Voting for the opposing party is worse than rape.

A bill was proposed by a democrat, a bill "to deny funding to Government contractors who deny their employees’ rights to seek justice in court when they have been raped by co-workers."

30 republican senators voted against this bill.

    http://seminal.firedoglake.com/diary/8832

I can see how things involving healthcare and the economy can be debatable, but rape? Seriously?

Now I guess overall I'd consider myself to be a democrat, though some issues I don't agree with, but I don't just blindly say that whatever the democratic party supports I also support because its not always the case.

The fact that they can't put their differences aside and would rather support rape is just ridiculous.

    THIS IS AN OUTRAAAAGE >_>

The worst part was pointed out by Jon Stewart the day after:
    http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/we...2009/rape-nuts

A few of these Republicans used the exact opposite argument in the case against Acorn. My own Johnny Isakson here in Georgia argued FOR Federal government to make sure it only contracts with companies that follow a strict moral guideline in reference to ACORN, then 2 weeks later when KBR/Halliburton are in the spotlight, he said congress shouldn't even entertain the idea of messing with contracts like this. ****ing hypocrites. Oh and here's a list of the senators(Both mine voted for against the amendment):
    Sen. Lamar Alexander (R-TN)
    Sen. John Barrasso (R-WY)
    Sen. Kit Bond (R-MO)
    Sen. Sam Brownback (R-KS)
    Sen. Jim Bunning (R-KY)
    Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC)
    Sen. Saxby Chambliss (R-GA)
    Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK)
    Sen. Thad Cochran (R-MS)
    Sen. Bob Corker (R-TN)
    Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX)
    Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID)
    Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC)
    Sen. John Ensign (R-NV)
    Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY)
    Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC)
    Sen. Judd Gregg (R-NH)
    Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK)
    Sen. Johnny Isakson (R-GA)
    Sen. Mike Johanns (R-NE)
    Sen. Jon Kyl (R-AZ)
    Sen. John McCain (R-AZ)
    Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY)
    Sen. James Risch (R-ID)
    Sen. Pat Roberts (R-KS)
    Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL)
    Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL)
    Sen. John Thune (R-SD)
    Sen. David Vitter (R-LA)
    Sen. Roger Wicker (R-MS)

You'll notice no female Senators voted against the bill.

Here's a great video you should watch on the subject too:

EDIT - Might I suggest you change the title to something a bit less inflammatory? Maybe something like "Republicansforrape.com" It gets the same message out but isn't as sensationalist.

I guess I'm a bit late hearing about it, I don't have cable right now.
But in finding out I just wanted to say something about it cause I haven't been this offended in a long time.

I watched the Daily Show clip and am watching the other right now.
      Its just so sad...

I'm glad Minnesota's got Al Franken. Though quite frankly I don't think he's enough to counterbalance Michelle Bachmann.

There shouldn't have to be a bill for this. Maybe thats why they voted against.

EDIT: What i mean by the way, Is that cutting funding to people who don't support the people that have been raped is somewhat of a no brainer. Just seems like that should be standard.

oh, darn that fine print. yeah, there's no reason a group taking tax dollars should condone rape.

By the same logic, there shouldn't have to have been a bill for Acorn. This is a ridiculously huge dick move generating publicity that the Republican party really doesn't need right now. I hope these guys lose their senate seats.

I still don't get it. Sounds like a bunch of democrats broadcasting their views like any other politician.

Re: Voting for the opposing party is worse than rape.

Acorn is an organization that's been called out by republicans for things like voter fraud and more recently supporting prostitution as a business. There was a bill proposed by and argued for by these same Republicans to pull all government funding for Acorn. If you don't understand the bull**** being pulled here, just watch that Jon Stewart clip Alto posted. He sums it up pretty well.

Re: Voting for the opposing party is worse than rape.

I think I heard one of the Republican senators defining his 'nay' vote as follows: this is just a Democrat excuse for the government to cut ties with Halliburton and thus is politically motivated (as opposed to caring about rape victims). However, Halliburton has ripped off the government (our tax dollars) of at least $212 million in fuel-related overhauls as of 2005 in the Iraq War. But we still use them. The rape thing...but they still support them. But when the Acorn thing happens...oh lordie, you get the tar, I'll get the feathers!

Not trying to say there wasn't anything wrong with what Acorn did, but if you want to cut their funding, you know which other organization's government funding you should cut as well...

                            Can you say "distraction"?

Seriously, its just a big joke. They're in cahoots.

They will come up with whatever reasoning they can to support their side. Whatever helps them sleep at night. After watching the 2nd vid that Alto put up, even their sorry excuses weren't adding up.
