Although... some games might be nice if they have the ending leave you with unanswered questions (and not in the Halo 2 sense)... that way, you could make up your own answers.
Oh, definately! It's kind of like a book I read a while ago--Julie of the Wolves. It's about an Eskimo girl struggling to find her identity as her world changes all around her. The ending left me wondering whatever happened to Miyax/Julie. I just assumed she adapted to a city life instead of going back to her Eskimo ways.

      On another note.

My favorite ending of all-time is in 'Aliens'.

Yes, that's right. DEAL WITH IT.

The cyborg guy barely survived after being splurged in half by the mama alien.

        THAT was priceless.

          Bishop rocks.

          And that scene ruled.

          I was like...

"ZOMG HES A CYBORG HOW CAN HE BE INFECTED BY AN ALIEN I THOUGHT THEY COULD ONLY AFFECT H--"

          *Bishop gets ripped in half*

          *majestic shot of Queen Alien*

          OH! ZOMG! FINAL BOSS TIME!!!

            I think there's a sequal to that... Julie's Wolf Pack? I don't know.

So that's why I'm not allowed to see that. I'm guessing I should wait a long time....
Still, I hope the word "survived" is true....

That reminds me of a trailer I had the misfortune to see, of a game called "Nano Breaker".

I like endings in which all the charcters run off chasing after someone at the end, presumably to have more crazy adventures. (i.e. Castle of Cagliostro, Sonic the Movie, Kingdom Hearts, Slayers Perfect, etc.)

I'm not sure if I'm serious about this or not.

After letting your crazy kids go wild for a while, I'd figure I'd finally offer my own two-cents. I tend to prefer bittersweet endings. I hate sacchrine endings, if only because they ring so false, for the most part. I do admit that depending on the work, you can have a sacchrine ending (I mean, Disney movies obviously need them and all that), but most works tend to have some level of conflict indicating that if everything turns out happily ever after, my BS detector goes off.

A tricky category is endings that are indefinite. They can **** me off. There's a few endings I can think of that are thematically final but indefinite in execution. The most grievous offender to me was the Dark Tower series. One example that worked was Angel's finale (although it could be argued that it did have a sense of finality).

I hate most horror movie endings. Usually the people get away from the creature or kill it or whatever. Then right at the end they show another creature, or serial killer or whatever in the last 5 seconds just so they can explain away a sequel that never gets made.

I can't think of a Batman ending that's not indefinite. But they're also often tragic and/or bittersweet. Batman suceeds with a cost then swoops off a building to fight another day.

just wanna throw that out there X3

I'm pleased that you brought those up because they're two examples I would have used if I were to defend such endings. Now I hated both of them. And yes, Stephen King is a bastard. But those really are the only ways to end each vehicle.

Angel's finale was overblown. A dragon? Seriously? But I guess considering it was a rush job it was ok. The intent was clear, Angel's fight for redemption would never be over. Blah blah blah.

The Dark Tower ending was simply infuriatingly perfect.
The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

More like infuriatingly stupid. The ending made me want to throw the book against the wall and question why I ever bothered reading the series in the first place. Although that may have had help from the COMPLETELY off the rails final book.

I had the exact same reaction. But how else could you end such a thing?

Oh yeah, I remember hearing about it but didn't get a chance to read it. It was written because the author got fed up with people hounding her with questions about what happened to the main character. There was also another book after that one, I believe, but I could be mistaken.

I like those endings, too, especially when they run off into the beautiful sunset.

I often like indefinite endings. Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels had a good one.

But only when they're not, like, stupid.
