    Rant topic?

I'm very bad at ranting. I'm probably just venting. So I'll use this topic to just get things out of my chest. You can keep ignoring it the same way you've been ignoring my updates all this time.
    _______________________________________________________________

I'm feeling so frustrated with my game right now and here are the reasons:

First: I don't know how to continue my game.
Most of the things I did earlier, I did them on impulse, I just went along with what I thought would be cool. Now that I'm thinking things through, I don't see how can I link what I did with what I want to do. I'm seriously reconsidering delete half my scenario data and do it over.

Second: I think I'm being too ambitious.
This is my first game. Sometimes I think that for my first game, I'm trying to do too much. I initially wanted a simple, fun game that at least I can enjoy, but now that it caught a few people interests, I feel that I must deliver everything I said I would, and it's overwhelming.
Should I go for a short, fun game that is pretty open, or should I have a more linear story and focus on a few of the characters I wanted to be playable? The thing is I want both.

    Third: Lack of feedback.
I'm aware that RM1 is OLD, but it's still discouraging to make updates, and ask what people think about it and get 0 response.

    Fourth: Time is running out
I was so confident I'll do some decent progress with Rincar, but so far I've only redone things. I'll start my Teaching Internship in 3 weeks and I don't know if I'll be able to even touch RM1 (or a playstation) when I do.

So, I don't k now when I'll finish Rincar. I'm feeling to upset right now to touch it, but hopefully I'll sort it out this week. If not, I guess I'll just work on something more simple (I have a few ideas already)

So there. I just wanted to get that out of my chest.

Man, I'm sorry I haven't offered much in the way of feedback for your game. Sometimes I don't know what to say, but I could still say something like 'keep at it...don't give up', something. It feels like a lame, canned response without something concrete to say about the story ideas or gameplay, but at least it's something. I know how hard it is to create in a vacuum.

I also know how frustrating it can be to reach a roadblock in your progress, but one thing I can say is that it's completely normal, particularly for a first game, and particularly when you make the game as you go. I learned a few tricks after making my first game such as working things out on paper more, but even then it's no guarantee that you won't have to completely rework parts of the game. I worked the same way you have on my first game. It's a GOOD way to work! ...It just causes some trouble sometimes when you try to tie everything together. It may seem like a lot of work, but when you consider that you might not have gotten ANYTHING done otherwise, it's not so bad.

So for whatever it's worth, I understand your frustration.

Re: I'm feeling really frustrated right now.

do not worry my friend, this is the bane of all developers.

ive spent an untold amount of time doing nothing more then editing. the only way to break this cycle is to rekindle your creativity. take a step back from your game, think of where you want to go and what types of transformations (integral plot bits) you want to happen. the answers will not always come to you right away, in fact you may even change what you have made at the last minute to incorporate some brain wave.

with that being said, i should also point out that its prudent to be picky when it comes to stuff you add to your game. we all would like to add every element from every game we have ever enjoyed, or demonstrate how great we are with the software. however, you have to pick which stuff that adds to your game and which stuff has no business being in it. perhaps some of what you have could be used later on? its better to change your events to fit your plot then it is to change your plot to fit your events. the stronger your plot, the better experience your game will be for the player.

as for expectations of your fan base, dont worry about us. just enjoy what you make and try to create the best game that you can. we will cheer you on regardless of how short or long you decide to make your game. we know its your first, and though an epic success would be an excellent start, we also understand that this is the rarity, not the norm. we are cheering not your prawress at the manipulation of the software, but at your prawress of your imagination. we know that you have potential which is why you are receiving the fan base.

never rush your game. its taken me 10 years to get a bloody demo out and other designers have spent multiple years crafting their magnum opus. even if you feel discouraged that people are not providing feedback, keep in mind that this is unfortunately now the norm. though people like myself come in to check out what you are doing, we may not have the time to reply or feel we havent the required words to make a response. look at the views, that is how you must gauge your feedback.

Thank you Ωbright for the sig fix!

Ah,I just need to vent a little bit
But yeah, I'm aware that I just can't add EVERYTHING I want, and now I'm trying to think more realistically.
I do want to enjoy what I making, after all that's my rule number one (Have fun!) so I'll just go at my own pace. I just fear that I slow down so much that I end up taking another 7 month break.

I can definitely relate to your frustrations. I have a tendency to work on the seat of my pants. Sometimes it gets me into a corner, but other times I feel it brings out my best work. We all realize these are DEVELOPMENT threads. Things always change during development, and it’s fine to change/edit/cut things by the time the game is released. Just do what feels right. And everything else they said.

I never really said thanks for those encouraging words. Thanks!
Well I kind of got over it. I decided to go with what I really liked, and not what I thought people would like.
And after submitting the demo, and seeing no interest from the community in checking out (and I'm aware it doesn't even know who I am, so why there should be any interest), I'm glad I decided to go with what I wanted, since in the end (whether it get 0, 3 or a gazillion views) I'm the one that is supposed to enjoy it the most.
I'm still bummed that I won't finish it before January 20, so I just I hope I get to work on it from bit to bit, until it's finished, and try ti just have fun along the ride.

              Re: Rant topic?

OK, so what is needed to get people's interest in checking the stuff you made?
              Good story?
              Nice features?
              Original Ideas?

Because I'm beginning to think that none of that matters at occasions. If you are some random guy who decided to join the forums to announce your game, people won't care because they don't know who the hell you are.
Now, I'm not saying my game is the awesomest thing ever created in the known universe.
              I know RM1 is OLD
I know people doesn't necessarily like to leave feedback.
I know I only uploaded the demo like 4 days ago.

But still, I was kind of hoping to see at least a few attachment views on the submission forum. (Probably half the views in the topic are mine, BTW. )
So, how to get people interested, without begging, or harassing them to play my demo?

If you just jumped to this last sentence, I'll just sum it up for you:

I for one know who you are, Guar, but only because I visit the mag on occasion, too. But unfortunately, I've no way to play RPGM1 games, unless they are in the PS3 format, and even then, I rarely even play the RPGM games on the site anymore, let alone make my own.

Wish I could give you more support than this, but I'll suffice it to say, good luck and just keep plugging away. I think it'll be wothwhile in the end, regardless of how many downloads you get.
