The Official Online Minecraft Thread (NEW: Server Hosting!)

So after some dabbling and tinkering I have concluded that it is remarkably easy to run a server provided everyone willing to play on said server uses Hamachi. For those that do not know, Hamachi is a networking application that allows users to connect to private networks and it assigns each machine in the network an IP. The server host can use that IP and the standard Minecraft port to then host a server.

Currently, I host a server for a few close friends and it works swimmingly. While I would be willing to indefinitely host the server, I'm afraid I would be over-extending myself and it would wear my bandwidth too thin for an enjoyable experience for all. Because I can't just stop hosting the server I have now.

So with that, I would like to propose that we create an official Pavilion Minecraft server and encourage anyone with a decent upstream to volunteer their services to this noble cause.

...Because Minecraft is 10x better when you're playing it with friends.

I'm all for this, only I can't help with server issues.
    ...and that's why.

Alright, I've basically got everything set up. The server's being shared with some people. By that I mean the spawn point has a large wall on either side of it, one leading to the "PavWorld" and the other leading to the section of the server my close friends have been building on.

So for anyone who wants to play, This is essential.

I'll be handing out server details to anyone who wants to start playing on the server.

The server is live and Denmo and I are on it currently. If you wanna play, grab Hamachi and get ahold of me for the network name~

              Consider it done.

The server was down for most of the night last night because I was having some trouble keeping it running at a decent speed. It couldn't keep up to save it's life. But now, to the two people who are in the Hamachi network, it's online.

A gggggreat day~ Today we learned that Magus loves digging, Toaster loves spelunking, Lizards is OCD, and Denmo is a designer!

Here's what we mainly worked on, aside from tunneling around.

Currently it's 3 stories high and unfinished. Plan to continue the towers up another couple stories and end them in giant obsidian spires, possibly adorned with magma or gates to the nether.

Surprised myself at how fun it was to build as a group like this.

I really want to get into this game, but as open world as this seems, and with no "main" objective, I just dont see myself playing it for more than a couple of hours, and then shelving it.

The group building aspect is not the main game.

I know that, but from my understanding there is no "objective" to the Minecraft, you just build and mine and explore. And while i could find that fun for a while, i need some kind of objective.

Honestly, I wouldn't enjoy Minecraft as much if it had a main objective really. To me, it would give the game a sense of finality that would really go against the whole point of the game.

I don't think Minecraft needs an objective, but I really wish Notch would add things that actually add to the gameplay.

For example, I would love to see him improve on the dungeons in the game. Why not create ruins and egyptian style buildings that get randomly generated into the world with dungeons built in.

He should expand on the traps in the game and allow trap doors for water/lava to flood things.

                              More craftable items.

I really wouldn't mind seeing randomly generated items drop from certain mobs in dungeons to give it an almost Diablo feel.

Minecraft is great, but for how much money and development time that was put into the game, there really isn't a whole lot to do outside of build this with a friend. It has a lot of potential and I enjoy the game quite a bit, but according to Notch's todo list, it doesn't seem like he plans on expanding gameplay much beyond what is in it now.
