insomnia, how do you deal with it?

Anyone suffer from insomnia and if so how do you deal with it?

I pay people to try and break in and then shoot them lol

Honestly, I have not found any succesful way of combating it. Scribblenaughts sure doesn't help and niether does Eva or cupcakes.

    Any suggestions?

Well, I would probably refrain from eating anything at least two hours from when you plan to go to sleep. Yeah, I understand that people get the idea of midnight snacking because they get a bit lethargic after eating a meal, but in reality it is the exact opposite of what your body needs. Having anything in your stomach causes your body to metabolize, which in turn elevates your heart-rate and makes it impossible for your body to reach a level of stasis required for actual rest.

Other than that, I guess I would suggest putting somewhat low volume music on in the background to concentrate onto if your mind has the tendency to start racing while you lay in bed.

                    um, I dunno.

let's change the topic before someone declares me the forum man-whore.

                    SO. ABOUT LACKING SLEEP.

                    SURE DOES SUCK. YUP.

I suggest snuggling up to a baldie with facial hair and transformers. That always puts me into a deep slumber.

-Limit the amount of things you do before you go to bed that stimulate your mind, i.e. don't look at a computer screen or watch tv 30 minutes or so before you try to sleep, don't listen to exciting music, don't have an interesting conversation/debate, etc.

-Focus your mind. Breathing exercises work - concentrate on breathing in, holding it in, then breathing out, each phase taking 8 seconds. This exercise won't put you to sleep, but by having a focused mind, your brain won't be as active, thus making it easier for you to do so. You could also make up a story in your head. This also helps you to focus, and the story is usually the last thing I remember thinking of. I've been creating/refining/adding onto/retelling the same story for almost ten years now whenever I have trouble sleeping.

                          -Relocate to a couch.

-Get relaxed. I have three playlists on my phone and two cds I call my "night mix" that contain real soft songs that put my mind at ease. That works for me. You might also try taking a warm shower - there's something about taking a warm shower at night that I find relaxing.

                          -Ejaculate.

If nothing else works, go online and complain about it. Or just pop in a dvd and listen to it as you lay on the couch with your eyes closed.

Darkness and white noise. I like to be as close to sensory deprivation as possible when I sleep.
