    The Lost RPG Ideas

It's impossible for this NOT to have happened to you: You try to make an RPG, but eventually you just get bored with it and give up. (Happened to me 3 times.)

So, what were you thinking at the time, and why'd you give up? I remember one of mine...

One was set in a mediveal/fantasy age where technology and gunpowder was being used, and the more modern day humans have begun to slaughter off any mythical being or nomadic people. It was for RPGM2, but I eventually gave up on it since I couldn't figure out a way to turn an item into a vehicle. I know better now. It wouldn't've worked anyway... I only had 1 weapon for the main character.

    Re: The Lost RPG Ideas

Oh wow, I've got so many scrapped ideas, I can't remember them all. Let's see what I can remember.

Elements of Darkness - My second RPG idea, which I was going to use as a practice game before moving on to Slayers' Reign (my first RPG idea, which I'll never give up on). Essentially, a couple of brothers are called upon to help figure out what's going on with the elemental beings. I had the entire quest figured out, though it wasn't well thought-out, and I didn't put enough effort into it anyway. I was able to release a demo.

There was a game with a focus on getting through obstacle-filled mazes. I got five mazes in.

Another one that started midway through the quest as a girl cries over her boyfriend, whom was betrayed and is "reincarnated" as a black panther in order to save the world. I didn't get past the opening cutscene.

And that's all I can think of at the moment. I'll probably think of more later.

        Re: The Lost RPG Ideas

Most of the ideas I've scrapped were RPGM2 projects. Some just didn't look the way I wanted them, others I got frustrated with because of a lack of programming knowledge.

        Just a few:
Omegablade Saga 2: Music of the Spheres (RPGM2): Knowing what I know now, plus with contemplations of a remake of the original on RPGM3, I'm probably going to pick this one back up.

Underdark (RPGM3): This was my first effort with RPGM3. It was supposed to be a D&D-style dungeon crawler with roleplaying and stealth aspects. It's really more on hold than dropped entirely.

Corporate Ops: Executive Execution (RPGM2): I really should pick this one up again. It was a futuristic cyberpunk game mixing stealth, roleplaying, and even a very detailed gun system and a helicopter boss. Unfortunately I suffered from writer's block when it came to the plot.

The Other Side (RPGM2): Another victim of writer's block. This haunted house game needed a plot, and a decent architect wouldn't have hurt things.

Read a freaking book to get some ideas and get working on that! Sounds awesome!

yeah tjoris, that does sound cool. I'd love to see a RM2 game in a modern setting.

              Re: The Lost RPG Ideas

Funny thing is almost every project I worked on was either finished or put on hold. Some unfortunately, were lost forever when some bastard stole a **** load of my games and memory cards. So guess I will mention one of them.

Battle of Soul- A traditional RPG to say the least. Though, the villians had no interest in taking over the world or destroying it. One of the main villians was a clone named Gala who wished to increase his life span by absorbing Titan Omega. The clones sadly only have a life span of only 28 years. The other villian, Marc, created clones to populate the world he was trying to create from scratch. His dream was realized by sacrificing the near by planet Nu. It wasn't the greatest game in the world, but it was my first RPG I ever made with RPGM. I really enjoyed it so I was sad to see it be gone.

That story reminds me much of Final Fantasy 9. Still an interesting idea.

How about somebody makes a game like Rogue Agent, where you control the villan? That hasn't been done yet in RPGM.

Ah, that reminds me of another scrapped idea. I was thinking about making a game at a couple points where you play as a villain and the goal is to set up a chain reaction of chaotic events (such as a guy getting ran over by a horse when finding a coin on the ground that you placed).

I didn't even get started, really.

                          Re: The Lost RPG Ideas

Oh, I came up with several ideas when I was a kid. Perhaps they weren't necessarily RPG ideas, but mostly just video game ideas. Whenever inspiration would hit, I'd sit by a near by table, grab a piece of paper, and then I'd start drawing the box cover for the game. However, with most of my ideas, I'd never get past the concept of the game and thus my ideas were thrown into the garbage bin.

From about 20+ game ideas, I narrowed my ideas to about four (I won't tell anyone here about them in this post, but if anyone is curious, I made a game called "Patrick's Journey" and the four games' titles are mentioned in that game). Two of the four games, which would include Monkey Brothers and a possible side-scroller game with a snot-nose albino, I would describe as "yeah, it might be great, but if it were a real game, it wouldn't be anything ground-breaking compared to my other two ideas." Another idea I have is a 'monster game' per se. I just remember being obsessed with monster shows like Digimon and Pokemon and so I created a game based off those shows and games. Although it started as a rip-off, I have various ideas for this game that'd make it pretty unique. Last off, out of the four games, there's one that I just have to create or else my life wouldn't be complete. This is the one I have most difficult with and that's mostly because I'm trying to make this perfect (not for everyone, just for me). Even if I never break into the video game industry, I would still like to make these games, and as long as they turn out just the way I want them to, I'll be happy.

Right now, with my current game, Monkey Brothers, I've been starting to lose interest in finishing the project mostly for these reasons: getting sick of RPG Maker, I've been working on this game for too long, and I want to work on something that I wanted to get my hands on for awhile. I'm not sure if this will be a lost idea, but there is a high chance that this game will never be completed with RPG Maker 1. After this game, I may just settle aside to learn the Game Maker language, learn how to make pixelated graphics, and write down ideas for the games I would like to create someday on paper, but will only work on small games for the moment. If I ever get the chance, I might just make a computer version of Monkey Brothers, but that would come later down the road.

No! Not GameMaker! It will steal your soul! Or not, but I've never liked it very much. Mainly because Drag and Drop was useless and it didn't have enough premade content.
