X-Files - I Want To Believe (It was great)

I'm stoked! Are there any other X-Files junkies in here?

For those of you that didn't see the series finale back in 2002 (shame on you) here is a very brief recap:

    *** SPOILERS ***
Mulder returns to the series after an extremely crappy season 9. He breaks into a government conspiracy to find the "truth" and finds it, but a military guard tries to kill him. To defend himself, Mulder throws the guard off of an upper floor and he gets electrocuted.

Mulder is arrested and held in military prison. The guard that he fought ended up being a super soldier which was supposedly unkillable, meaning that Mulder didn't kill anybody, but the military isn't convinced and puts him on a trial for his life.

The court battle comes up as an excuse to have an extremely annoying X-Files clipshow extravaganza of all the scenes from previous seasons. After the grueling to watch clipshow/court case, Mulder is sentenced to death.

Mulder escapes and runs away with Scully and after some scenes its revealed to Scully that the truth Mulder found was the exact date of the alien invasion. They talk about how they shouldn't give up hope, and, the end. Mulder is a fugitive, Skinner is seen going into the office of an FBI employee that is actually an alien replacement despite being warned by a geeky kid, and there is no closure whatsoever.

    *** END SPOILERS ***

Needless to say, the new X-Files film has a lot of explaining to do, and I have high hopes for it. Who else is seeing it?

I ahrdly even remember what the first movie was about!

I want to go see this one though. I loved Xfiles back in the day before Dagget or whatever his name was replaced Mulder.

The first movie took place between the season finale of season 5 and the season premiere of season 6. You can rent it at most rental stores for a buck now days.

You forgot the adobe explosions and the final scene in bed.

I thought the movie was about a priest and Mulder "wants to believe" him and it has nothing to do with the alien invasion mythology.

its not tied to the ongoing plot though, so throw away those expectations for closure. it's like one of the one-shot episodes.

I actually didn't forget, I was getting tired of typing stuff.

It doesn't, it's in the spirit of the "monster of the week" episodes from seasons past. There is no reason to do another movie about the alien conspiracy, Mulder and Scully already found the truth, what would be the point? Also, if they followed the story arc of the 2012 alien invasion, the franchise would be over and there would be no room for more movies since that's the ultimate end, so they had to do a non alien related story.

The new movie is more than just what you mentioned, it's basically moreso about Scully and Mulders lives, where they are in their lives since the six years that's passed after the series, and their relationship. The X-File that goes on in the story is there to further emphasize their strengths and weaknesses and make them stronger for what's coming later.

I'll have you know that his name was Dogget, and that it was Robert Patrick AKA the T-1000. Grab a chair if you feel dizzy, you just got big timed, little man
Find a dog, honk it's nose. If you are bothered by this sentence. I guess you're just not cool enough for the noses.

why a movie 6 years later? just seems like a bad idea.

edit: i agree with mora, it wont do well.

Well, it's going to do horrible because it's seen very little advertisement at all. Just news blogs and stuff for the nerds out there. It'll likely be third or fourth box office this weekend, which doesn't mean much other than it made a suitable amount of money.

I might go see it with the same friend I saw "fight the future" with. But I'll probably just check out the new Hunter Thompson documentary instead.

I disagree, there are enough X-Files fans to push this movie near the top. I don't know if it will beat Dark Knight or not but us fans have been waiting a LONG time for this.

The movie was supposed to happen a year after the series ended. There was a big lawsuit with Fox that had to be settled first before the movie was given the green light.

Could have fooled me, the trailer is advertised on TV somewhere around 3-4 times an hour. (At least over here).
