    Happy Birthday, Star Wars

30 years ago Star Wars changed the face of cinema. More than cinema, it's everywhere. Religion, politics, economics, the vernacular. You wouldn't have your Pirates or your Spideys today without it. You also wouldn't have The Matrix, Battlestar Galactica, Gundam or any decent sci-fi thing. It also, arguably, reduced film audiences into ****ing infants. So, **** you, Star Wars.

Otherwise, here's to you, Star Wars! Share your earliest Star Wars memory. Did you lose your virginity to a particular scene? Do you think Han Solo's the badass of the galaxy or is it Boba Fett? Darth Maul? Do you still think it's cool The Imperial March is played at basketball games? Did you wait on line for Phantom Menace like a schmuck too? Do you hate Star Wars? If so, why are you such a prick?

Recall your favorite moments of the series, your favorite movie, your favorite or least-favorite character/event/weapon/starfighter/piece of music/video game/comic, ****, anything Star Wars-related. This is the topic for it.

When I was a kid, I decided I should marry Han Solo. I informed my parents right away.

I also had this killer green lightsaber toy that was like a big plastic bat. It made noise when I swung it around. I miss that thing.

Darth Vader sits on things. He is the sex symbol of life.

If it wasn't for Star Wars, I wouldn't live next to a 30 screen megaplex! Thank you, Star Wars!

I had an X-Wing with Luke from the original sets of Star Wars toys...it shot down Wild Bill in his helicopter from GI Joe many a time. Godspeed, Luke.

I had seen The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi before I saw the original. In The Empire Strikes Back, it said that the Death Star had been destroyed, and the only Death Star I knew was the one in Return of the Jedi, and so I was somewhat perplexed as to why Darth Vader was still alive (I was 8-ish at the time).

Indeed, an importance piece of cinema, but I myself find Star Wars to be overrated.

              Happy Birthday, SW.

                      Re: Happy Birthday, Star Wars

I asked Ray Parks at a convention during a Q and A in front of an audience which movie he liked better, 2001: A Space Odyssey or Apocalypse Now. He said they are both different, so he couldn't compare them. I told him that was a good answer. Then I asked him what his favorite fruit was. I think he said banana.

Everyone was gushing over Star Wars and C3-PO during the audience Q and A with Anthony Daniels, so I asked him something that everyone probably WANTED to ask him, but didn't have the balls to. I said "Okay, Anakin is a slave boy on Tatooine, why in the world would he need to build a protocol droid?" Daniels walked away from me with the microphone that moments before had been thrust in my face saying, "How Dare You! How Dare You!" He said this 4 or five times, then turned to me when he was up at the front of the stage and said, "It was a way to write me into the script." Of course, I already knew that was the answer, but hearing it come from his mouth was gratifying.

As for memories, I saw Star Wars once at the theatre when it originally came out. We saw it at a drive in when I was 6 and my brother was 5. We went with my mom and her new husband. It was pouring rain, and my brother was crying throughout the entire movie because he thought it was going to rain so much that the van was going to wash away.

And yes, I did get into line about a month before Ep 1 came out to get tickets. I got there at about 4:30 in the morning, and got my tickets at about 11:30 in the afternoon. Ep 1=biggest disappointment EVER.

Oh, yeah, I collected the toys, but was never rich enough to afford all the vehicles and whatnot. THe biggest thing I had was a tauntaun. Then, after Return of the Jedi came out, I got almost the complete collection of the micro playsets. I had the entire Hoth, and 3/4 of the Bespin one. I just didn't have the Death Star one. Unfortunately, I played with those so much that all the die cast figures are all nicked up with paint no longer in many spots on the. Unfortunately, I say, because those playsets were a flop, and are worth some money now. I also have an R2-D2 toybox that, last time I checked, was worth over $200. Mine is in pristine condition. Not bad for a cardboard tube, some casters, and a plastic R2-D2 head my dad got at a Sears Surplus store for $25. If I think of anything more, I'll add it later.

Despite popular opinion, Republic Commando is my favorite Star Wars game.

Also, anybody know where I can find that online encyclopedia of Star Wars references?

Not sure about the references, but Knights of the Old Republic is my favorite Star Wars game. I also liked Shadows of the Empire despite its numerous flaws.

now, see, I met Anthony Daniels at Dragon Con when I was like 13 or 14. I really only seem to remember him being a creepy old man who liked playing with my best friend's hair.
also, we helped him set up his booth, and he still wanted $35 an autograph!
