    Underappreciated OSTs

FFXI may be a horrendous $13/mo time sink, but much of its music is worth listening to.

Ones you should definitely check out:

    - Gustaberg
    - Rolanberry Fields
    - The Republic of Bastok
    - Voyager
    - Airship

Breath of Fire 3 had a nice jazzy selection in its OST, namely Casually and These Little Things.

And if you can ever find a copy, or the music, check out Shadow Squadron for Sega's 32X. There's never been a game more underappreciated, IMO.

    ...and that's why.

    - Legend of Mana (my favorite VG ost)
    - SaGa Frontier 2 (awesome piano stuff)
    - Alundra (TOWN THEME UH YEAH)
    - Rygar for PS2 (4-5 fully orchestrated beautiful pieces)
    - Dark Cloud 2 (Starlight Canyon and Rainbow Butterfly Wood are nice if you can hide the titles from everyone around you)
    - Shining Force
    - ActRaiser (there's an arranged CD with some quartet pieces on it I reccommend)
    - Ys games are uber famous for their OSTs in Japan, and in fact there are more Ys OSTs in Japan than Final Fantasy.

and damn. that site's pretty awesome.
I guess if you can't find something there, you might as well get the rip from the game at Zophar and play it in winamp.

Demon's Crest. The game was ahead of its time and every track on the game is phenomenal.

i accually enjoyed the PE1 soundtrack, xenogears which has the best OST's available, alundra, chrono trigger, BOF3, einhinder, final fantasies - mainly 6, and valkyrie profile.

              I think that's properly appreciated.

Same to most of Karr's picks. C'mon! Get obscure!

diablo 2 sound tract, though i dont think it was released (just the music was great). is this obscure enough? i dont think people appreciate this game for the music as much as they do for the game play.

how about zelda link to the past? too common?

oh here is a real obscure one. rhapsody, the soundtrack for that. i feel embarrassed for even owning it, but its music is pretty good and defiantly under appreciated.

Napple Tale probably has the greatest soundtrack ever, ever.

I always wish that someone like the Midbosses would do a medley of Rocket Knight Adventures tunes. In my dreams, Brian May plays the the opening fanfare.

And I'm sure that enough people know about Tenchu: Stealth Assassin's soundtrack, but I want to make sure everyone knows how great it is. The same guy also did Way of the Samurai.

Are there even any Tenchu games worth playing nowadays? Or have they all aged terribly. I've never tried any of them.

Parasite Eve and Einhander. Parasite Eve's OST is fantastic, but I'm not sure if it's as well-known as I'd like to believe.

Einhander has one of the best techno/electronic music soundtracks ever. I have yet to find a shooter with a better OST.

I second Actraiser and Demon's Crest. I also love the music from Life Force and I wish someone would remake it.

I'm playing OUENDAN 2 right now, and I really dig the JP tunes, especially the song for the old man's (peach boy) level and the first song you play during the last battle.

I don't know if they ever released the sound track, but the new Telltale Games version of Sam and Max has some of the most amazing pieces I've ever heard. It's mostly jazzy stuff you'd hear in old noir films but it's also got a lot of catchy 70s style swing music and it actually makes elevator music sound good.

                              Runners up:

                              No One Lives Forever series
                              Deus Ex
                              Age of Wonders 2
Sins of a Solar Empire (probably the best sci-fi track I've heard)
Knights of the Old Republic (a star wars game with ORIGINAL music yes please!)
