    data collection

would it be helpful if i was to get pictures/screenshots of in game data for RPG Maker 3?

since the time on game loading can suck for previewing things you want to work with.

im down to get all relevant pictures and seperate into folders by specific types, character models, monster models, housing, etc.

if people had a folder of all the game models, it would cut down on time and help speed up the process i think? and of course each sub section with its own folder to reduce clutter

so what are the big requests?

    weapon models
    character/npc models
    monster models
    town models
    item/treasure models
    decoration models

anything else im missing to gather?

    Re: data collection

At one time, I was working on a customizable character sheet maker with someone else here that would have used all of the 2D portraits in the game...but there are nearly 1,000 of them.

It's also a pain in the ass to organize all of them.

    But if you're taking requests...

Wow, that would be incredibly helpful if you could pull that off.

Building interiors might be a good idea, too.

Somewhere in the community, there's already a guide showing all the characters, monsters and portraits. But I'm not sure items and buildings are included.

Just posting so I can be informed of any new updates.

I'm interested in this, if you ever finish.

would it be better to have description info on the screenshot or just on the file name or both?

I'd say keep the screen shots as clean as possible (no added text or overlays). And stick to a simple naming scheme for the file names, with a consistent directory/folder structure for organization.

Additional descriptions or information could be written down in a plain-text file in the root/main folder.

I think that would be the most simple and clear way of making sure the reference data is usable and re-usable (that is, put into something like a database in the future, with minimal modification).

                Just my two cents.

Tussin, are you going to be using a screen capture device for this?

You could try playing the game in an emulator and taking screen shots that way. It would be the cleanest, cheapest, method resulting in very high quality images.

That's the one I have. Works well enough for me. But I really never use it anymore. It should be able to do everything you need. But people who use this kind of thing more regularly may have different recommendations.

Any time I need to take screen shots of games, I use an emulator - the quality is just so good that a screen capture cable can't compare. Plus it's free. :P
