Its not an actual sequel, Sony owns the rights to it over here. This is a 'spirtual' sequel, much like Shadow of the Collusus and ICO(I'm well aware that many consider SOTC a prequel).

Demon's Souls wasn't difficult, it just punished stupidity and unprepared-ness.

EDIT @ RD: No, Sony owns the rights to the name Demon's Souls in Japan. Sony never published here. And it's not a spiritual successor. It IS the sequel, but just with a different name.

I'm assuming RD means me? Dark Souls was shown at E3 last year, they didn't call it a sequel then. Must of changed i guess.

Doesn't matter, I'll be getting it either way.

Sorry...not sure how I confused you for RD, Jehuty. I was on my cell, and did not look closely enough, I guess.


To me, Valkyria Chronicles was a spiritual successor to Skies of Arcadia. Same vibe, same development team, completely different gameplay.

Child of Eden is the spiritual successor to Rez. Same director/developer, similar vibe and gameplay, but in reality (from what's been shown) almost completely different.

Demon's Souls was (from what I've read) the spiritual successor to the King's Field series. Same developers, same dark vibe, same difficulty, but different theme/gameplay/etc.


Now, granted, not a lot has yet been shown or talked about for Dark Souls, but it appears to be the same dark vibe, same team (obviously), almost the same name, and (from what I'm gathering) very similar gameplay but with some tweaks (character-building/"open world"/etc). To me, this sounds exactly like a sequel that they just had to title differently as they could not get the rights to the name.

I liked the archstones... I hope there's not gonna be any Hyrule Field style running from place to place.
