    Computer Question

Is there anyway I can see which files or programs are taking up my hard drive space?

I'm down to three gigs, and I'd like to clear up some space.

In Control Panel, the selections, Add/Remove programs and Performance and Maintenance should help you clear some space.

EDIT- Performance and Maintenance can take care of your problem.

      You could manually check...

Browse folders. Get rid of crap you don't use.

Hold your mouse over a folder (or check the properties) and it will say how much space its using.
Just check your various folders like that.

Best thing to do is go to add/remove programs. It will be faters and it will also tell you how often you use the program. Another thing you my want to do is got to programs> accessories> system tools> disk clean up After you see what useless crap you can remove and ummm remove it, defrag. That might help some.

Yeah, I know all that. I was just wondering if there was some sort of list of every folder on my computer, and how much space it took up.

              Thanks for help though guys.

Edit: Alright, I got it up to 9 gigs. Thanks everyone.

                1. Press Logo+F or go to Start > Find/Search
                2. There is an option to search all files whose size exceeds an amount given. I always begin with 4 megabytes when I want to clean up my hard disk.
                3. Make sure you are searching C or My Computer or whatever you want to search. UPDATE: You indicate a folder but leave the filename entry EMPTY. This asks the system to bring up all files in said directory. OR, you could just enter "*" to make sure it brings up all files.
                4. If the system complains of too many results, raise the minimum-size requirement.
                5. Click on the Size column to sort files by size.
                6. Notice the largest files and what they are and the directories they are in. This should give you a fast idea as to what to delete.

You can also try the Disk Clean Up utility in the Accessories folder. Sometimes clearing the temporary folder does yield some decent space. UPDATE: I've seen some systems become VERY slow (half hour?) when invoking Clean Up. I'd say, don't kill the process, let the program launch as it will eventually work. The make sure you use it and then defrag the system afterwards. On XP, I've notice the need to defrag various times consecutively to make the most out of it (if you don't defrag often, that is). All of this should make sure "Clean Up" stays accessible.

Caciss, here's a hint, start your search with all the pictures of naked ladies.
The Cyclops having only one eye, needed to seek shelter from the harsh sun. The shadow cast by the spheres gave him temporary respite.

Oh, pictures don't take up THAT much space.

If I got rid of my stuff I'd probably free up 40 gigs.
