    The LIST TOPIC

OK, just because I'm bored because everyone else gets to go back to college already (I still have a job with quite a few hours but it's not enough), I have organized my thoughts and have done what few can: I HAVE FIGURED OUT MY FAVORITE THINGS AND HAVE RANKED THEM ACCORDING TO MY LIKE FOR THEM. I will post more of these over time, but first I am going to start by posting:

    My Top 50 Songs

    14) Styx "Come Sail Away"
    13) Don McLean "American Pie"
    12) Focus "Hocus Pocus"
    11) Chicago "Saturday In The Park"

    3) The Eagles "Hotel California"
    2) Pink Floyd "Sheep"
    1) Blue Oyster Cult "(Don't Fear) The Reaper"

Feel free to question any song on the list. If you feel any of them have no business being on anyone's top songs list, let me know. Some of the songs have a special meaning behind them that I would be glad to share. Each one has a reason for being on the list regardless, and I can back up their inclusion if need be.

I glad that "Hotel California" is in the top five.

Why is "You're My Best Friend" on there?

Why is "Don't Fear the Reaper" number one? It's a good song an all, but number one?

Hey, that's FAR from fair, as you already know why it's on there.

It's the only song that just sounds like it has that "perfect" blend to me: good vocals, good instrumental work, and is still a great song despite obviously not trying to hit it out of the park like a "Stairway To Heaven". Plus, I like that wicked part towards the end that doesn't sound like the rest of the song: I like songs that are not afraid to go off on a tangent and then return later on. Plus...it has "la la la's". I love those.

That's a pretty cool list but you just basically like classic rock there are good bands these days too

I keep hearing about these good bands nowadays, but I'm too poor to buy their albums and since they apparently can't get airplay I have never heard them. I suppose I could pirate their music but that would be too evilly ironic since they are obviously only scraping by as it is.

I remember "na na na's" not "la la la's" in that song.

Also there is too much Boston on the list.

                18) Blue Oyster Cult "Godzilla"

                Joy!

                22) Golden Earring "Twilight Zone"

Calling in a substitution here, "Radar Love" for "Twilight Zone" in the 46th minute.

Also, "Bark at the Moon" for "Perry Mason".

I'm impressed you can make any sort of order. Whenever I try to think of my favorite songs only terrible ones spring to mind.

Edit: No, wait! No "Whiskey in a Jar" by Thin Lizzy? Fwah?!

They are definitely "la la la's", if not "la la lum's".

And another reason why I like this song so much is that it reminds me of the poem "Death Be Not Proud" by John Donne which is also one of my favorite poems.

Hey, if it was extended to one hundred songs I could add two or three more Boston songs to the list.

That would be a pretty good substituation. I just prefer "Twilight Zone" over "Radar Love" because it is harder and I like the lyrics better. Plus, I'm a rather large fan of the "Twilight Zone" television series.

"Bark at the Moon" is a great song, but Perry Mason does more for me.

If I have ever heard that song then I do not recall it.

                    Umm...I've heard the Metallica version.

Also, if you like la,la,las but done by a female vocalist, I would recommend listening to some Stereolab. They've got la,la,las, ba,ba,bas, and dum,de,dum, des down in spades....

                      Innuendo should be on there.

Hey, "Innuendo" by Queen is a mighty fine song, but this is my list, and there is nothing stopping you from making your own list of top songs.

well like your taste in music, and one of my top one songs is in your top 10, so i can't complain about your list.

except to maybe diversify your music portfolio. unless you've heard the rest, and this is still all you like. in which case, more power to you.

I have heard music from many genres: jazz, blues, rap, country, rock, and funk. "Classic" rock is the one that resonates closest with me: it just seems the most creative while still being highly enjoyable to listen to. I just don't see any other genre of music ever being more "listenable" to my ears.

Most modern music that I have heard is either "trying too hard" or is just trying to capitalize off of grunge or teenage misery.
