    Warhammer: Age of Reckoning

So has anyone been keeping tabs on this game?

I used to play the tabletop fantasy game, and when i lived in Alaska, where there is nothing to do, i spent like over a grand on figures.

Ive been following this for a bit over a year now and have to say that im pretty damn excited for it. Im totally burnt out on WoW and have been looking for something to fill that space.

I know that at first glance it does seem to look alot like WoW but really if you read about some of the things that they have going on, it really stands apart very well. its RvR (like DAoC) and if anyone is familiar at all with the warhammer universe its going to be dark and brutal. One of the things im most looking forward to is the Tome of Knowledge. This is something that every player has and it keeps track off all your accomplishments in the game. this is a link to an FAQ that helps explain this:
    http://www.tentonhammer.com/war/faq/

that website also has alot of interviews and media that you can check out.

    this is Junes monthly newsletter:
    http://www.only-war.com/modules.php?...article&sid=79

    official website:
    http://www.warhammeronline.com/

    G4 appearance:

and video time, all of these are from closed beta and are capped at medium settings with no extra lighting effects:

ign has some real good quality vids too:
http://pc.ign.com/dor/objects/748723...os_062008.html ---just click the video links on the right hand side.

So am i the only one, or are there any WoW converts out there?

    Re: Warhammer: Age of Reckoning

Well, I am pretty burnt out on WoW, but I think I'll wait to see if this can find its place in the MMO community before I get excited about it. Too many of these games look promising, but end up flopping.

    It does look promising, though.

I check the Warhammer Online Wiki routinely, it looks like it will be a good game...

I'll check to see how it does against WoW AND Age of Conan.

Hopefully the game's actually finished when it's released, unlike Age of Conan.

My buddies said the demo at Origins was disappointing. I'm still hopeful. Love the tabletop and the universe in general.
Took me 15 minutes to remember how to change my signature, and this is all I came up with.

so i found this screenshot of a disciple of khaine, which is the healing class for the Dark Elves. this is probably one of my favorite screenshots so far:

game launches September 18th. if you preorder the regular edition then you will be invited into the open beta at the beginning of september along with a live game headstart. if you preordered the collectors edition make sure to register your codes because you will be invited into closed beta next week

                          Re: Warhammer: Age of Reckoning

I've been playing the open beta as a goblin shaman.
Know how all those screenshots looked like WoW, and all of the UI and stuff also looked like WoW?

                          Yeah, that's what it is.

I've only gotten to rank (level) 7 of 40, but so far the whole interface feels like if somebody made a mod for World of Warcraft. Playing a shaman is similar to playing a warlock, only you can heal, too! Quests range from "find this" to "kill this" to "talk to this." All your quests are listed on the right side of your screen, with details if you hover over them. They dole out experience, money, and sometimes your choice of an equipment/item reward.

You get talent points at level 11, which you can invest in one of three trees. Sound familiar?

The only battleground I've played so far revolves around teams holding a flag for a certain amount of time to capture that base, and then after garnering enough points they win. Players are rewarded with "renown" (honor) which has its own level bar; the more you level up, the better stuff you get, etc.

So, if you don't like WoW, don't even bother.

HOWEVER, Warhammer does try to improve on everything that WoW does. Many of the quests I've done so far were neat (such as a catapult launching you onto a dwarven base) or mildly humorous (such as rustling naked dwarves out of barrels and killing them). There is, of course, collision detection active in battlegrounds and RVR (which means players can't walk through one another), but this has made pretty much no difference in these early battlegrounds I've played, where everyone is solo and their strategy is "KILL THAT GUYYYYYY"

Battlegrounds DO adjust your level if you are too low, however, which is a nice thought.

Shamans get at least one new ability every level, which to me is a big improvement over WoW. It keeps things very interesting and fresh every time you level, but I could see it getting hard to handle when you're level 40 and you have literally 50 different abilities.

The best addition I think is the Public Quests. Basically, there is a sort of ongoing quest in many areas, with different stages. You don't even have to be in a group to do them. As long as you're contributing to these quests (with heals, damage taken or damage done) you earn "points" of some kind, as well as "reputation" with the locals. The quests are concluded usually with a boss. After you kill the boss, the game then rolls everybody who helped for loot. The more "points" you earned, the more chance you'll actually get something (because only the top 5 or so rolls earn loot). But even if you don't get any loot, you can still use the "reputation" to get some pretty good unique greens from town.

                          Tl; dr: Budding WoW alternative.

I bought AoC due to the hype, only to see it sucked horribly. I won't be making the same mistake twice.

Not to mention i just got into WotLK beta.

                            And I'm damned if I do and I'm damned if I don't

                              Re: Warhammer: Age of Reckoning

Translucid pretty much summed up my thoughts on the game. The PVE in the game is pretty bad, from what I can tell, but the most fun I had in the beta was playing a healer and just leveling through PVP. So if you just want to kill other players instead of killing internet dragons, this might be a better alternative to WoW.

On the other hand, the game is still kinda buggy and doesn't have anywhere near the amount of polish WoW has (which makes sense, considering WAR isn't three years old). Also, I have no idea what the endgame is like; it might be atrocious and boring, and the fact that they cut four classes and four major cities still leaves some lingering doubts in my mind, but at least what I've played so far is better than Age of Conan. I'll probably keep my preorder and play the free month, and see what I think then.

But it's not like anything can ever break the terrible spell WoW has over me. \:3
