Brand new Genesis/Megadrive game: Pier Solar

I just realized that this hasn't been brought up here. But yes, there is a new game for the Sega Genesis being released now. In limited quantities. And it's an RPG.

    http://www.piersolar.com/

Being a turn-based RPG with state-of-the-art aesthetics, Pier Solar tells the epic story of Hoston, a young botanist who is on a quest to save his father from a mysterious illness. With 64MEG of mega-power at their hands, WaterMelon have given players innovative battles, fantastic graphics with background scaling, mini-games and plenty of other surprises that will mega-blast the player every time!
I've already bought a copy. Just waiting for their next shipment date.

    And now, a few screenshots.

Wow. The developers are only about 15 years or so late.

Still, gotta give kudos to them. If I had the capability, I'd make an SNES game myself. Actually, SNES Dev. Kits probably aren't too expensive, anymore.

The creator's are real dickish about the game. They treat themselves as an exclusive club and if your join date on the forums isn't 2009 then you're absolute scum not worthy of licking their boots. Everyone there acts like a total elitist who love the smell of their own farts. The "inferior peasant reprint edition" (as it should be named) doesn't come with half the stuff of the original edition but you can't buy the original anymore because their members basically bought 30 copies and are selling it for jacked up prices on eBay.

At one point the devs said "The reprint won't contain the music disc but someone will rip it for you." Well, someone ripped it but then they locked the topic and said "This is copywritten, here's a CD for you" which is a poor quality audio track with none of the extras the original CD got. One of their members probably *****ed that us peasants were getting what they got and it wasn't special anymore so here's this half-assed CD.

Even worse, nobody is actually talking about the game. Everyone is gushing over the packaging OMG THE PACKAGING SO SLICK AND UNIQUE oh, the game? Rule #1 about Pier Solar, we don't talk about Pier Solar. Even the website is 99% about the packaging because "it'll spoil the game if we showed actual gameplay."

In short, terrible people and probably a terrible game. I'll retract my last statement once actual word of the gameplay comes in but the first statement is staying.

yikes, so bitter. did you try to join them before or something? im sensing a lot of hostility.

its not like anyone cant get their cd by simply torrenting it. i bet you can even get a flac copy out there somewhere. of course a second run isnt going to be the same as the first, when is a greatest hits version ever as good as a primary run? the game sold well so they are produced another run of it.

i tried finding more info about the game itself and much of what i found was gloating about being the first game to use the cd and cart at the same time. still think its impressive that people are making homebrew for a catraged system, and expanding on the technology of the system.

Yeah, I can't find any info about the actual game either. even in their "about the game" page.

Usually that screams "we're hiding something for a damn good reason".

So in other words, its like every other internet forum in existence?

                  And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't

I'm friends with the guy that posted that video.

He says the game is great.

                    I ordered a copy too.

is this a good representation of the game or are the graphics fuzzy in the game too? i havent played on a genisis since the early 90's.

will it be released on xbla?

                        This game is finally out?

I made a topic about it like two years ago and forgot it even existed.

Greatest hits are the same game in a slightly different package. Their "reprint edition" (as it's called) is the game with absolutely none of the features that their website still advertises. It's the equivalent of EA releasing "Dragon Age 2" in limited copies without telling anyone and then a month later releasing "Dragon Age 2: Cut Down Edition" where half the features from the original are gone (it's funny because EA pretty much does this but I digress).

They still have like 1200+ copies sitting in a warehouse but apparently these are "warantee" copies which won't be sold (despite only 800 copies being shipped). If you go on their forums and ask about an original copy you'll be bombarded by a bunch of asshats going "TOO BAD YOU SHOULD'VE BEEN HERE 2 YEARS AGO YOU DON'T DESERVE THIS GAME." I'm not making this up, that's literally a comment I read.

The creator, Fonzie, denies all bug reports. If you try to talk about bugs he locks the topic and says "No. No bugs. It's your hardware."

The game doesn't save properly. The save mechanic only registers when you leave the current screen. Imagine playing Secret of Mana where you rest at an inn and save but if you turned your game off before leaving the inn then you lose that save.

Now get this, it's not a bug, it's a feature because it's mentioned in the manual.

I was watching a stream of the game and it looks super boring. This guy was playing for literally 9 hours straight and spent about 50% of that time grinding. He died against a particular boss like 4 times even though he grinded for, no lie, an hour and a half. There's more grinding in this game than every Phantasy Star put together and the encounter rate is Final Fantasy IV ridiculous.

tl;dr: The community is largely cold and the game doesn't look that great. The collector in me wants it just to say I have a new Sega game but I really, really don't want to support these guys at all.

Okay, so the game is made by complete jerks. No biggie. I just won't visit the forums.

But please don't make me regret spending $45 on a brand new Genesis RPG (which probably will never happen again), just because you got cheesed off at someone else's community. I'd rather form my own opinion of the game.

Also, while the save dealie is a little weird, I never shut off a game in a save menu anyway. That's like asking for trouble.

                              Forty five bucks?

You know you can get better quality games here on the Pavilion for way cheaper (read: free)?

Yeah, I don't see the point in this unless you're just collecting it for the sake that it's a genesis game that's in a cart.
