    Your Favorite Vidya Gaem Tunes

    http://www.gametrailers.com/player/41663.html

Top 10 Best Video Game Music List. One track per franchise.

We can poke fun at this ****ty list (though there are some inspired choices) but I'm much more interested in yours, fellas. I wanted to do this topic since I read ScrewAttack was gonna do this.

So let's also keep it at one track per franchise so variety can (hopefully) happen and be kind enough to provide YouTube links. Write why too. How you feel when you hear it, what you do when you remember it, what the circumstances were when you first heard it. Think about this!

So, your ten favorite vidya songs. In descending order, random order, whatever. Sniping each other's fun but letls keep things civil. Let's be cultured music connoi.... connosuh... carnosaurs.

This is going to be a lame post because it would be impossible for me to pick ten without a lot of them being generic entries that kind just go without saying. But I will say that I'm more partial to video game music that's more ambient then fanfare. I definitely agree with Donkey Kong Country being on the list even though it wasn't an obvious choice, because a lot of the video game music at the time was all fanfare and Donkey Kong Country seemed to go the more ambient route and I think it gave the game a neat ambiance.

Anyways, heres my favorite video game theme, it's the forest maze from Super Mario RPG. I like it because it sounds whimsical, almost festive.

Sorry I couldn't pick ten. But I think I would have selected one from "Star Ocean: The Second Story" if I could put my finger on; and find the one I'm thinking of.

I've liked the music from a lot of games, but the standout favorites (that is, the ones where I'm completely aware of the fact that it's not pure sentimentality or love for the game itself that makes me love the music), are few.

      - Albert Odyssey

I couldn't believe it the first time I heard the music for this game. It set a standard to me for game music that sadly was not lived up to in later releases very often. This is probably my favorite track:

      Overworld Theme 1

If anyone wants to hear more tracks from the game, the entire soundtrack is here.

Sure it helps that I played the game and loved it, but even if I didn't have that sentimental attachment to it, I would still love the strings and arrangements of these songs. When I hear them, I'm instantly flying over mountainous Japanese forests shrouded in mist. Every time.

Other than that, my favorites would probably be:

      Suikoden 5 -
      Disgaea -

*continues looking for links THAT ARE STREAMING, AND NOT HIDEOUSLY SCARY*
      *gives up*

Yeah, that list had a pretty bad top 3, I love the Duke but I don't think the soundtrack in his game was particularly strong.

I guess here's my list; a lot of the songs are going to be from around the turn of the millenium, I never really got all worked up over 16 bit themes.

*Damn Gloomy I was gonna put that Friday the 13th tune up there but I can't find a good link with it*

        10. Elemental Master-Level 4 I guess?-Elemental master was a top down shoot em up for the genesis that had you playing as a wizard on foot instead of a spaceship. It was very ANNE MAAYYY but I liked it. I wouldn't pop this in my car and listen while I'm driving but when I was younger I thought this soundtrack was kickin'. Sorry about the bee boo boo boops from the guy actually playing though.

        9. Tekken 2-The Headshaker (Yoshimitsu's stage)-When I used to take martial arts, the teacher played this song during work out once. He was an old chinese man that usually played Queen and Metallica during lessons, so I guess this is just as odd. Btw it turned out he was a con artists. I still work out to the song on occassion (lo-****ING-L, RIGHT?!).

        8. DKC2 - Bramble Scramble-**** all the guys here that don't like donkey kong country because it isn't Super Metriod.

        7. Metal Gear Solid song when you're seen blah blah blah-'Nuff said.

        6. Resident Evil-Guardhouse Dormitories-This song reminds me so much of Friday the 13th.

        5. Sonic Adventure-Emerald Coast-It was September 9th, 1999. And no day would be the same.

        4. Castlevania: Symphony of the Night-Lost Paintings-Very hard to pick a song from this game so I just chose the one already uploaded to my website.

        3. Silent Hill 2-Promise-All of the Silent Hill games have good soundtracks but aside from the 1st game none of them really had themes that worked so well. Promise from the ending of Silent Hill 2 where the protagonist further denies his past and accepts the eerie temptations of the town is a great example of one of these themes. It has a longing sound that represents trying to find your hope in your own delusions and is exactly as haunting as it needs to be.

        2. Shenmue-Shenhua

        1. C'mon you know what this is.-This is going to go in for my Final Fantasy entry, oh well.

I really don't have many real unique choices.

          Mario Theme:

          Zelda Theme:

          Tetris Theme:

          MArio Underground Theme:
          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SmqSWRF1x-k

I'd do more but I can't find any more people playing them with silly instruments.

Re: Your Favorite Vidya Gaem Tunes

I guess I'll go the Gloomy route and post obscure songs that I love.

                  Phantasy Star 4 - PS 1 Arrangement
This song makes me want a real Phantasy Star sequel so bad.

                  Shadowrun (Genesis) - Title Theme
Short, simple... for some reason this song established the whole distopian theme of the game for me.

                  Alundra - Kline's Dream
I guess ice level songs are ALWAYS awesome.

Mega Man X - Storm Eagle
The song only lasts like 30 seconds, but I think it's a classic.

Legend of Mana - City of Flickering Destruction (Jumi City)
Maybe it's just me, but this song is so gorgeous and sad it makes up for everything bad in Legend of Mana. I hate that Yoko Shimomura practically only does Kingdom Hearts **** now, but I've always considered this soundtrack her best. Do yourself a favor and listen to some other tracks from it, or buy the soundtrack.

I just found out some retard also posted it on Youtube as a song from Halo 2. ****.

Dark Cloud 2 - Stella Valley
The forest theme from this game is also good. Rogue Galaxy's soundtrack sucked though.

                  Sonic 3 - Hydrocity Act 2
Every song (MINUS THE CARNIVAL SONG) for Sonic 3 and Knuckles is awesome. I pity everyone who didn't have a Genesis. Thanks Michael Jackson!

Final Fantasy 5 - Big Bridge (Battle with Gilgamesh)
                  durr hurr.

                  Phoenix Wright - Cornered
Phoenix Wright only worked because of the drama and back and forth inherent in the story, and this song was critical for that.

                  Wild ARMs Intro
                  self explanatory

jesus, I have more than this I could think of. Gloomy took all of my NES themes though

Re: Your Favorite Vidya Gaem Tunes

Napple Tale - Dreams in a Pie
This song makes me wants to play this probably ****ty Dreamcast 3D side scroller. It just feels so innocent and charming and cute... just like how I imagine Napple Tale to be!!!

                    Vagrant Story - Staff Roll
Probably the classiest piece of music Square's ever produced to the classiest game Square's ever produced. This song was a total reward for beating the game and it somehow manages to distill everything I like about the game into sound. It's really uncanny.

Final Fantasy VIII - Ending Theme

This is like Uematsu said to himself, "**** it, I'm actually going to care about the arrangement of my music" and crafted the best medley of FF themes ever. It helps that the images that go with it touch my heart~~

Xenogears - Small of Two Pieces
After 70 hours of playing this and tons of emotional and intellectual investment, this song justified everything I achieved in this game and all the exquisite beauty of the romance therein. Mmmmmmmmmfff.

Chrono Cross - Scars of Time
I must have replayed the trailer for this game about a billion times on the bonus disc that came with Vagrant Story. Summer of Adventure, indeed. The song was I think one of the first I ever downloaded from the internet. The song makes me feel so sad and determined, almost ruminating on past failures and how I will correct them!!

Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty - Can't Say Goodbye to Yesterday
I can't say I regarded this song much the first time I played the game, but years later I went through a serious urban noir phase and this song was reintroduced to me and I fell in love with it. I still am in love with it! When I replayed MGS2 and listened to it swell into 5.1 glorious channels, I was truly content. I feel like I'm standing in the middle of a city drizzled with rain, wearing a fedora and wearing a trenchcoat~~

Shadow of the Colossus - Epilogue ~ Those Who Remain
OH GOD WHY DID IT HAVE TO END THAT WAY

Ragnarok Online II - Din Don Dan Dan

I first heard this on a crappy Youtube trailer for the game and was floored by the tiny sample that it gave me. I obsessed about it for months until I finally got a leaked rip from the game. I feel like I'm truly transported to a warm, adventurous fantasy world when I hear this.

                    Silent Hill 3 - You're Not Here
When my copy of SH3 came with the OST, I was a bit skeptical. SH music was kinda neat, but not listenable on its own, in my opinion. This OST changed my mind in the second track when it turned into a mournful rock song. Mary Elizabeth McGlynn's vocals are just perfect to convey the gritty, strained emotions.

Legend of Mana - Song of Mana
This is another pic from the Summer of Adventure. The first half of the song is so melancholy, enhanced by the haunting (Portuguese?!) vocals. Then it totally turns into a Celtic celebration that would bring a tear to Yasunori Mitsuda's eye. This was, seriously, I think, the first song I ever downloaded from the Internet and it takes me back to a state of innocence and jubilation. {:3

                      10. Bubble Bobble - Main Theme
                      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZGWZlR3Kgr8

This one is kind of a classic, and Bubble Bobble is one of the first games I played so I sure as hell remember it.

                      9. Lunar: The Silver Star (Sega CD Version) - Intro
                      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v1BNr1UVLAo

Yes, it's extremely cheesy. It always just got me pumped when I was starting the game. Plus, back in the day I was like, WHAT? VOCALS?

                      8. Disgaea - Lord Laharl's Hymn
                      http://www.ultrace.com/uost/mp3s/Dis...9;s%20Hymn.mp3

All I could ever think about in the castle was how much of a bumbling idiot everyone in the castle should be, yet, Laharl is the one who doesn't know anything.

                      7. Donkey Kong Country - Title Theme
                      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrOsS3EV_lA

I only chose this one because I think it sums up the music of the game better than any other singular track. All of the music in Donkey Kong Country was so cool at the time, and the rap from the second one was awesome.

                      6. Ace Attorney: Phoenix Wright Justice For All - Pursuit
                      http://nardi11011.org/GSsoundtrack/P...red%202002.mp3

Game has heart. What more can I say?

                      5. Katamari Damacy - Katamari on the Rocks
                      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WwyfeksaeG8

Simply, I think the music for this game was fun, and I think that even in the music this game was unique and original.

                      4. Phantasy Star IV: End of the Millenium - Red Alert (Fighting Zio, usually)
                      http://www.fantasyanime.com/phantasy...ed%20Alert.mp3

I think some of the effect is lost without experiencing this in game. Part of the magic was just how it fit so snuggly. It was a kind of creepy theme for this religious zealot villain in a sci-fi kind of RPG. It was awesome.

                      3. Renegade - Level 3
                      http://midi.thehylia.com/midifiles/n...de/level-3.mid

I don't know many people who've heard of this game. Even less people remember the music. I always loved Renegade's music because it was just so jumpy, so fast, so upbeat.

                      2. Chrono Cross - Scars of Time
                      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=laMvJf9UNdc

Just barely beating out the Beach of Dreams, the Alternate World theme. Chrono Cross has some awesome music, but this piece gets exciting.

                      1. Tecmo Cup Soccer Game - Player Theme (Immense Velocity)
                      http://share.ovi.com/media/Postulate...ulateMan.10003

My childhood favorite. I always thought the intro sounded kind of like Eye of the Tiger and I loved it. I think the music worked really well in the game and garnered a great player response.

                              10. Shadow Hearts: FTNW - Dead Fingers Talk(battle theme 1)(one of the most unconventional and cool battle themes I've heard)

                              9. Wild ARMs - Overworld theme (yes, I know this sounds a LOT like "Ecstasy of Gold", but yeah.)

                              8. Legend of Mana - The Wind Sings of a Journey (this one stayed in my head long after playing the game)

                              7. Doukutsu Monogatari (Cave Story) - On to Grasstown (I love this! It's so bouncy and upbeat, perfect for shooting jellyfish to.)

                              6. Earthbound - Pokey Means Business (I love the transition from 8-bit sound to sludgy metal)

                              5. Valkyrie Profile - Fighting the Shadowy Gods (Hearing this and the usual "To my side, my noble Einherjar!" always got me pumped.)

                              4. Silent Hill 2 - Promise(the version heard at the beginning) (in a game filled with lonely and desolate music, this one struck me as being full of longing and sadness.)

                              3. Chrono Cross - Another World theme (simply beautiful, I wasted a lot of time while playing CC just listening to this one.)

                              2. Dragon Quest VIII - Overworld theme (easily THE standout track from the game, and with all the time the player spends in the overworld, I could not think of a better song to travel to.)

                              1. Breath of Fire IV - Landscape (this song evokes such a feeling of calm in me. It's just so wonderfully soothing.)

EDIT: Changed my list up, since I guess we're supposed to be doing "one per franchise". I also added reasons why I picked them.
