Canadaaaaaaa - New Copyright Act proposed~

    http://ca.news.yahoo.com/s/capress/1..._act_quicklist

Its all stupid usual crap. But this is the one that gets me.

When informed by a copyright owner that someone is illegally downloading material, an Internet service provider would now be required to forward a notice to their customer and keep a record of that correspondence for use in any future court case.
also I laughed at this part.

Having more than one backup copy of a song or movie: You can back up a copy of a legally acquired song, but can't have more than one copy. It could therefore be illegal to copy a series of songs onto a USB key and share them with a friend. The possible penalty is $100 to $5,000
You can back up your stuff, BUT FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WE WILL ONLY LET YOU DO IT ONCE.

So, if you rip a CD you own, if you want to put those songs on an MP3 player, you have to delete them afterwards? wait, no, because you'll still have broken the law for a minute or two.

what about itunes' autosync feature? is itunes now illegal?

        Canada's dumb.

If Im not allowed to give my friend a USB stick witha bunch of music on it, can I let them borrow all my CDs instead? Or would that be illegal once/and IF the bill gets through?

Its retarded. Its not going to stop anybody from doing anything really. The whole not being allowed to get programs to play DVDs from other parts of the world is retarded too. How is that hurting anybody at all? Is it taking jobs away from those people who make universal DVD players that can play anything from anywhere?

the bill will get trounced by opposition. its like every other copyright crap that canada has looked at, designed to look like we are doing something but ultimately we just dont care. our winning strategy has always been to sit back and let situations naturally resolve themselves.

This worries me. I wonder if the world will lapse into a totalitarian society by the time we're old?

If it gets passed, I don't know what the fuh. I sure hope someone with common sense shoots it down, but I'm not terribly sure anyone in parliament has any of that left.

Mind you, I'm far more scared of this mystical worldwide bill I've been hearing and reading about that would basically allow airport security to search your portable music players and, if they found one song that they suspected was not legally on there, could confiscate it. Then there's the part about "if you're suspected of downloading illegally three times, you lose internet access for life."

Anyone else heard about that one? Apparently all the countries are working on it and trying to keep it hush hush or something, but holy damn. Or I could just be a misinformed infidel, but I've seen it in the paper at least twice, so... >_>

Oh Lord I'm gonna get it prison style if that's true.
What's the point of having an emergency response system if you can't provoke the wrath of God?
