Need a program to rip DVDs into AVI/MPEGs

I made the decision yesterday to pull apart my A/V setup in order to record some "commentary" on my first RPGM game. Basically, I'm running the audio from the game out to a mixing board, with a microphone also running into the board, and then outputting that audio mix to my DVD recorder, along with a standard def signal from my PS3 (had to use PS2 cables, and change the display settings). So I'm recording these commentary tracks live while I play the game. I did seven of them yesterday, at give or take about a half-hour each.

So now I'm gonna need to rip these from the DVD into a file format I can use to upload to my blog. Preferably, I'd like Mpeg4 files, as they seem to look the best. So the question I guess is, what's a good program to use to rip DVDs into Mpegs? Also, for decent quality half-hour Mpeg4, does anyone have a ballpark in terms of how big that file would be, and how much it would differ from an AVI?

    Thanks in advance.

Use the 30-day free trial of DVDFab. I used it when I needed it, and it works pretty well and is easy to use.

I use Handbrake. You can choose the format, quality, max size. I've used it for YouTube bull**** and YTMNDs. I'm prolly gonna make a decent demo reel sometime.

I used DVDShrink. You can change all the settings you want on it and I'm pretty sure you can convert it into most common file formats (M-peg4, WMV, AVI etc.). Albeit, you might have to compromise on sharpness/smoothness depending on how big the files are, but that shouldn't be a problem.
