    Tales of Phantasia GBA

Hey guys -- I've been away for a while, and now I've returned.....to start a thread.

I recently bought Tales of Phantasia for the GBA, and so far I think it's pretty good. The irony of this is that not only is it the first Tales game of its kind to ever be made, it is also the first Tales game I've ever owned. I never got around to getting Tales of Destiny, Symphonia or the recently released Legendia. (I might, though.)

So, what are your thoughts on this?

I think I remember Symphonia being good...but I'm not sure.

First off, welcome back, Misty! You were missed.

Second, I'm thinking of getting Tales of Phantasia. I need a good RPG to play on my DS and aside from M&L: Partners in Time there doesn't seem to be a good one actually made for DS yet. But ToP sounds good, has some mixed reviews though. The main criticism seems to be that the controls are slow for a real time battle system.
I want that Mulan McNugget sauce, Morty!

It would a good game for a long trip. It is an old game, but still fun.

Heya, PandaMoe! Good to be back, buddy. Forgive my absence!

I agree, the game is good for a long trip because the battle system keeps you busy. It reminds me a little like Star Ocean. I'm surprised that the game has digitized voices, even though they're a little silly. At any rate, don't take my word for it -- some of you guys like the Tales series, so I recommend getting it because it was way ahead of its time.

I fully intend to pick this one up. I always enjoy a classic-style handheld RPG.

I have a thing for games that don't try to tell a story and focus on the game aspect, like DWVIII, the Mario & Luigi series and Pokemon.

Is the enemy encounter rate still on the PUNISHINGLY ANNOYING side?

I heard they removed the vocals from the opening song (which were included in the SNES version!)

I may just pick it up anyways. Arche is love~

                  So, uh, yeah.
THIS SONG IS NOISE AND STOP!!

                  NOOOOISE!! *drums*

                  STOP!!

                  F@#$ OFF!!!

I know what you mean. Sometimes I'm a lot more comfortable with games that won't bore me to death with a overly drawn-out story. I guess that's why Tales of Phantasia appeals to me so much.

I got my copy for $34 at Gamestop. Fortunately, I had trade-ins!

                    Oh yes.

Even worse is the fact that half the time I find myself walking in circles trying to figure out what to do next. Not fun.

Yeah. The vocals are gone. All the rest of the terrible vocal audio is still present though.

It is surprising how they can fit that game on such a small cartidage.

I've loved every Tales game I've played. Tales of Destiny, Tales of Symphonia are the two I've played all the way through. I played the ROM for ToP but the file was corrupt, so you can't go any farther than the Library and it freezes. Oh well, it's a ROM. *slaps hand* bad Koji. Anyway, I want to get ToP so I can finish the game ^_^

As much as I loved it, it was time to change it.

I've played Tales of Destiny all the way though, and it holds a special place in my heart because it's also my first RPG for the PS1. I wasn't too fond of the PS1 Tales of Destiny 2 (I forget what it was called before) but it really didn't have a very great cast of characters and felt like it had been raped by the US Censor board. I've seen Tales of Symphonia (the one for the Gamecube) played, but I haven't really played it myself. I tend to like the Ninja Girl and the Letch, but other then that, it really didn't appeal to me, and the voices kinda sucked.

I dunno, I'd defiantely pick up Phantasia if I had the chance, simply because it was the first one, but other then that, I'll stick with my Tales of Destiny. *snuggles it*
