so. Blood Omen is on the Playstation Store.

    I never played it.

I've heard tons of good stuff about it. so I'm not asking if it's good or bad. because I know.

but what I want to know, does it still hold up? is it one of those games that was great for it's time, but has aged to the point of being near-unplayable if you didnt play it in the past?

I'll answer your question with a rhetoric. "Does Link to the Past still hold up?"

The PS1 version's biggest flaw was the load times. About two-three seconds just to navigate each menu. Other than that, the game is literally a 2D Zelda except you're a vampire and you can rip people's skin off and sneak in their houses to drain their blood and turn into a werewolf and dominate people to fight each other and rip people's heads off and throw spells that cause people's guts to melt into a pool of acid that melts other people that touch them.

PLAY IT AS A FAVOR TO ME.

I love the game. Just don't play it w/ the sound off, the amount of exposition that Kain gives during the game is staggering and awesome.

I need health, time for a brothel raid! VAE VICTIS!!!

I finally got around to playing this game earlier this year (someone gave me their copy for free two years back for whatever reason).

My immediate thought was that this game did not stand the test of time. I did not have fun with it.

Discussing my complaints with the game, one of my friends commented, "Blood Omen wasn't the good one, Soul Reaver was." Take that for what you will.

I preferred Soul Reaver 2 over Soul Reaver.

Meh. The long load times between each screen eventually got to me, also considering I got stuck fairly often.

It's got a really solid storyline and great music in it's defense.

Oh, and the voice acting rules. HAIL VICTOR!

Considering Alundra and Blood Omen are way better than ALttP I say "yes."

The game's tough, no doubt about that. You'll be doing a lot of running from monsters and you have all the vampire weaknesses like water and while you're immune to the sun you're definitely weaker outside during the day.

The game has a huge list of secrets and I still haven't explored all the moon activated portals. Time to fire this up again.

And the story is awesome. It's a shame Silicon Knights started on Too Human and abandoned the series to be aborted by Crystal Dynamics. Soul Reaver was a good game but I want to play as Kain in a huge, open world not Land of the Block Puzzles.

"Alas poor Nupraptor, I knew him well....well, not really."

Having just played through the game uh...hmm the summer Deathly Hallows came out and having a blast I say go for it, just be mindful of the frequent framerate drops when a lot is happening on the screen, and also the fact that the game is actually quite difficult.

And I happen to think Crystal Dynamics did a fantastic job with the series, even though none of the sequels really came close to being as good as the first soul reaver (but I do remember soul reaver 2 being the first game, and still one of the very few games that the ****ing lip syncing impressed the hell out of me on). I'd like to see them do another with the sensibilities of soul reaver in mind, but with Amy Hennig (story director) doing uncharted now who knows if that'll happen. And beside that Defiance was kind of a fitting conclusion to the series.

I should also point out this is probably one of the first times I got to tap into playing such an evil bastard in a game. I mean, Kain's motives are completely selfish, the rest of the world is just along for the ride.

All of them were the good one, except for Blood Omen 2. Blech!

Well, I can't speak for Defiance, I never played it. Never got to finish BO1 either, yet another reason to pick up a PSP.

How I loved this game. I never was able to finish the thing, though. Got stuck at this village that has the plaque. The amount of stuff you can do is nuts. This game still has the most brutal spells I've ever seen in a game. Just wish that the spells weren't limited (you know as in you can run out of them.) God, what I would do for a remake of this game.

I just love the series in general. Some of the best story telling and monologues ever. Though I do have a love/hate relationship with SR2. Wonderful storytelling, but damn does it have the single most annoying puzzles ever created. The combat wasn't the greatest either, but it wasn't exactly bad. Also the demons are hard as balls. Kind of funny how SR1 had a more enjoyable combat system and puzzles that didn't make me furious, but you could pretty much skip it storywise. The intro of SR2 pretty much sums up everything.
