Even More Newbish Questions (DANGER WILL ROBINSON!)

    Hey Everybody!
This is a list of COMPLETELY n00bish Questions, so if you are Newbiphobic, then this isnt for you. They're all about RPGM3. No, I'm not new to proggramming and game making. I've been doing it for 4 years. The only reason im not getting RPGM2, is that it's out of stock where-ever I look, and because I'm not a very patient person (In terms of programming on PS2, or any console without a godamn keyboard to speed things up!!!)

    1. Is the USB Keyboard a requirement, or a reccommendation?

    2. 2705 KB, Is that the Maximum, or the Minimum?
RELATED: Is it recommended that I have a second Memory Card
RELATED: Do PS2 Hard-drives require you to open your PS2?

    3. When you're finished your godamn game after spending hours of work on it (not to mention the gallons and gallons of Coke and Coffee) Does the stand-alone save to your memory card?
RELATED: Can you play it from your memory card?
RELATED: Can my friends play it without RPGM3?

    4. I saw a copy of RPGM3 at EB-Games. Should I get it there, or should I get it somewhere else?
RELATED: Walmart, Futureshop, and all those gayass shops didnt have it.

    5. Why are all the reviewers (Perticularly 1UP.com) Giving RPG Makers such bad scores?

RPGM2 has keyboard support. In relation to actual coding by manually typing stuff like "cout<<this is a message;", it's actually faster. It's just the slowest of the three console RPGMs because it takes more effort than the other two.
    1. Is the USB Keyboard a requirement, or a reccommendation?
Recommended, to the point where it should be a requirement. Typing without a keyboard is way slow, and should not be attempted. Except for RPGM1, but that's not what you're asking about (and RPGM1 doesn't have keyboard support, though that's not too big a deal IMO).
    2. 2705 KB, Is that the Maximum, or the Minimum?
RELATED: Is it recommended that I have a second Memory Card

That's set. It'll take up that much memory no matter what. I myself recommend a second memory card, so that you could store more than one of these memory-consuming games on a single card (which you'll likely end up doing at one point or another). Installing the PS2 HDD requires opening up a panel in the back of your PS2, but it's nothing complex. Just open the panel, insert the HDD, cover with Network Adaptor. I think the Network Adaptor is required, at least. Whatever the case, I would not recommend getting the HDD just for RPGM3. Not worth it unless you intend on playing FFXI.
    3. When you're finished your godamn game after spending hours of work on it (not to mention the gallons and gallons of Coke and Coffee) Does the stand-alone save to your memory card?
RELATED: Can you play it from your memory card?
RELATED: Can my friends play it without RPGM3?
There is no stand-alone save. The save you use to work on the game is the save people use to play your game. You can't play your game without loading it from your memory card, and your friends have to have a copy of RPGM3 in order to play it. This is the case with all console RPGMs.
    4. I saw a copy of RPGM3 at EB-Games. Should I get it there, or should I get it somewhere else?
RELATED: Walmart, Futureshop, and all those gayass shops didnt have it.
Some people hate EBGames, but if that's the only place you can get it, get it from there. Preferably new, as you'll probably want a copy with the manual.
    5. Why are all the reviewers (Perticularly 1UP.com) Giving RPG Makers such bad scores?
Two reasons. 1) They rate games for the general gaming public, and the general gaming public doesn't like this game. Us game programmer wannabes willing to use tools such as these are few and far between (though you wouldn't know that just by looking at places like this and the Mag). 2) It doesn't look like the latest Final Fantasy game.

Bear in mind that RPGM3 does not compare to actual programming. It's mostly for those who want to make a game quick and easy, and can't do near as much stuff as actual programming. Not even RPGM2 can come close to the complexity of real programming, and that one can do a lot. If you're willing to accept its many limitations, then I say go ahead and go for it.

On a side note, this took me maybe 10 minutes to write, and I just KNOW someone probably already replied before me.

    EDIT: I was wrong

(BTW, off-topic, why does the "eek" emote bring up that not-smiley?)

Wow! That's for spending 10 minutes of your life explaining and answering my newbish questions lol. I know how hard coding is, as I usually spend alot of time with actionscript on Flash. Again, Thanks! Captain Janeway would appreciate it lol

      Another Question:
To use a USB Keyboard, do I just connect one of my extra computer keyboards to the USB Port? If not, how do I do it because Since I got Straight A's on my report card, I can get RPGM3 and I don't want to type using the dual shock.

That should work. If not, you should be able to find a keyboard for no more then 20$.

More Freaking Questions Coming At Ya (I CANT SHAKE EM!)
I'm taking a brake from Technical, and Going into...umm...Softwarical

1: Will I be Able to Make Liberaries? For Example, A Book shelf is right in front of me. I want the guy to go up to it and recieve a message (Like "This is the Book of History. It talks about blah blah blah blah blah blah-age)

            2: Vehicles, Are there any?
RELATED: If so, what are they?

3: What's this crap I'm hearing about limited memory? I DONT WANT LIMITED MEMORY! NOOOOO!

4: Is there a Limit for Descriptions? (EG: Character Bios, Monster Bios, Item Descriptions, etc...)

5: In your opinion, whats the longest game the Maker will let me create, in terms of if I run out of memory (Which I hope i dont)

Thanks in advance for answering my Freakishly Retarded Questions.

              1. Yes
              2. Boat and Blimp.
              3. In all the games, you can only do so much. With RPGM2 is virtually impossible to run out of memory, while in RPGM3 it's way too easy (100 character/NPC limit.)
              4. Yeah. There are barely ever displayed in game anyway.
              5.RPGM2.

                2: Vehicles, Are there any?
RELATED: If so, what are they?
Actually, RPGM3 only has hot air balloons that you can link between towns. You don't get to ride them, though. You just say you want to ride it and you warp there. Totally uninteresting. RPGM2, you could make a dog into a vehicle if you wanted.
3: What's this crap I'm hearing about limited memory? I DONT WANT LIMITED MEMORY! NOOOOO!
It's not so much memory limitation in RPGM3 that's the problem, it's the resources limitations. The biggest of them all being, you can create only up to 100 people in your game. You can't reuse any of them, anywhere. Aside from shopkeepers (they're their own events), this pretty much means that your world will only have up to 100 people in it.
4: Is there a Limit for Descriptions? (EG: Character Bios, Monster Bios, Item Descriptions, etc...)
Short paragraphs, and as said, only some of them are actually seen when you're playing the game. Can't remember which ones, but for certain you can see item/equipment descriptions.
5: In your opinion, whats the longest game the Maker will let me create, in terms of if I run out of memory (Which I hope i dont)
Without cheating, I'd say at least 10 hours. It depends on how frequent and difficult your random battles are.

                  5. You didn't get my question! I said "THE Maker." That means RPGM3. How long will it be in terms of hours?

PLUS: I would like to know more about the limit. Is the limit only applied to NPCS and Characters, or is it also applied to maps, items, etc...

PLUS 2: Which USB Hole do I plug my Keyboard in I got two, one on right and one on left.

I myself was talking about RPGM3 with game length. Though that was mostly a guess.

Nope, there's a limit for everything. Give me a few minutes, I'll tell you what you're limited to.

                    *digs out PS2 and RPGM3*

Re: More Newbish Questions (DANGER WILL ROBINSON!)

                            Fields (i.e. world maps) - 20
                            Towns - 40
                            Dungeons - 40
Classes (i.e. warrior, monk, sage, etc.) - 100
                            People - 100
                            Monsters - 100
                            Monster Parties - 100
                            Items - 300
                            Storytellers (RPGM3's cutscenes) - 100
                            Events - 3000

It is also impossible to have everything taken up. You can have up to 3000 stuff altogether, which kinda makes the 3000-event limit alone impossible to reach.
