I had a great three day weekend due to the holiday, very refreshing. The family and I went to the beach as well as Stepping Stone Falls in Flint MI to have some much needed rest and relaxation. (If you're on Myspace, I have pics up, if you want to see them).
Anyway, I was to return to work on Monday which I was more than ready to do after having much needed rest. When I got there, I was greeted by my supervisor, pulled into the HR office, and fired. All I could of was "Why?" and I was told that by law they don't have to give me a reason. What the hell?
As I've posted here before, the company I worked for was going through hard times. There were three waves of layoffs, and half of the plant was closing down. Being the dedicated person that I am, I stuck with it. At one point the other IT Technician in my department was moved to a non IT related position, so since I was the only IT person for the whole company, I wasn't worried about job security. Besides, no one else in the whole company knows how to manage the Linux web server at all.
In fact, no one else there even has the hardware knowledge that I do. I was rarely ever late, and out of the three days I missed during my entire time there, two of those days were excused due to needing time off for the birth of my son. Suffice to say, my attendance was almost perfect.
As far as other things, I helped out everyone in the plant as much as I could, even going as far as to check on everyone several times a day to make sure everyone had everything they needed, even if what they needed wasn't IT related. For example, when one department had several people call in, guess who volunteered to scan parts? Yeah, that's right, me. Whether it was related to my job or not, I gave everyone the best customer service I was able. I wasn't even like most IT dudes, I never blamed problems on the user.
So I'm rather confused, how is the company going to go on without a single IT technician? I REALLY hope they call me asking me questions on how I did stuff. I'll be informing them of my off site service charge of $50/hr with a one hour minimum. I know they will be calling me asking for help too, they always do with other people they let go.
I learned my lesson, if your company is going down or declining, get the hell out of there. I was too dedicated for my own good, I guess that's the type of person I am.
And to top it off, my last paycheck wasn't even for all the hours I worked.
I get unemployment though, so I'll probably just relax for a week or however long it takes me to find something else. I'm not going to be lazy with my unemployment or anything, I'm already looking for a new job.
I'm rather ****** off but at the same time I'm calm, the Christian side of me of course is faithful that something else is planned for me. Things always work out in the end.
Sorry to rant, I apologize if this was dragging on too long.
