    Re: Anime/manga

Yes I did, Magus. I must say... I LOVED IT! Boy, Crunk wasn't over reacting about Asuka kicking some major ass in the first half. She was tearing SEELE's forces to bits. And there were some parts that kinda made me sad. You know which parts.

The second half of it was a whole other ball game. I found it funny that when Shinji finally goes out to fight that he is immediately restrained. They went into the psychological mumbo jumbo, which I rather enjoyed. Unlike in the series, there is finally some sort of resolution.

There was only one thing I didn't quite get at the end.
    *** SPOILERS ***
Shinji is lying on the beach next to a girl which looks like Asuka, but her eyes were brown and Asuka's are blue. So I was like, who the **** is this woman? I guess that is what they were aiming for.
    *** END SPOILERS ***

      Yes. Welcome to the mind****.

The movie is pretty clear cut up until the very, very end.

All I can offer is, make of it what you will.

If you think you can handle or get past loads of cute try watching Gakuen Alice.

I should really find and read the manga to it, it sounds lot more interesting.

              Re: Anime/manga

I managed to catch an episode of Death Note last night. It was one where Light used the Death Note to cause a man to hijack a bus in order to find the name of the FBI agent following him.

I originally tried reading the manga a year or so ago but I was put off because when Light and L first squared off they kept telling each other what they were doing. It was pointless exposition and served no purpose except to tell the reader what was going on. This is annoying for several reasons. First, no character would act in this way. It completely breaks the suspension of disbelief. Second, it's very patronizing to the reader. Does the author honestly feel like the story would be completely incomprehensible if the characters weren’t constantly narrating what they were doing?

I voiced these opinions to Magus but he assured me the series got better over time. Yet on this episode of the anime it was even worse. The characters didn't even bother explaining to each other. They just constantly narrated to themselves. It was incredibly frustrating. Take, for example, when the hijacker touches a page of the Death Note and sees Ryuk. Terrified by the floating goth clown he fires at him but the bullets pass through Ryuk and hit various parts of the bus. This is shown. We see this happen. Then immediately afterwards Ryuk tells himself that Shinigami can't be hurt by bullets. NO ****! You just showed me, Death Note, why do you have to explain it to me now? It's so frustrating. And this **** happened throughout the entire episode. Each character was a chatterbox of self narration just so every action was explained to the viewer. What's worse is that this isn't unique to Death Note. Constant narration has become a staple of the entire medium. How did it get like this? 10 years ago Anime, with the exception of dreck like Dragon Ball Z, didn't feel the need to constantly explain what was happening. I remember being perplexed by shows like Lain and delighted in figuring out was happening. If Lain was made today the show would constantly explain to you what was going on. "I'm building a computer," Lain would say as she turned the screws. And it would take twice as many episodes to tell the same story. All this explanation takes time. It slows the episodes down and turns them into tedious affairs. Think how much time is wasted by characters explaining what just happened. Do we really need to pause the story so Ryuk can tell us he can't be shot after we have just seen bullets pass through his body. Not only would the stories be more compact but the extra time would allow for better storytelling.

Seriously, this constant explaining would not be accepted in any other medium. Books that take this same approach to narration are considered the worst kind of amateur schlock writing. Why do we accept it in Anime? Isn't the first thing you’re taught when writing is show, not tell? It seems to me that the majority of anime needs to go back to Creative Writing 101 and learn this rule again.

It doesn't feel like that big a problem in the manga, at least not to me. And even that, at least an explanation can be condensed to a few panels - time isn't wasted so much. I'm an idiot, so I sometimes feel the explanation is warranted, but yeah, that case in the example is retarded.

Hay gaiz, I found something. It may look like your oridnary Evangelion AMV, but it features this wild Soul Refrain instrumental that I ain't never heard before.

I just got finished reading a 3 volume manga by Hiyora Oku, the same man who makes the manga "Gantz."

It's called "Me~teru no Kimochi" or "Love Laughs at Locksmiths."

                  More information here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Me~teru_no_Kimochi

It started off slow at first, but as the chapters progress, I really started feeling connected to the story. The ending wasn't what I was expecting, but still, it was a fulfilling read while I await more chapters of Gantz, Golden Boy, and Elfen Lied (I've been collecting translated chapters of the latter since April 2005!)

Wow, a horrible, antisocial loser rewarded for his behavior by being taken care of by a beautiful young woman? I don't see how this could've possibly garnered fans in the otaku community. :V

I'd like to read Berserk. But it's been going on for years and still isn't done and is $14 a pop.

                        Here's my ongoing list:

                        Neon Genesis Evangelion
                        Fullmetal Alchemist
                        Monster

I have a huge list, but I will list some of what I read.

The Kindaichi Case Files (my favorite, gotta love murder mysteries)

Fairy Tales (a lot better than the other artist previous works, but still predictable)

Reiko The Zombieshop (gore, but somehow addicting)

Catagory Freaks / Remote (wish they would release the rest)

Gunsmith Cats (I wish I had her car)

                          Negima (from my favorite artist)

Welcome to the N.H.K. (messed up, but I can't stop reading)

There is more, but that is what I currently want to complete in my collection.

I've watched all of the anime episodes on Naruto(and Shippuden), Bleach, Dragon Ball Z, Claymore, Full Metal Alchemist, Tales of Symphonia(only like 7 episodes in the series) and Death Note. I think that's all...

I have started watching Hunter X Hunter, One Piece, Gundam, Full Metal Panic, Inuyasha, Gungrave, Cowboy Bebop, Eyeshield 21, Dragonaut, Avatar, and Ghost Hount. I'm sure there's more I can't remember... I started watching these but I didn't like them much... I might go back and watch some later.

I've been watching Ghost Hound lately, I'm around 10 episodes in...

I have read all the Naruto Manga, but that's all for Manga.

My top favourites probably go in this order...

                                1. Bleach
                                2. Naruto
                                3. Full Metal Alchemist and Death Note...

I might like FMA and Death Note better if the series was longer...

Edit: All the anime I watch I try to watch in Japanese with Subtitles. I personally think the voices sound better(usually).
