How are you feeling about the current gen of consoles?

things change over time. my opinions on the current gen have changed, and I'm wondering if yours have too.

    Nintendo Wii -
My first current gen console, I still love the thing. But it's getting really hard to. the virtual console was one of the things that made me love it in the years where retail games were lacking, and now that third party support has picked up, and wiiware exists, nintendo is completely ignoring the thing I wanted the system for most. last VC game I downloaded was majora's mask. WiiWare? uh... I have no idea! whatever, still happy I have it, still getting Metroid Prime Trilogy this week (I hope)

    Xbox 360 -
Wow. feelings have changed a lot on this one. I liked it when I got it. I got it because I was so ****** off at sony for getting back into the "we're ****ing idiots who dont know how to manage a business, or respect consumers" swing last year, which they thankfully pulled right out of almost immediately after I bought the 360.

I'll say it right now. I do not like the 360 much. right now, it's my least favorite current gen system. so much on the system just does not interest me in the least. 360 exclusive games arent visually interesting. the last 360 game I bought was fallout 3 in either january or february. I have five retail 360 games. compared to 10 retail games each for the PS3 and Wii. there isnt anything coming up for the 360 I want. next purchase for it will probably be mass effect 2. after that? I have no idea. My 360 has taken to starting up occasionally with the display offset on my screen. no idea what that means.

    PS3 -
My current favorite. yup yup. sony stopped being retarded, and I started buying games for it again. the upcoming PS3 exclusives are the only things I'm really excited about, other than muramasa for the wii. what a big change. still gotta sit down and play valkyria chronicles. dunno why, but I just stopped playing it and never bothered starting again.

    portables:

    DSi -
Oh, you lovable little bastard. got dr. mario for free, play it every night before bed. flipnote studio also for free is great. DS games still coming out, still wonderful. gotta get started on the layton series. you is my favorite always, DS.

    PSP -
Oh, I am SO GODDAMN EXCITED FOR THE RELAUNCH AND FINALLY GETTING SOME ****ING GAMES ON THIS THING. motorstorm, soul calibur, lbp, yes, yes, bring it, ****, its a month away still, god dammit. excited to see what devs do with the PSPminis. but yes, very excited to see what becomes of what has for the last two years been the "smudgey thing I play wild arms on".

buuuuuut... its still the stupidest ****ing thing in the entire game industry that the PSP has wifi, can play online games, but DOESNT. local wireless, or you gotta use the damn PS3. no excuse. NONE. if I can play mario kart and whatever the hell else on the ancient original DS FLAWLESSLY, the PSP should be able to do something. jesus christ. wait, no. the stupidest thing in the industry as far as I'm concerned, is that the 360's wifi adapter has the same MSRP as the playstation 2.

    other:

    PC-
    LOL.

    your turn.

      Wii

I like it and all, but I rarely play the thing. Most games have "waggle syndrome" in that they replaced a button press with moving the remote back and forth--which is ****ing retarded. My favorite game on the system is Zack & Wiki, because of the way they handled the remote in that it was an instrument for you to interact with the world. Everyone here who owns a Wii should check the game out if they haven't already. Some of the WiiWare titles are pretty great, like MegaMan 9, Toki Tori, and World of Goo.

      PS3

More like a glorified PlayStation 2, as I rarely play any PS3 games on it. MGS4 was dumpster, and that's what I bought the system for back in the day but I'm glad I got it when I did because I love the backwards compatibility. Uncharted was great. I need to get into Valkyria. Killzone 2 was good, but far from great. Haven't really been impressed with anything else on it though, in terms of exclusives.

      360

Don't own one, don't want one. **** paying MS to play videogames on-line, and none of the exclusives are interesting enough for me to warrant a purchases (sans Gears of War).

      DS

Best system of the generation. It's library is second to none, and I play it more often than any other system.

      PSP

I love it, and I'm glad that it's going to be given a second chance at life (I hope). I also haxx0red it, meaning that I can play all the games that should be on VC (Earthbound) on it and that's ****ing awesome, but I am usually too busy playing the DS to really give it much attention.

The only new gen console I have owned so far is a X360. I really enjoyed it, but sold it a half year later to get a PS2 again and all my favorite old games. It's just the funnest console to me. I'm a PS2 guy.

The current generation of games try to attain more and more realism in their graphics, and it's made them (in my opinion) odd looking, or uncanny. Something just seems off kilter when you're playing them, or something just seems missing. I don't know if I'm the only one who feels this way. I think the next generation of games will not have this problem, though. I guess I'll see.

Oh, and I've never owned any form of handheld system; they just aren't my thing.

          Wii
Haven't touched it in a while. I have Klonoa, Metroid Prime 3 and No More Heroes to play but Mega Man 9 still gets the most playtime whenever I notice it. Still waiting for Cave Story. Metroid Other M will probably be the next big buy. And yes, the Virtual Console is the grandest of disappointments.

          360
This has been getting the most attention out of the Big 3. Raiden Fighters Aces, Ikaruga, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, Doom, Puzzle Fighter HD, Gears of War... Netflix! Xbox Live Arcade is terrific. Too bad about that mushy controller though.

          PS3
Slowly beginning to respect this thing. It looks amaaaazing on our new HDTV. inFamous is pretty awesome, Street Fighter 4 is nice on it and I still gotta play Valkyria. Looking forward to most of the exclusives too and playing MGS3 and Ico is a big fat plus.

          PC
Valve games, Starcraft and any freeware (like Cave Story, La-Mulana and Vanguard Princess) that shows up. Too bad Blizzard had to kill PC gaming though! :V

          PSP
I don't go anywhere without it. Listen to music and podcasts on it and now Monster Hunter is eating my life away. Lumines and Space Invaders Extremes still get played. Looking forward to Valkyria 2, Peace Walker, and Persona 3 Portable. It's my constant traveling companion~

          DS
...This is too! GTA, Pokemon, TWEWY and a ton of other games. Been the best system for the past half-decade~

Re: How are you feeling about the current gen of consoles?

Wii - where's my Wii? I dunno. Someone has it.

            360 - I used to think I want one. I don't think that anymore.

PS3 - I like it. I don't think it was quite worth the money I spent on it, but I'm happier with it than the Wii. The only exclusives I've played that were wonderful were Folklore and Valkyria Chronicles because the story and characters were so charming. I loved the hell out of the most recent Prince of Persia but it wasn't an exclusive so whatever.

DS - Where's my DS? No idea. Packed away somewhere, unused, unappreciated. For no reason, cause there's all kinds of **** I wanna play on it.

PSP - Bought it so I could play Jeanne d'Arc and FFT: War of the Lions. And Crisis Core. I'm happy with those purchases.

So I guess I'm happiest with PS3 by virtue of Valkyria and Folklore.

Re: How are you feeling about the current gen of consoles?

              Wii
It started out with a good library, but then I really felt that Nintendo and 3rd party publishers for the system had abandoned me. The VC started out strong, but then they more or less abandoned it. The good titles for it do make the $250 price tag worth it, but I feel that the Wii has already died for me. I think MadWorld might be the last game I buy for it.
Favorite exclusives: No More Heroes, Twilight Princess, Wii Sports
Favorite VC games: Bubble Bobble, Bubble Bobble, Bubble Bobble

              PS3
My favorite console thus far. It's great for using RPG Maker because I don't have to worry about memory card space. Solid exclusives with more to come, free online play, and the lack of little boys cussing nonsense during online matches. I can tell there is still a lot this console can and will offer.
Favorite exclusives: Metal Gear Solid 4, Heavenly Sword, Uncharted

              Xbox 360
I don't own it, and I don't need it. With the widespread disease of multiplatformism, there are more than enough games I want to play for the PS3 than I can keep up with.

              DS
A great platform that continues to still pop out a Grade A game from time to time. The system and its games are very cheap, too, and it proves you don't need great graphics to make a great game.
Favorite exclusives: Trauma Center, Phoenix Wright, Phantom Hourglass

              PSP
Lots of unmet potential. Its library does have some real good exclusives, but I'm so tired of all these remakes and ports. You know there's something wrong when a remake is the next big game to get excited for. I mean, it's a good system, I guess. It's not must-have by any means, though.
Favorite exclusives: Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Crisis Core, God of War: Chains of Olympus
RPGM1 game: [Sexy Blues: Revenge of the Poo King]
              Game-in-progress: [Nazi Alex Trebek]

Re: How are you feeling about the current gen of consoles?

I have a Wii, PS3, DS, and PSP.

I never end up playing any of them and just play games on my PC. Which, to be fair, are almost improved ports from the consoles, RTS games (supreme commander), but most of all MMORPGS.

However it's mostly because I bought all the games I wanted for those systems (save a ton of crap for DS). Out of the consoles, right now I guess PS3 is getting the more lovin' if only because I played Dynasty Warriors on it for a long while. However, every time I buy a Wii Game I end up liking it in some way, I really have no idea why, but it's been a while since I have bought one.

Although Scribblenaughts may change my console habits later on, or if I get into more monster hunting on my PSP or Wii.

Oh, and Way of the Samurai 3 coming out later on this year (next month I think actually) being published by Agetec no-less.

But then Dragon Age Origins comes out and it's back on the PC for me

Top 2 favorites of most recent games played per system

DS- Transformers 1, Pokemon (I haven't bought a new DS game in forever)
                PSP- Monster Hunter, Crisis Core
                Wii- Rune Factory, SSB
                PS3- Dynasty Warriors 5 EMPIRES, Transformers 2
                PC- Champions Online, GTA4

Re: How are you feeling about the current gen of consoles?

DS - I first bought one around the time Nintendogs came out. Got that and Advance Wars. I liked it for a while but then got bored with those games and wanted to get rid of it. But then I started renting and buying new games and have loved my DS and later DS Lite ever since. My current DSL is in need of replacing and so far there's not enough good DSi Ware to make me hand over the extra $$$ to "upgrade".

360 - I bought one in December. Enjoyed it for a couple weeks. Got some of the games I had really been looking forward to. And quickly lost all interest in the thing. Before I got it I feared it'd end up just a DVD player that I occassionally stuck a game in like my PS2 was near the end (although I still loved it) but I hoped Xbox Live and demos would keep that from happening. Well the only game I've ended up playing online is UNO and a few rounds of 1vs100. Only big multiplayer game I have is GTA4 and there are very few that I'm even interested in. And it turns out my friends list is nothing more than a list of people who I got to add me to their list. All it's good for is seeing what other people are playing.

PS3 - Sony really ****** me off with their antics too but I didn't hold it against the system itself. It just didn't have enough exciting exclusives for me to warrant the higher price tag and BluRay was a non-issue since I don't have an HDTV. Now the price is down but I just don't care anymore.

Wii - I want one. There are more games I want for it than 360 or PS3. And that's not even counting GameCube and VC and a few WiiWare. Of all the games I know of coming out the two I most want to play are on Wii (Silent Hill Shattered Memories and Monster Hunter Tri). I just want/expect to enjoy it the same as DS, a system with a wide range of games that are mostly technically inferior but fun and some that take advantage of the unique control gimmick.

PSP - I'm interested in getting one. More for a portable media player than a game system but there are a good handful of games I want. If PSPgo was $200 or less I'd want one but $250? Forget that. I wish you didn't have to get a bundle to get anything other than black.

PC - Owning a 360 has made me want to finally get into PC gaming. Just about every game worth getting on 360 is on PC with modding and usually a lower retail price. Not to mention if you've got the hardware it'll look better as well. Being as I have a programming degree and theoretically plan to pursue some computer related career I feel I should know more about the hardware side and building my own gaming rig seems a good way to do that. Also when I get my own place I plan to forgo cable and just hook a computer to my TV to take advantage of all the programming available online for free. Lastly, I'm interested in seeing how the cloud gaming (onLive, GaiKai) thing works out.

Nothing this generation is as good as PS2 was.

Re: How are you feeling about the current gen of consoles?

Wii: Dumb. I haven't played it in a long time and there's little incentive for me to play it. I'll probably play it again whenever A Boy and His Blob, La-Mulana, or Cave Story comes out; whichever first.

Xbox 360: Fourth console and it RRoD'd on me. It used to make up the majority of my gaming but I'm fed up with this poorly designed piece of junk.

PS3: Until my 360 broke it saw absolutely no use after I beat MGS4. Now it's my main machine and I've started collecting blu-ray movies so it's not entirely a paper weight.

PS2: Half my backlog is ps1/ps2 games so yeah. Best system this gen lol.

PC: Majority of my gaming is done on this. Screw the naysayers, PC is still king.

DS: Eh. Like, nothing good came out this year except random Atlus games. Scribblenauts looks cool.

PSP: The only game I remember coming out this year that I bought was Prinny which was fantastic. Other than that it's a portable emulation station.

Re: How are you feeling about the current gen of consoles?

The Xbox 360 was my first current gen console. As with most people, I got it because I had a buddy who already had it, and the PS3 was too expensive (plus, without knowing what I do now, it seemed the 360 was the one console really looking toward the future).

I have a decent amount of games for it, but at this point, it's basically a Rock Band/Guitar Hero-playing device every 2 months or so. Most of the retail stuff does not interest me. I AM glad I have it for some of the XBLA stuff, especially Rez HD, Ikaruga, Braid, and a few others. Plus, if I begin working with IG Maker and want to upload to XBLIG, that kinda precludes NOT owning a 360. All in all, I play this about as much as my Wii, which is to say I don't.

The Wii was the last current gen system I bought. VC is okay, WiiWare has some decent stuff on it (especially the 2 FFCC:MLaa... games), and some of the retail stuff is decent, but it really just has no "Wow" factor. With a lot of the retail Wii games I've played, it feels like just going through the motions but with a new control scheme.

PS3 is, as everyone knows, my favorite current gen console, and it's been that way pretty much since I bought it. Got the 60 gig about half a year after it went out of production, and it's been my main console ever since. For an older gamer like me, the PSN games are a godsend, as a lot of them are just so different and are not the same thing I've been playing for the last 15 years. Better and better retail JRPGs too. Sure, the 360 has more of them, but most of those are subpar.

Add in the Blu-Ray/upconvert DVD player, internet browser, the SACD player and card reader (on the 60 gig), and I'm probably one of the few people using the system to its full capabilities. There are also no upcoming 360 exclusives that interest me (aside from the recently released Shadow Complex), but I cannot wait for Heavy Rain, and Uncharted 2, not even being my style of game, looks amazing.

Handhelds later...on bus on way to work.

Re: How are you feeling about the current gen of consoles?

Wii - Other than playing through Pikmin recently on it, I don't really play it that much. I did get Wii Sports Resort, and that IS quite fun, but I don't want to shell out the $20 on another Motion Plus, when I know my girlfriend and I would play it together maybe twice. When Wiiware and Virtual Console came out, I thought they were going to be awesome. Some of them are (the ones that aren't glorified minigame waggle collections), but I've now only bought Strong Bad Ep. 1, FF4 - After Years, FFC: MLaaK, and Secret of Mana. I'm starting to think the prices on VC games are too high.
At some point, I'm going to rent Zack and Wiki, Zelda: Twilight Princess, and Super Paper Mario, as those have been on my mind since I got a Wii.

360 - This is my usual gaming console. And really? I like it. Microsoft charges for online, but I bought a 13 month card for $30, and have mostly enjoyed playing Halo online. The only game I've bought at 59.99 retail price was Resident Evil 5, all other games (including Arkham Asylum) I buy at discounts. My favorite aspect of recent is XBox Live Arcade titles, as I've been playing a lot of MvC2, Shadow Complex, Magic the Gathering, etc. It's not everyone's bag, but people seem to forget about Mass Effect as a "console exclusive," and I really loved the game on PC. Bought it with a gift card for 360, and going to run through the game again in a little while.

PS3 - Don't own one, but glad they're starting to pick up speed with exclusives, and especially the price. Heavy Rain looks great, and I've always really wanted to try Valkyria.

PSP - I've never mentioned this, but I have put custom firmware on my PSP. And really? It's the greatest thing ever. I've ripped tons of my PS games to it, as well as freeware. And it's fantastic. I'm currently playing through Policenauts, Legend of Mana, and Cave Story.

PC - most PC games also come out on consoles (and sooner), and so what I once used as a console substitute now I mostly play freeware on.

DS - A lot of really attractive games for it. My sister owns one, and I beat Phoenix Wright on it, and thoroughly enjoyed it. But I have enough in my PSP that I feel if I got a DS, I'd never have the time to play it.

Re: How are you feeling about the current gen of consoles?

Wii - First console I got out of this generation. I was really excited about it at first... then the Virtual Console releases slowed down, the third party games pretty much never came and them's the breaks. I'm looking forward to getting Klonoa, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and maybe Metroid: Other M, but that's about it.

Xbox 360 - The second home console I got this generation. Got it because it could play HD-DVDs and all you guys had one, so I was curious about how this online gaming thing was. After sinking my teeth into the Xbox back catalogue and having some fun with Dead Rising and Mass Effect, it's stayed dormant for almost a year before I decided to try GTA IV. I'm really regretting renewing my Live Gold membership since I've come to realize I detest online competitive gaming. I can't think of any exclusives coming out for it that I want, and just may regret purchasing this system!

PS3 - Got it last, for Blu-Ray, FFXIII and MGS4. I had fun with MGS4 but I don't think I'll replay it for a long, long time. MGO is better off dead. I like having a good D-pad for Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection and the retro-themed PSN releases. Overall it gets a lot of play out of me, if I choose to sit down and do the console thing.

DS - I got it originally for Animal Crossing and now never touch that game. I have more games for it than I did for the GBA, so that's heartening. It's probably my biggest queue of games I own that I need to play on it, so it might've won this gen for me.

PSP - What a useless hunk of plastic. I got it originally for free, but traded it in for a PSP-2000 along the way. I thought I'd be playing FFT a lot more on it, but I got stuck in a bad place at the Gafgarion battle and can't make any headway. Lumines was nice on it, but with Lumines Live on Xbox and Lumines Supernova on PS3, I'm not sure I can call it a killer app anymore. I've mostly been forcing myself to finish Suikoden I on it lately, but with zero enjoyment. I might get the Persona remake next month, but I didn't like Persona 2's system, so I dunno. Biggest disappointment this gen.

DS-First console I got this gen. I still just have a blue phat and I used to play it a lot on campus, I admire the ambitious design but I'm just not a portable gamer. Last game I bought for it was New Mario Bros. when it came out. I got Pokemon Platinum but the game is just too damn slow for my tastes.

Xbox 360-It took me a long time of saving up money at work but I finally got an xbox 360 on black Friday one year. Within the next six months I had gone through 3 different ones, but that didn't matter to me, everything about the console was fun. The dashboard, how easy live worked, the controller. Once gears hit a month later I was officially hooked. It still gets a good amount of play from me especially for rock band 2 and live arcade. But I'm extremely ****** that the red xbox 360 I traded up to is still loud as ****. Its gotten the most playtime out of me and I usually pick up all multiconsole releases on it.

PS3-The PS3 I bought for MGS4 when it came out was the 40gig and was a gimped piece of **** that I barely touched except to play blu rays on during the last year. I finally found nice 60gig on craigslist and got that. Even with the **** model I admire the PS3 as the beautiful piece of hardware that it is, and there's still a good amount of games I need to check out. I just wish voice chat didn't feel like such a rare commodity on it. I'm playing it more.

Wii-Er...I bought smash brothers a year and a half ago on it and that's about it. Again, I admire the hardware but there's pretty much nothing I want, one day I'll pick up the house of the dead games.

                            PSP-Don't have one.
