so im finally playing xenosaga

i got the game out of a walmart bargain bin a few years ago and after initially playing the opening training area i just didnt continue.

over the last few days ive been board and decided to sift through my game collection and lo and behold i found xenosaga tucked into the back. im only past the warlog or whatever its called but im suitably impressed. i enjoy the xenogears esq. combat system and the plot is ok. what really impresses me are the cut scenes. i just finished watching 23 minutes of uninterrupted cut scene - wow.

exploring tends to be tedious as i spent a great deal of time wondering through the massive environment talking to everyone and trying out all the minigames. though i definately now have to add the remaining two xenosaga games to my gaming list.

one thing that i dont get is how can people hate this game so much? is the second game a flop or something? is there going to be a part 4?

i guess im just a sucker for the sci fi genre and games like ocean blue prime my incurable thrust for more.

I'm a pretty big fan of this franchise.

The second one is pretty bad though, and you are best off youtubing videos catching the gist of it skipping on to 3.

Xenosaga 3 remains one of my all time favorite RPG's.

Kind of a shame noone really gave it a chance, because it was a very well made game.

The cut scenes were wooden, the character models were creepy and doll-like, the story kept taunting the player with the possibility of moving forward before the "LOL TO BE CONTINUED" ending and it can't even be forgiven as set-up for the meat of the story since the second game is basically an extended sidequest. Takahashi took his second chance at telling Xenogears' story and squandered it.

Oh, and the music in the two sequels suck ass.

I think most people don't like them because they were expecting Xenogears and it's not. I personally didn't like it because it felt like I was coming into the story halfway through and I don't think they did a very good job of presenting the story in a clear and concise manner.

As a game Xenosaga is about average. It tries to be grand, but appearantly whoever was at the wheel didn't put enough effort into doing so. So we end up with an average jRPG. Xenosaga II is... god, I think Biggie said it best. Honestly, you really can beat the game in 6-7 hours. The rest are annoying side quests. Really annoying and pointless. The game was so bad that I decided that was the last one for me. No more Xenosaga.

Yeah, that music ain't so hot. It's basically the same track that Yuki Kajiura has been making since... forever. Noir, .hack//SIGN, Mai Otome... it all sounds the ****ing same.

Xenosaga 3 is actually a pretty good game, it's just that the prerequisite of playing both prequels to understand anything going on in it is so awful it is simply not worth it.

It's like they really didn't know what they were doing with the entire series and just testing the waters each time and changing things randomly; the third time it worked out pretty well, but the whole series is an uneven mess because of it.

But hey if you make the mistake of playing through the first two games; you might actually have fun with it.
