Well I decided to get back into drawing, it's been about 3 years since I've done any, and need another hobby that involves something other then a computer:lol

So I made this topic so I can upload my pics, the main kind of pictures I draw are game characters/anime/autos

If anyone has any pics they like post a link to it and Ill draw it as soon as I get a decent printer/scanner:lol which hopefully will be soon

Heres a very old pic, it got crumpled up at one point so it looks kind of bad, but this is all I have left of my past artistic ability.

Not that its much to look at:lol hopefully this time I'll start utilizing color in my art, something I never did in the past.

I like this one, but is it of official art or something origional? I'm not accusing anything, it just looks really familiar.

JPS

no it's not original, all of my art is drawn from other pictures(not traced though), some of the stuff I do is original, but I don't have any of those.

I dont know if thats considered art or not then:lol And I can't remember where those characters came from, if so I would have put it below the picture:)

It's from another drawing, but if you can render this well from a picture, then you should have little trouble rendering from life. I would heartily recommend doing that! This drawing shows that you can do it...especially the girl's hand, which is rendered very well. Ultimately the MOST important thing is that you keep drawing!

JPS, I like this thread. I look forward to seeing your other work. It would be cool to see your art posted by the picture you drew from, too.

Sorry and no offense JPS but that picture is very special to me and I'd hate to see anyone mess with it. Again I don't mean any offense and I hope you understand why I took down the picture. I like to see what you can draw though.

Well I haven't drawn in over 3 years and I've never taken any classes, not saying your brother has, everything I've learned is self-taught, but honestly, I don't think I can top that at the present moment, though I do enjoy a challenge:lol

If you have a bigger picture(which I'm sure you can produce since you've had to scan it) of that I'll see what I can do with it

My older brother is self-taught too. He drew the picture in pencile first then he traced every thing in pen. He then shaded everything in with a pencile and something that looks like a pencile only it's paper. Then he scaned it in and touched it up useing Adoby CS2. Then he sent it to my PSP. I used Imageshack to resized it. I tried to make it bigger but it wont display. Oh and JPS, what I ment was can you make a original picture that's better then this? By the way he made it long before he had a PC.

I dont think honestly I can make an original like that(I completely suck at drawing anything similar to humans except anime and cartoons), but tell your brother that is an awesome drawing, hopefully I can get to that level eventually, but I dont think anytime soon since I tried last night and I am extremely rusty now:lol

It's not nice to try to out-do others "BUT can you top this!?!" Especially when it's not your own artwork Raven.

CAN YOUR BROTHER TOP THIS?!

Here's my first drawing in 3 years, and the first time I ever used color/markers, also the first time I've ever drawn a picture straight from a computer screen.

Here's the original
http://www.yourfavoritewebsites.com/Dragonball-Z_Folder/DragonballZ015.jpg

And here's my version
http://img294.imageshack.us/img294/9278/vegeta1212nn9.jpg

Cut me some slack since it's my first pic in 3 years:lol I know the lines aren't the same distance apart from the original picture, plus its not like I had the picture right beside me either...I also noticed the ears are kinda off, but so are the ones on the original pic

It'll look a lot better when I can get it scanned, this is a digital pic, doesnt really justify it
Took me about an hour

Oh yeah any anime anyone want me to draw post the link to, I can draw them now that I know I can draw successfully from a monitor(wasn't able to before for some reason)

Hey, your work is lookin' pretty cool. I wish I could draw like that :)

You should also consider manga style artwork. That's where my inspiration lies.

The only thing I can say is that I looked at the original and I looked at your rendition side by side, and despite the areas where they aren't exactly the same, I think you definitely were faithful in your reproduction. Good job.

Hey, your work is lookin' pretty cool. I wish I could draw like that :)

You should also consider manga style artwork. That's where my inspiration lies.

Despite what nearly everyone thinks, its a lot easier to draw something original, because with a reproduction you can put both side by side, and if you dont know how to draw, theyll know, thats why I post my source pictures, because I'm nearly confident enough to know that my depiction doesnt have that many errors. With an original drawing, if you mess up, no one notices, because they dont know what it is suppose to look like.

But its fairly easy to draw reproductions if you know how to do it, all you do is start with one line, usually near the middle, and just branch off of that line, and use other lines as measurements for the next and so on and so on, on each line I usually use 4 other lines for measurement and create "coordinates" of where the next line should go...fairly simple once you start, starting any picture is the hardest part.

As for vegeta I started between the eyes, drew one eye and then imagined a horizonal line across the paper and put small dots where the other side should be, then just connect the dots, then branched off from there, although I got the picture a bit vertically incorrect, I think I did an alright job for the first in 3 years

EDIT TO ADD:Post a link to a manga pic you like Goemon and Ill draw it after Sesshoumaru

Best thing I can reccommend. You are very good at referencing pictures, and you can tell they are referenced rather then traced, and although it is good for learning, you arn't going to be able to grow on your own unless you start to draw for yourself. I wish I was half as good at referencing, but somehow it takes the pride out of it for me personally.

I think you have alot of potiential, you just need to explore for yourself. Just like they say, draw from life or you'll be stuck drawing naked anime babes for the rest of your life..:( Like me. :P

Keep it up though, you are doing well.

I see no problem with referring to outside material time to time. Like an artist knows how to represent everything ever. :|

I see no problem with fan art either. Stuff looks good but, SURE, an original art thread would be cool too.

I've done my fair share of Kenshin fan art. {:3

Thanks for the strong reinforcement Libra and everyone else:) I like to know that my work isn't all that bad.

Perhaps I'll draw something original tomorrow so you all can see where I stand in that area:lol

JPS

Well tomorrow ended up being 3 months later...lol but I have something original...

I drew it at work in the middle if my 3-4 second breaks, so it doesnt look very good, Ill be going back and re-doing it eventually.

If anyone doesnt know what it is, that big ball of blue stuff is hair, the rest is basic knowledge of human anatomy:lol

However Im intrigued by your new sig misty, its in my art queue:lol

On the contrary, JPS....it's wonderful. Nicely done :)

You should post more of your sketches on Imaginari if you haven't done so already.

Oh, and I'm glad you like my new sig! I got it off Photobucket :)

If an admin sees this they can move it there for me cant they?

Id rather have it there, I didnt really think about it when I first made the topic

and yeah Ill be making alot more sketches from now on...kinda lazy at work...lol

I think its sucky, my first try at a human figure...though theres not much of one...lol

While it isn't the greatest thing, I like it. It has a simple charm. :)

Don't discourage yourself, the human figure is a tricky thing to captor. Practice enough and you will be amazed what one can do.

While it isn't the greatest thing, I like it. It has a simple charm. :)

Basically I got enough time to sit down to draw one, maybe two lines, then had to get up and work for another 2-3 minutes lifting 40lb bundles of paper, so i was kinda shaky, but I tried to make it look right but failed miserably...lol

Ill draw Mistys pic tomorrow and Ill spend some time on it so its perfect, Im really good at anime humans for some reason, but not real people:lol

You just need to add the stripes. Then you're all set.

You're very good at this kind of artwork. On top of that, you also make games! I can see you doing something for RPG Maker XP.

Perhaps Ill start drawing animation sequences and comics...lol
