New Mortal Kombat info.... (MK vs DC???)

Basically the next MK will use the unreal engine. Midway is supposed to give out some info soon, or at least tomorrow.

    gamespot link

and Noob.com with a blurry pic of scorpion. THe words say "Embargo lifts tomorrow". He's obviously knocking something out of the way, but I can't tell what it is.

All we can do is hope they actually make the 3D mortal kombats, ya know, fun.

I really liked how Deadly Alliance was handled. It had potential if they worked on it, but Deception and Armageddon did absolutely nothing to improve the game play. Armageddon actually took away some things to make the game worse (3 fighting styles each lowered to 2 fighting styles for every character in the series which ended up making them all play so generic, and original fatalities removed in favor of lame create-a-fatality).

    *edit*

According to MK Online, it's a crossover game. And that thing scorpion is hitting might very well be the god damn batman.

Mortal Kombat 8 is Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe
04/18/2008 12:00 AM :: Posted at 12:00 AM EST by DArqueBishop

Today, Midway Games confirmed what had been rumored for a while: the first next-generation Mortal Kombat title, up until now called "Mortal Kombat 8" by the community, is officially titled Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. As the title suggests, it will be a crossover with the characters and setting of DC Comics. Further information about the game should be forthcoming.

In the meantime, a source within Midway sent us this image, which is the first promotional image from Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe; it features two of the characters from the game: Sub-Zero and Batman.

Yeah, I've lost all hope for this series now.

First Soul Calibur v Star Wars, now this? I never expected Snake in Smash Bros. would end up the LEAST uncharacteristic crossover in fighting games this year.

They should've announced it on April 1. Everybody would've been all "puh-lease, who'd fall for that" and then when it turned out to be true our minds would be blown.

So, how are they gonna explain the DC universe, it's "just another realm" people agitated, so it joins the realm war(well, Midway did kind of crap on their own storyline with armageddon)?

I have little hope for the game now.

Though, I wonder how DC characters will fare with getting chopped to pieces?

EDIT: Damn, I WAS JUST THINKING THAT THERE WOULD BE LITTLE GORE, BECAUSE OF THE CHARACTER ROSTER. Thanks for the link Chuck.

Did I just read the words blood, Kombat, Fatalities, no, little and Mortal in the same sentence?

This is very confounding...and dumb. Remember when they were saying the next MK game would be the next generation's tournament? Now THAT sounded like an awesome idea and it would've been ballsy as hell!

But I guess gay stupid crossover gauranteed to sell is what Midway has in mind. Oh well, I trust the MK team to make a "competent enough" fighter out of this.

                            Gamespot interviews Boon and trailer

It won't be M-rated. Coming this Fall for PS3 and 360.
The game's story is still being kept under wraps but, generally speaking, a cataclysmic event causes the DCU and MK universe to start merging. This provides the perfect setup for the game's story mode, which will offer two perspectives on the situation. You'll be able to play through two separate storylines, one from each side, which lay out what the heck is going on.

MK vs. DCU will introduce several new elements that the team is hoping will make battles more dynamic. The three major ones that are ready to be discussed are Klose Kombat, Freefall Kombat, and stage interaction. Klose Kombat is a mode you'll initiate which pulls in the camera in close and has its own separate mechanics. Basically, when you initiate the mode you'll be the aggressor and your opponent will be on defense. In this closer view you'll be able to attack your foe's upper body with different types of blows for a set period of time, the exact duration of which is still being ironed out. To keep things fair, your opponent will be able to perform a number of different defensive moves to dodge your attacks, provided they're fast.

Freefall Kombat is another change of pace, tied in part to stage interaction. The mode is another player initiated sequence which is kicked off by you flinging your foe off a stage. Unlike previous games you won't just follow them down or watch yourself drop. Instead the camera willl come in and you'll be able to fight on the way down. You'll have a slightly tweaked set of possible attacks in this mode, much like Klose Kombat. From what we've seen, it appears your big motivation in these sequences is to gain the advantage on the way down and land on your opponent, for an added damage bonus. Part of this mode is tied to the stages, which appear to feature a different basic design than the previous games. The fighting areas will be a bit wider, to support throwing your opponent through walls and, in some cases, much taller, to allow enough time for fighting during freefall. Since these new elements should definitely change the flow of battle, the team is spending a lot of time figuring out the right amount of time for them to last. In addition, the fighting moves of the MK cast are getting an upgrade to let them go toe-to-toe with established and powerful characters like Superman. A more potentially controversial change to the system is the game's fatalities. According to Boon, there will definitely be fatality-like finishing moves, but they may not be called fatalities. After all, it's doubtful that Superman or Batman would be ripping out anyone's spines or hearts. That said, the team is hellbent on pushing the limits to what they can do with the DC characters, so you can expect to see blood and some level of damage accumulate during a fight.
