Wow, the best of the best of the best, with honor

I got RPG Maker 1 for christmas. I already had 2 and 3. Now that I have tried them all I would have to say that RPG Maker 1 is the best. It is very simple to use, fun, many ideas can be put into it, and it has a classic style RPG to it. None of the other ones gave you the ability to create your own character, although that makes sense since they are better quality graphics. I did not expect this to really be this good.

I have been messing around with the anime maker though and fell into a problem. It is really hard to create a character without a mouse. Which brings me to a question. Where can I get the mouse that can be used with it?

Also for those who have been using it, can you create your own battle system? I don't think you can but I am just checking.

Sorry if this writing is not understandible. I am having trouble using grammar today and cannot seem to fix my errors without making more.

Try ebay for a PSX Mouse. Also, it would be kinda hard to make your own battle system.

Enjoy RMPG1, I loved it. I also received it for Christmas back on 2000.

I understand it may be hard, but I would like to try anyway. I havn't messed with events so I don't know how much is possible. But I plan on using them sometime today.

yes, you can create a cbs for rpgm1.

it's easier to use than rpgm2, but for my money, i like 2 better.

Can someone who is good at making characters create a couple for me. I would like a Rouroni Kenshin and a vash the stampede one. Those would be awsome if someone could make them. Please.

if you have a dex drive, you can make a character using RPGC (located in the tools section).

If you load some of the pre-made character sprites in the Anime Maker there is a female sprite that looks a lot like Kenshin. Just edit the hands, eyes, and hair some and it should look just like him.

Load some of the Character sprites toward the end of the list, those are ones that haven't been imported to the game. Save the ones you like to the memory card and import them into your game. I like the samurai sprite with the purple hair, I'm using that as the main character for my RPGM1 game.

RPGM2 is cusomizable but hard to get used to, RPGM3 is easy but not very customizable. RPGM1 is right in between (munus variables and if/then commands ) , which is why I prefer it over the other two.

Anyway, I recommend looking through the event commands and seeing which ones are available before trying anything like a CBS. And while a CBS is entirely possible, you're not going to be able to create anything near what you could with RPGM2. There are some serious limitations you have to deal with if you want to create a CBS (such as the aforementioned lack of variables and if/then commands). If you want to create a CBS, you'll have to be creative, but at the same time don't expect to create a duplicate of even Final Fantasy 1's battle system.

I got RPGM1 the day it came out, I have many fond memories for it. I remember being so hyped for the game before it came out, I had so many plans for a serious game, then I worked on it for around 6 months mastering the system, then scrapped it and made Hippy Hunt.

Even though the game is classic, I could never go back to it for 2 reasons,

                  No keyboard support
                  Music

I don't think there will ever be a better maker than RPGM2, but I am glad to see that RPGM1 is still being used by poeple. (I can bet it is being used more by poeple than RPGM2.)

I like all but one song, personally. The song is one of the town songs, which is supposed to be used in a church. Can't stand it. Other than that, my only problem with the choices given to you are... Actually, the problem is the choices that aren't given to you. There's not enough variety. Only a few battle themes, no real panic theme or "evil villain making his speech" themes... You wind up with songs repeated in different instances, like an exploration Tower song suddenly being used for the evil villain, or the "Enemy 1" boss theme being used as a panic theme/evil villain theme.

The sound effects are terrible, but acceptable in their variety.

As for keyboard support, you'll eventually get pretty fast at typing with a controller, though it's nothing compared to actual keyboarding.

Oh yeah, I mastered typing with a controller like it was an art.

But after using a keyboard for a couple of years, there is no way I could go back.

I am getting pretty good at it. I started with the keyboard. I got it with RPG Maker 2 for my birthday last year, exactly one year before I got RPG Maker 3. It's nice using the keyboard but the controller isn't as bad as some people have said it is. What I find tough now is having to go through the map pieces and find the right oe to use. I think it will be easier if I put them all on a big poster with numbers like battleship to find the right one. I am also having trouble setting down an enemy in the doungeon. The stupid bat won't stay.

I dont use the field editor in RPG Maker 1. I would much rather link my towns and dungeons with custom/sample forests, caves, and grasslands. It uses up alot more memory but I am willing to sacrifice some space. I like to make monster filled paths instead of a line linking two town/dungeon graphics on a 2D field thats completely tan with no color transition. Its also better because I can have my towns change over time because not all the towns and castles in my game are going to be still standing at the end because the world in my game is full of terror and violence.

                              Thats a good idea.

Too bad I am to angry about the add things to go spend time doing that.

And no I didn't set it's movement. I saw something that told me that you might have to but I couldn't get it to do anything. I pressed every button and it either went back to the previous menu or did nothing.
