I am Novak

So, pretty much my whole life people have seemed to prefer to call me by my last name, Novak, instead of my first, Erik. I was just passed in the hall w/ a "hey, how's it goin' Novak." This is very common. I always just wondered why people preferred to call me by my last name instead of my first.

My theory is that you have to stop breathing often when saying "hey Erik," or something similar, otherwise you can't hear the E. Either way it's kinda annoying, a little offputting, but I'm used to it. Still annoying.

I don't like my real name, so I use nicknames. You just need to come up with an awesome nickname for yourself.

Some people just have those last names that sound better than their first. Similar to thse names that you have to pronounce first, middle and last.

I have 4 names, and people have called me each of them.

I haven't minded unless I can't tell if they are talking to me or not...

edit - Hah, you're right about "Hey Erik"..I tried to say it and it's like "heyrrk"

also everyone i know that i call eric is annoying (i.e. Remote Control character), so maybe people are just trying to differentiate you from the annoying eric/k's they know

When I was a Freshman in high school I put my first and last initial, "JP," on my bookbag. Then for some reason people seemed to start calling me JP instead of Josh. Now it has stuck and when certain people call me JP I get offended. Other times though, I like it.

Always been called by my last name too. To many people shared my first name and it confused everyone.

People randomly started calling me, "Hollywood" a couple years ago. I'm really glad it didn't stick.

People called me Chevy in high school, because my last name is Chevalier, and they found it amusing.
