God forbid you should form an opinion for yourself.
Aside from some of the story woes that have haunted recent FFs, I enjoyed the change in gameplay and I thought the characterization was done better in this than it was in X. There's some pretty tired pre-teen humor, but it wasn't enough to put me off the game. It had its charms.
I'd recommend renting it at least. There's probably a ton of used copies floating around if you decide you like it.
So you're a fish out of water...

What else can you do?
Yeah, you can find it for $12 at used stores sometimes.
I don't own it, nor did I pay to play it, but I definitely enjoyed it. It was too much grrl power for my liking, and Yuna acted like a Rikku clone for way too long, but the battle system was solid and engaging, and definitely fun.
The sidequests and minigames were also a blast. Except for the Thunder Plains. I will forever hate the Thunder Plains. But the lightning towers were cool and challenging.

I just started playing FFX again (I'd gotten halfway through it before but put it aside for so long I forgot everything). I love the game. I still don't really understand why so many people don't. But I guess that could be because I haven't gotten farther than halfway yet.
Well, the only Final Fantasys I've played are 7 which I loved to pieces and played through a couple times, 6 which I never finished b/c I just didn't have the time to invest but was great, 9 which I didn't like much and couldn't finish because disc 4 freezes at the first FMV, and now 10. So maybe my limited FF experience contributes to my not disliking FFX.
P.S. Most likely my next FF game will be 3 or CC on DS. CC is multiplayer right and the DS version should be wifi multi?
Please don't mention this game... it brings up the painful memory of my friend betting me $10 I couldn't beat the game 100% on the first run-through without a strategy guide.
I did it and the cheap booze I bought didn't get me wasted enough to forget the game.
With that said, Final Fantasy X had the makings of a great game as the storyline was the closest any Final Fantasy had come to VI (my favorite) in terms of theme. X was an epic adventure in the style of classic Greek Mythology or Lord of the Rings. The linear path of the world created this feeling of adventure and wanderlust that all people must fulfill or else they're doomed to a life of being confined to a simple village or city where everyone fears for their lives over a malignant beast. The whole ADVENTURE aspect of FFX kept me interested... but the characters SUCKED HARD.
FFX-2 made some cool gameplay additions but none of it was implemented well at all. It got rid of the stupid ATB (because I hate waiting for my turns when using a speed statistic like in Dragon Quest is faster and makes more sense). The game itself was a lot faster and required quick thinking while in the heat of battle.
FFIV is only good if it's the first RPG you played. I got it on the Chronicles set and I quit about halfway through. Boooooooooooooooooring. Say what you want about FFX, but the gameplay was tight as a drum.
IV wasn't the first I've ever played. In fact I really didn't get to play though it entirly until after I played VI. Still fun though, and a blast on GBA. I can't wait for V and VI advanced. Maybe I'll actualy beat V this time.

That explains everything. (It was my third RPG. First being Super Mario RPG, second being the first ten minutes of FF7.) Nostalgia could very well be the only reason I still enjoy the game so much. Although I do like the story that's told, as well as some of the music (notably the boss themes, the music from the "Lunar Path" and normal caves, and my favorite overworld music). Wound up being a pretty frequent rental in the SNES days. FF6, on the other hand, I genuinly like for what it is: a brilliant masterpiece that may never be matched.
The other FFs: I like FF1 for it's super old-schoolness, I don't like FF2, I like FF7 for it's battle system, I want to like FF8 but haven't been able to do another playthrough, I enjoy FF9 for its anthropomorphic characters and hearkening to previous FFs, I enjoy FFX for its story and Kimahri and Auron. Never played X-2, as I'm a little afraid of it.
I dread FF6 Advance. FF1&2 Advance had their gameplay pretty much murdered through dumbing down the difficulty. FF4 Advance, it's been a while since I've played the Chronicles version, but it seemed like the randomness of enemies was out of whack and some enemies and a lot of bosses were dumbed down (I'm pretty sure, for example, that Scarmiglione's Curse actually worked in Chronicles), though part of it is that I was a lot less hesitant to nuke enemies with spells, and I successfully found all the treasures in the final dungeon for the first time (as far as I know, Pink Tail aside). The backdrop of the final battle seemed less spectacular and seemed to suffer from slowdown any time I was scrolling through any menus, and the ending was very much out of sync and lacked the special text scrolling effect previous versions had. As such, I'm afraid that FF6 might be dumbed down as well as have lower-quality music like the PS1 version. But hey, if they can give us the Japanese Naughty sprite and give us a new (read: better) translation, I might not wind up hating it so much.
Oh, FF5 Advance, I won't be complaining much as I no longer have Anthology, and I never finished it in the first place (I got as far as some pyramid in the third world). Stupid load times.
...I hope at least one of the next GBA FF games uses the old blur effect for battle transitions.

sorry but, you are totally off your god damn rocker. Artisticly that game set the bar high for all games to come after. If you dont like the STYLE of the game then so be it, but make sure you state that. the animations in game and FMV are also steller.
but as for everyone else i agree with what ya are saying.
