This kid was an honor student and high school athelete, and overall a nice guy...until it somehow got out that he recieved a consensual BJ from a 15 year old. He was 17.
He got 10 YEARS IN PRISON FOR THIS. On top of this, when a judge threw out the ruling, the Georgia attorney general appealed it and threw his ass back in jail.
While I do believe that statutory rape is a crime, getting 10 years in jail for being 2 years apart for oral is utterly rediculous. Also, these things should be examined on a case-by-case basis, and I do think that the penalties for these acts are WAAAAAAY too harsh in our legal system. Hell, I even know someone who was set up by this law.
Bottom line is, thanks to bible belt values instilled in our government, a good kid who would probably otherwise have a productive life is rotting in jail. As Johnny Cochran would say, THAT DOES NOT. MAKE. SENSE.
