Check the "Official Username Page" at the top of this video games section. It's mostly up-to-date on who's playing FFXI.
I have an account. I haven't used it in a while, though.
"What if like...there was an exact copy of you somewhere, except they're the opposite gender, like you guys could literally have a freaky friday moment and nothing would change. Imagine the best friendship that could be found there."
I play it merely for the world it presents to me. Vana'Diel seems like a better-presented world to me than whatever world WoW is based in. Plus, it has the Mithra.

Soooo... Monster Hunter's also just a cake walk for the dumb-dumbies?
Now that I think about it, FFXI was a monsterous waste of time. The best aspect about it was hanging with chums. The LS static we had going for a while with Rena, Soulzero, Nixon, Mavin, and Jspace was my best time ever in the game.
I'm sorry there was ugliness that excluded you Glooms. But it certainly didn't seem to distract from your enjoyment. All that buisness is well in the past, hope to see you all in PSU!
The family we had in FFXI that Gus mentioned is what made the game to me. The game is long and gone for me, the bitterness of how time consuming and tedious it was is long gone. Now all that remains is the people I met and hung out with. "TheInnerCircle 4 ever"
Also WoW is far from the child's version of FFXI. Let's be real. Each job had like 2 to 5 things it could do. So it came down to remembering a couple of patterns. Hitting some macros and you were done. If anything was truly challenging in FFXI your name probably was Sephiroth or a variation of it.
I didn't so much mind the partying, as it's quite fun when you're in a good party and chaining monsters left and right. It's the uber-expensive equipment and the hours it took to get a party that iffed me about FFXI (I switch to WoW when I need a break from that). That, and I couldn't have fun with my Jobs. I still say if we weren't meant to be Warrior White Mages (yes, I know that probably isn't a good combination), we shouldn't be given the choice at all.

Two Words: "Guild Wars"
I have no idea why there are not alot of players of this great game on the pav... I have both WoW and GW and I personally enjoy GW (my friends on the other hand enjoy WoW... although they never played GW ) Try it out if you have $50 to burn and you want a fun experience.

Oh partying is fun! but what I mean is that, sometimes you stay around looking for a party even longer than your actually partying. Some places were just plain F'n empty! *cough*Garliage Citidel*cough*
Lack of getting a party was one thing, but not being able to solo anything killed it for me. Rewards suck for quests too, you didn't even get exp. And when you did get exp for a quest, you couldn't do it again for like a week.
I'm not paying each month to get no where. I knew how to work my job, and i had good equipment. Too bad I couldn't do anything with either.
Ah yes, I forgot about the sucky rewards. Especially from monsters. Someone here helped me get a skull of some sort (forget what it was, it was for the subjob quest). Can't remember how many skeletons had to be fought to get them. And he was something like L50 in a cave full of them.
