    Best Endings

    Spoilers, of course.

    Silent Hill 2

Of all the games I've played, the most emotionally charged and satisfying ending that I ever got was for Silent Hill 2. The Leave ending.

I don't really know why, as most people say that it's the "happy" ending. But it was the first ending that I got and thought it was terribly sad. It just struck me. I was still in awe over the revelation that James was the one who murdered Mary, and hearing her words of compassion and forgiveness while watching James leave town with Lauren to start a new life...

Lest I forget to mention that I played the last half of the game in one sitting (from the hospital on) so I was on the edge of my seat most of the time.

The In Water ending is actually "better", but it just didn't have the impact on me like this one did.

    Lufia 2:

Sad. Nuff said. (I just about cried)

If you don't know about Lufia 2's ending then just ask me.

HA! And I'm not giving it back!

I've heard Final Fantasy VIII had a good ending, but I wouldn't know.

I actually don't complete most of the games I own (I've never finished an RPG, they're too long to hold my interest), so the only endings that I actually remember are the ending to Megaman 8 and the ending to Graffiti Kingdom, neither of which had a very good ending. I really need to complete some more video games.

I dunno. I'm still on the fence. The IDEA is brilliant...

Just because I knew I wouldn't have to see anymore of that god awful animated running.

From my experience, most games don't seem to know how to end. But I guess I was quite pleased with all of the MGS.

                        Re: Best Endings

MGS1's ending was overrated (caribou...). MGS2's ending was confusing, but cool. MGS3's ending gave me chills, when you realize just exactly what made Big Boss the man he became. Powerful stuff.

The end of Soul Calibur 2 sent shivers up my spine, as you realized you were playing out history, making certain things become true within the storyline (only those who have played it understand). The end of Legay of Kain: Defiance was such a shocker to me that it is definitely up there with my best endings.

And for an old school reference, the ending of Ninja Gaiden for NES was the first to really effect me...to find out that your father is still alive, and then you are forced to fight and kill him. Great stuff.

EDIT: OOPS! I meant Ninja Gaiden for NES, not Legacy of Kain.

Yes, Defiance would be up there with my favorite endings; even with the cheeseball final line.

Suikoden II "normal ending". Cripes, it's hard to describe the endings to that game without getting into spoilers, especially with the hidden "bad" ending.

                              SPOILERS!

Basically the ending where you go meet Jowy and face him in the duel but don't attack, but he still dies because the Rune of Beginning must be merged onto one person. Nanami's dead, Jowy's dead. It's a great bittersweet ending.
