    Playstation Network is back up

    New topic on this.

Playstation network has been down since the 20th due to a security breech using custom firmware to grab free games, personal info, and possibly credit card information. When it goes back up, everyone will have to reset their passwords because of this. The department of homeland security is now getting involved.

You are allowed to voice your anger at sony, and the outside parties responsible in this topic. You are not allowed to troll, or do anything that violates our "anti-fanboy" regulation, although I do ask the staff and members here to remember that Sony's low level of security in the PSN itself and complete failure to inform it's users that their personal information was at risk for nearly a week has rightfully earned them a certain amount of rage from the gaming community, and such rage may be expressed in this topic within reason.

I eagerly await the "gesture of goodwill" supposedly coming.

Also, I miss Demon's Souls online.

    Edit:

I've been waiting to play Outland too, has anyone downloaded it on the Xbox and played it? Is it worth it?

I played a few levels at a Sony event last December, it's pretty neat. It's like Prince of Persia meets Ikaruga meets... some kind of other action game with swords and stuff. Reviews are good so far, so I'd say "Go for it!" when PSN comes back.

        Re: Playstation Network downtime

By and large, I stayed out of the other topic.

I miss playing my nearly 100 PSN games once my 60 gig died, and I have no way of redownloading them until PSN comes back up. That's really the only thing killing me with this outage. If I was still able to play my PSN stuff, I'd not be all that concerned about it being down. And the debit card tied to my account expires today, so I'm not worried about someone grabbing my debit card number, either.

Oh, dumb question...is it just North American PSN that's down, or is it worldwide? Because if the JP PSN is still up, I could at least redownload the two Wizardry games. Granted, I did the cloud saving thing with those files, so I guess until PSN comes back up, I'd not be able to continue where I left off anyway.

Maybe I should play some of the disc-based stuff I've not put a dent into yet.

I'm right down to the wire on the 3 years to get my RRoD replaced with a refurbished model.

I wonder how Chad Warden would react to this.

                  Sony needs a hero.

                    Re: Playstation Network downtime

I'll be curious to see what mea culpa Sony does for this, if any. I know a Live outage was eventually compensated with a free game, but then Live is a paid service and PSN is free. At the same time though, that outage was absolutely nowhere near this length. This level of downtime for a console's online functions is probably unprecedented since the beginning of the generation. So it would be in their best interest to offer players something in the way of compensation. A free downloadable game being a good idea, or at least a good start.

                          Coming back "this week"

                          http://blog.us.playstation.com/2011/...ble-this-week/

Complimentary Offering and “Welcome Back” Appreciation Program
While there is no evidence at this time that credit card data was taken, the company is committed to helping its customers protect their personal data and will provide a complimentary offering to assist users in enrolling in identity theft protection services and/or similar programs. The implementation will be at a local level and further details will be made available shortly in each region.

The company will also rollout the PlayStation Network and Qriocity “Welcome Back” program, to be offered worldwide, which will be tailored to specific markets to provide our consumers with a selection of service options and premium content as an expression of the company’s appreciation for their patience, support and continued loyalty.

Central components of the “Welcome Back” program will include:

                          * Each territory will be offering selected PlayStation entertainment content for free download. Specific details of this content will be announced in each region soon.
                          * All existing PlayStation Network customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service. Current members of PlayStation Plus will receive 30 days free service.
                          * Music Unlimited powered by Qriocity subscribers (in countries where the service is available) will receive 30 days free service.

Additional “Welcome Back” entertainment and service offerings will be rolled out over the coming weeks as the company returns the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services to the quality standard users have grown to enjoy and strive to exceed those exceptions.

                              I like that, but...
                              * All existing PlayStation Network customers will be provided with 30 days free membership in the PlayStation Plus premium service. Current members of PlayStation Plus will receive 30 days free service.
Anything free obtained will go away at the end of the 30 days. Any cloud saves will become inaccessible after 30 days. Useful if you want to back stuff up and pay to retrieve it later, I guess.

they don't wipe the cloud storage when your membership expires, do they? don't think they would, but want to be sure.
