    Re: I saw 300 today.

I saw it tonight. I enjoyed it immensely. I don't mind the lack of a story because I felt there wasn't any need for a story to be told. The film seemed more about the power of legend surrounding Thermopylae, what with all the battle's wild exaggerations and aggrandizements. So it was good fun to simply wallow in ancient Spartan propaganda and cheer them on.

The only thing that irked me was the inclusion of a couple random troll-like creatures that seemed to serve no purpose - the one who fought and didn't do much except look intimidating and shortly thereafter lose its head, and then the other random one as Xerxes' executioner. Just those moments managed to displace me because I thought I was suddenly thrown into Lord of the Rings all over again, or a movie version of Age of Mythology.

But it was good fun. Actually better than I was expecting.

Sejon, read Frank Miller's graphic novel that the movie was based off of.

I didn't like the graphic novel.

I AM EXCITED TO SEE THIS WHEN I GET THE CHANCE.

I liked it... certainly not loved, however. There was no story to speak of, and very little emotion. The action was great, and it was all very well done. It was much in the spirit of Sin City (which I DID love), with everything being CGI saturated to look like a cartoon, including the people. However, I thought that even though EVERYTHING was overdone (intentionally so), that it worked, and illustrated a comic book type feel, everything from the fantastic creatures and effects to the painted-on abs. Overall I liked it, I just feel that maybe it was deserving of it's RT score.

I am coming for all of you!

                  Re: I saw 300 today.

We figured that if we went two hours early on opening night we wouldn't have any trouble getting tickets.

But we were WRONG, weren't we!?

                    Re: I saw 300 today.

The entire story was friggen Xerxes Trying to get Sparta to "submit" to Persia
How much more story do you want?

All he wants is people to kneel before him....hmmm yeah kneel huh? You dont fool me Xerxes..

The whole bit about Queen Gorgo Trying to get support for her husband was added to the movie by the director
(same guy who did that vomit-enducing remake of Dawn of the dead)
In the graphic novel the queen was just a minor character.

                    *Spoilers*

What the hell was up with the traitor carrying around a sachel of Xerxes coins from his dirty deeds...Yeah Like THAT sounds like a good idea.

HAY GUYS I GOTS XERXES BUCKS!

You'll have to be seven feet tall and black and ambiguously gay.
