    New Tsukuru Being Developed?

I just saw that enterbrain posted a new survey inquiring potential customers about a new Tsukuru title potentially being developed. I think. :P

Any ideas what this is about?

Thanks for the heads-up on this.

Seems fairly obvious. They're polling to see how to sell the next PC RPG Maker title, and what style it should use (sci fi, modern, comical, realistic), and how much add-ons would cost.

They probably have the engine done, and just want to know a direction to go with the assets for it.

Really wish they'd do another console title though. after VX and IG Maker, I really don't think enterbrain knows what they're doing with the PC RPGMs. Hell, I don't think anyone who worked on XP and earlier RPGMs is even at the company anymore.

Yeah, this is really exciting but I truly wish they'd get back to the console Makers, especially since the technology of the 360 and PS3 offer a better opportunity to develop a sharable game than the PS2 ever did (which was no slouch itself).

Now, I want to respond to this, but there are some questions (give an adjective for Tsukuru, but don't worry about the genre?!?) or answers (the Contests question for example) on the Babelfish translation that make me think I'm not interpreting it correctly.

Could we all work together to come up with a more intelligable version of this survey, then go to the original survey page and fill it out in English?

OK, I'm going to take my best shot at making sense of the English translation. If you think I misinterpreted one of the phrases, please copy this into your own post and edit it mercilessly!

(Also, can we sticky this thread until the end of the survey?)

Some of the translations are pretty funny by the way; "Thursday" appears as "Wood" on the Google Translation because of the kanji used. "Enterbrain" was translated as "Entry Blurring"!

        Please respond to this questionnaire

As always, thank you for your patronage of the Tsukuru Series [Note: for our newbies, this is the name of the "Maker" Series in Japan].

We are developing a new game in the Tsukuru Series for Microsoft Windows and are distributing this questionaire to get your input.

We will select five people from all the questionaires that we receive and award them a prize. The prize is a 3000 Yen [Note: this is about $30 USD] gift certificate.

The questionaire deadline is Thursday May 6th, 2010, at 11:59pm [Note: this is 10:59am US Eastern time]. We will send out the prizes in late May.

        Entry Rules:
        • One reply per person, please.
        • You must enter a valid email address in order to win a prize.
        • Prizes are limited to residents of Japan.
        • We will send you a notification on May 11, 2010 if you have won a prize. Please respond if you cannot receive the prize on a certain date. [Note: the translation for this bullet was awful; can anyone help me?]
        • Please make sure your email client will not filter mail from <tkool@ ml.enterbrain.co.jp > as spam, so that you may receive the notification email.
        • Any private information we receive from you is subject to our Privacy Policy.

Unfortunately, we cannot respond to what you write on this survey.

We will use your responses for the sole purpose of improving our Tsukuru games.

Q1. What genre/style for which you would most like to see for additional content [Note: I assume this means downloadable content] released for this Tsukuru game?
        • Modern (for example, things you might find in a High School Sim)
        • Traditional Asian/Japanese (for example, things you might find in Dynasty Warriors or Romance of the Three Kingdoms)
        • Science Fiction (for example, mechanical and futuristic things)
        • Other Genres [Space to Type Your Response]

Q2. What kind of additional content would you most like to see for additional content?
        • Character Graphics for the Map (for example, frames of a character walking)
        • Character Portraits
        • Map Tile Graphics
        • Monster Graphics
        • Music
        • Sound Effects

Q3. Would you rather the graphics released as additional content be realistic or cartoonish?
        • Realistic
        • Cartoonish

Q4. Assuming the additional material is sold, at what price would you consider purchasing it? [Note: it's not clear to me whether this means all DLC is available for one price, whether this is the price for a small DLC pack, or the price for each object.]
[Drop-down menu; choices listed in order:]
        • Please Select
        • If the additional material is less than 500 yen, I'd buy it. [Note: 500 yen is about $5 USD.]
        • 500 Yen to 1000 Yen
        • 1000 Yen to 1500 Yen
        • 1500 Yen to 2000 Yen
        • 2000 Yen to 2500 Yen
        • 2500 Yen to 3000 Yen
        • 3000 Yen to 3500 Yen
        • 3500 Yen to 4000 Yen
        • I would buy it even above 4000 yen.
        • I would not purchase additional material at any price.

Q5. Through which venue would you like to purchase this? [Note: I think it's referring to the Tsukuru itself, not the Downloadable Content. The kanji for 'additional' was not here, though I guess it might have been implied.]
        • Buy it at a Store
        • Receive it through the Mail
        • Download it from our site to your Computer
        • Buy a Book which includes the CD

Q6. How satisfied are you with the amount of content which has been available in the Tsukuru programs so far?
[Note: again, I don't think this refers to DLC but rather what is available right out of the box.]
        • Very Satisfied
        • Somewhat Satisfied
        • Neither Satisfied nor Dissatisfied
        • Somewhat Dissatisfied
        • Very Dissatisfied

Q7. Do you think we should hold a Contest when we release the new Tsukuru?
        • Yes--please answer question #8
        • No--please skip to question #9

Q8. (If you answered "Yes" to question #7): Please tell us what is most important to include in the Contest. (Select all that apply.)
        • A big Prize for the winner(s)
        • The winner(s) is included in the official Tsukuru content
        • Users can participate in judging the entrants
        • Other: [Space to Type Your Response]

Q9. What kind of game would you like to be able to make with this Tsukuru?
(We're not concerned with genre name or game title so much as what you'd like to be able to make with this Tsukuru.)

[Space to Type Your Response] Tsukuru

Q10. What would you most like to see in future Tsukuru software? Please tell use what you would like to see in both the combat system and the editor.
In the first box, tell us what you'd like to see in the combat system (Example: We want... (XXX) ...in the combat system)
        [Space to Type Your Response]
In the first box, tell us what you'd like to see in the editor (Example: We want... (XXX) ...in the editor)
        [Space to Type Your Response]

Please be sure to fill out the following field!

        Customer Contact Information:
E-Mail address: [Space to Type Your Email]

Please double-check to make sure you entered your email correctly; it is necessary in order to contact you if you win a prize.

What!? Why have I never known you could translate Japanese? This is awesome!

Edit: Dang it, I can't even rep you. I'll have to rep you some other time, Wave.

Thanks man. Glad it was helpful! Most of it was just me making sense of the English translation (from Google) that Thutmose posted.

I am studying Japanese so some of the weird words (like "wood" for Thursday or "teach" for tell in question 8--both translate to the verb "iimasu") are just things you would notice once you've been around the language a bit...

...and then there are travesties like the answers to Question 7, which Google decided to translate as:
            • "Please be and advance to →Q8
            • Please advance to calling obtaining →Q9".

Thankfully, the responses on the original page started with "Hai" (Yes) and "Iie" (No), which made my life a lot easier.

              Bump!

This poll is going to close in about 24 hours.

Please participate and help make Enterbrain make some smart, successful decisions! Maybe throw something in there about how great it would be if it came out in English-speaking regions...

or just type "HOME CONSOLE" in every field. because it would be really nice if they threw a bone to the people who kept that branch of enterbrain afloat from 2000-2005 by actually buying their products.
