Programming a New RMXP Resource Manager Site

I'm going to be programming a RPG Maker XP resource manager site and host it on my own web-server. I know that XP isn't super popular here, but I'm posting this here anyway. It's something I've wanted to do for some time.

I'd like some feedback, ideas, and suggestions regarding the features that you would like to see in your most ideal resource manager.

Here is what I have figured out so far, things marked with [optional] mean that they are not required of every resource uploaded, so people can choose what they want to fill out:
    • Auto generate thumbnail images
    • Upload custom thumbnails [optional]
    • Upload additional images for each resource [optional]
    • Descriptions (text) for each resource [optional]
    • License/Usage text [optional]
    • Can upload collections in ZIP || RAR files
    • Can edit, revise, or otherwise update submissions in case of mistakes or to do updates, etc.
    • People can tag resources
    • People can comment on & rate resources (ratings on a scale of five stars)
    • Ability to list, sort, and or search resources by star rating, keywords, tags, upload date, author, uploader, etc.
    • Wide list of categories to select from - i.e. music can have subcategories like ambient, background, sound-effect, etc.

To upload, comment on, or rate a resource, you make an account (no email address required), and that's it. Anyone can view & download resources, no account required.

It will probably take me a couple weeks or so to get it done; I've programmed similar stuff before. My Spring Break just ended, and tomorrow is my first class of the new term. That tuition increase better be worth it. :P Not to mention Kupid.

Does anyone here have any ideas, suggestions, or questions? Any categories that you would like to see, be sure to let me know. The more feedback I get, the better the final site will be.

Well Mose I would like to see decent size thumbnails or a way to blow them up so you can see them better. I hate trying to squent to see what they are suppose to look like. If that is possible Plus glad to see that there will be a resource for XP. I still mess around with the game from time to time.

Re: Programming a New RMXP Resource Manager Site

We're going to start hosting some XP stuff (finally) in a week or so, as part of the game directory revision. But it's obvious that won't be our first priority, we'll always focus more on the console stuff.

I'm looking forward to another XP resource site. Most of the ones out there now are a pain in the ass to navigate, and yeah, decent previews are rare. Most resource sites actually host all their stuff inside their forum, so you have to dig through topics and hope links work.

        ugh.

I'm confident you can design something far more user friendly.

and yay, a PC RPG Maker site that will be friendly with the console RPG Maker sites!

that's the best part of this.

anything that grows the community is fantastic. looking forward to seeing what you whip up.

            Thanks, Valk.

Right now Kupid is my absolute first priority (well, maybe college & work comes first :P). An old colleague and friend of mine also wants my help with designing a Moodle program for use at her company, so I've got that to work on too.

            Sure. Why not?

I've never used VX, only XP, so I don't know what all the dimensions are for the resources for RPGM VX. But I'll do the research and let people upload stuff for that, too.
