Handheld game consoles FTW

This morning I woke up around 5am to find out that a huge thunderstorm had knocked out power to my area. At first I was frustrated. Then I remembered I could use the DS as my alarm clock, which I did. I also used it to navigate my place in the dark while I got ready for work, and as my clock to make sure I got there on time.

The power was out until right before I left, so I would've been boned otherwise.

Anyone else ever use your handheld in an unconventional way?

Yeah, I use my DS and PSP as flashlights at night. no light switches near my bed, so I just grab one of them.

I've used my DS as a kitchen timer, flashlight, reading light and a few other things. It also served as my alarm clock during my time at Newcastle uni. I carry it with me everywhere in my medicine bag.

Did you not have a cellphone to use as an alarm clock?


I haven't done anything too unorthodox. I used to use the remote play on my PSP to watch the cartoons from my PS3 on my PSP as I cooked, but that's because those video formats wouldn't play on my PSP directly.

Nothing unorthidox, although I have used the alarm function on my DS time and again.

When an ice storm hit my area and we lost power for 7 days, we couldnt go outside and we had no real sources of entertainment, my family just played Gameboy the entire time.

We used my friends NGage as a door stop in the garage for sometime.

I lack a cell phone as well.

I did a speedrun through pokemon blue version on my SP when going to Florida.

The ride was incredibly short with the power of pokemens.

I have a cell phone because I don't have a landline phone.

I use the DS as a flashlight, and sometimes I load it with Scribblenauts and use it as a conversation starter.

That never works, btw.
