more than 10 characters in a town!

Do you want to make a huge town with lots of people but hate being limited to 10? here's an idea! It may be time consuming and eat up space, but oh well.

First, create 2 duplicate towns (I chose 2 "good castles"), Identical in every way. Name 1 'townA" and the other "townB".
Second, in townA, create Weapon and Item shops and place them in either side of the entrance. Now, create duplicate "normal houses" in the EXACT (or almost exact) same spots in townB.
Third, in townB, create Inn and Sanctuary buildings on either side of the castle entrance. Now, create normal house duplicates in the EXACT (or almost exact) same spots in townA.
Fourth, place a line of doorrless buildings (the first one) aligned perfectly across the middle (whatever you deem the "middle") of both towns, with the short ends facing each other, leaving small space barely big enough to walk through. create a bunch of invisible "touch' events in these openings. leave these events alone for now.
Fifth, place a bunch of other buildings in both towns, with buildings in only the front of townA and only in the back in townB. Be sure to take the time to place duplicates in townA matching the ones in townB, and vice versa. this is no doubt the longest step.
Sixth, go to the invisible events in townA and place warp events that warp the player to townB, several feet from the "matching" invisible events in that town. Now do the same for townB's events.
Lastly, sprinkle in all your NPCs.

    I hope this helps people.

This feels suspiciously like a post from nerd god... but at any rate, it's a good idea. People playing your game will KNOW what you're doing, but they will still appreciate it if you need more than 10 people outdoors (and can somehow fit that many with all the buildings in the middle).

Doh! I forgot to mention you have to rename the two towns the same name! And by the way, I don't even know this nerd god fellow.

Check out his posts, specifically the ones that he's posted in the RM3 workshop. He posted these kind of ideas here a lot, and I thought the style and grammar seemed very, very, similar... it's like the "second coming of nerd god," and that simply amused me.

At any rate, thanks for the cool idea in this thread.

This is also number 23 on the list of tips and tricks.

Is Nerd God THAT bad a guy? Should I ignore him?

Couldn't you just spend a lot of time on one town and then copy it and delete anything you didn't need out of it so that you wouldn't have to spend so much time making sure that it was a perfect duplicate?

              Just a thought though...

No, he's not a bad guy at all, I like him. But I've noticed enough similarities between you both in the content and style of your posts, in your pictures, in the games you hint that you like... I'm convinced you guys are the same person. Or brothers. Or long lost twins.

Oh, hey, that's a good point. Make a town, duplicate it, then go to each "half" and delete the stuff on the other side that won't be seen (to save space), THEN insert the people to each half.

I like the suggestion of placing a row of buildings down the middle, at least.

I had a look at Nerd god's statistics and stuff. He seems very.........familiar....

I don't think you can copy a town in that way. When you copy it, it's just the name and description. Whatevers inside the town won't get copied.

I'm almost sure I've copied a Field Map before, but come to think of it, I've never tried to copy a town before. Can anyone confirm this?

Yeah, you can copy a field map. I've done it a bunch of times, but any towns, decrotives, etc... don't come with it. I'm assuming it's the same with a town. Like 99% sure.

Yep, if that's the case, then it should be the same for Towns, which of course have no adjustable terrain. So it's back to the "exact copy" idea, then. And then we're talking massive DU usage, though again, it's worth it if you can spare the DU.

I know for a FACT that copying a town will only copy the town's stats, etc, and nothing placed in it. I've needed to do this a few times, and ended up painstakingly writing down the coordinates of EVERY friggin' building I had placed in the original, and then opening up the new town, and manually placing identical buildings in the exact same positions in the new town. It was a MAJOR pain in the ass.

Which begs the question...why even bother giving you the option to clone a town, when you could just as easily or quickly create another town of the same type from scratch, and adjust all the settings manually? There are only a finite number of them, and it would not take THAT long to change them by hand. Placing identical buildings in identical positions in the cloned town, however, takes forever and a day.
