I think april fool's day pranks are best when done on a day that is not april 1st. like... june 18th. or something. because then it comes way out of left field and people are more inclinded to believe it.
but on topic, my favorite Transformer site, tfw2005.com, underwent a complete conversion to a carebear and my little pony fansite, replacing every single page, file, forum. the complete works, nothing escaped unchanged. if I was gonna do an april fool's day prank, I'd have to go all out like they did. nothing about it is sloppy, it looks real.

Best I can think of are fake articles that occasionally popped up, like when RPGamer showed off (with screens) Final Fantasy VII on Game Boy Advance, and posted news of Chrono Break (with screens). The latter was kinda obvious if you looked at the screens, as one of them they pasted some goblin heads on FFXI's Tonberries.
Actually, they've got four articles up right now. Gee, I wonder which ones are pranks.

I'm putting one of my friend's horrible high school yearbook photo on his facebook account.The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

The World of Warcraft forums have been altered so that whenever you enter a topic, any topic at all, you hear the sound of an angry murloc. All of the avatar pictures have been changed to random shots of murlocs.
