PS2 RPG Must Play list

Before my old PS2 bites the dust and I replace it with a shiny new Playstation 3, I want to know everyone's opinion of some must play RPGs for the PS2, so I can check them out. Here's the best ones I've already played(and can remember):
All Final Fantasy
Rogue Galaxy
Grandia II
Odin Sphere
All dotHACK
All Kingdom Hearts
All Xenosaga
Shadow Hearts 1 and 2
Wild Arms 3
Star Ocean 3
All Dark Cloud

Soon as I get some money, I'm gonna up and bum-rush Gamestop.

I enjoyed the PS2 Shin Megami Tensei games I've played (Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga 1, Devil Summoner 2, Persona 3 and 4). You've listed some others I would have added to the list. It's hard to think of amazing rpgs and not keep thinking of the PS1 catalog.

Dark Cloud 2? Yeah. Dark Cloud 1? Don't waste your $4.

If you want to toss some strategy in your list pick up Gladius and Front Mission 4. The former game is pretty deep and largely ignored when it came out.

awful port. garbage. play it on dreamcast or don't bother.

I'd compare it to someone playing the god awful PS1 port of chrono trigger. its not the same experience.

Harping on that, every single city in Grandia II outside of the 1st one literally runs at 5 frames per second. At first I thought it was PS2 acting up and then I thought it was the cd. No, the devs must have directly emulated it or something I just don't understand how they saw the game running like a slide show (I'm not even exaggerating this, I used to FAQ to run through each town as fast as possible because it's nigh unplayable). How could anyone see something so terrible, kick their feet up, slam back a Dew and say "Ah, this is adequate work!"

You guys can stop freaking out now because Grandia 2 for the Dreamcast was the second DC game I ever bought! Besides Sonic Adventure, of course. I have played both versions completely, and quite enjoy the DC version better. I always had this major crush on Millenia too...

Shadow Hearts 1 and 2...never played, so can't comment.
Wild Arms 3...is this the one good one?
Star Ocean 3...I heard at least one of the Star Oceans was good...do not think it was this one, though.
All Dark Cloud...I heard the second one was good.



I'd recommend Disgaea (granted, it's an SRPG, but it's a lot better than some (most) of the stuff you listed), Gladius (another SRPG, but probably one of the most underrated games of the last gen), and, from the little I've played, SMT:Persona 3. Other than that, most of the RPGs I've actually played last/this gen are on the DS.


Oh, and don't forget RPGM3!!

Yeah, I'd skip the first Dark Cloud. Horribly unbalanced game coupled with dreadfully long and uninspired random dungeons.

Dark Cloud 2, though? It took everything wrong about the first one and did it right. And then added golf.

Also, Millenia was an all right chick, but Tio stole my heart. <3
