View Full Version : Open for suggestion

Personally, I feel that just one person working with the plot and content of a game can lead to bias, so I'm open for suggestion. If you give me some time, I'll type up a summary of the skeleton plot.

What are you talking about?

Sivart
02-01-2008, 12:25 AM
Ha, I've been making dumb posts all day... I meant for my new game, Ark. Right now, it's being used as a way to learn everything and will cut off at the demo until I work with the plot a bit more and decide what all to add to the rest of the game.

I'm creative, but I have my limits. That's why I made the topic. That way, after I put the plot up, people can make suggestions for quests and the like. (Sorry for all the stupid posts, I'm taking this cough medicine, Tussinex, for my asthma, and boy does it mess you up... I'm drowsy AND wide awake.)

JPS
02-01-2008, 12:33 AM
So are you trying to learn stuff?

Sivart
02-01-2008, 12:36 AM
Well, this game was originally intended to be a game just for my learning, but I decided I wanted to extend the plot, add some twists, put a lot more content in it than originally planned. I'm starting to write up a plot summary.

JPS

Well what do you have as far as storyline so far?

Sivart
02-01-2008, 12:41 AM
Right now, the skeleton of the plot is that a prince has been foretold to lead his people to a golden age. His primary goals are to eliminate the gods that have been bringing woe to the people. The only problem is that if he fails, his people are doomed for all of eternity. (I have more on the Gods, but I'd prefer not to reveal, but I can PM it to you if you want) He's only 13 when he goes on his quest. He has along with him a well-trained knight, and manages to persuade his friend and mentor to join as well. He quickly runs into complications after departure. In order to access the tomb of Anubis (one of my baddies), he has to weaken the seal of power surrounding it. If he doesn't, he'll be overwhelmed by the tomb's raw energy.

Location - The Kingdom of Atticus
Characters - Ark, Odin, Hadeia. (more to come)
Setting - Medieval times.

First thing that screams at me is how is a 13 year old going to kill all-powerful gods? Does he have some kind of ancestrial powers?

Sivart
02-01-2008, 12:51 AM
Let me pull up the intro (Thanks Lausen!)

The Kingdom of Atticus has been in the line of one family for generations, a line of kings noble as any. This family has kept peace and harmony with their wisdom and strength despite the ever-looming presence of the gods. With each passing moment the gods tighten their influence over the kingdom of Atticus. Years ago a wise sage prophesized that on the thirteenth birthday of the one hundredth successor of the kingdom the people would be set free of the gods wrath, but at what price would their freedom cost?

As far as powers, the magic of the prophecy gave the prince an edge from the get-go. Right from 5, he was getting extensive training from multiple teachers, including his father. After 8 years of accelerated training, the magic that sealed his fate centuries ago forced him to pursue the rigorous task of eliminating the gods.

Well Im assuming the gods are immortal, so how are you going to have him kill them? or have you figured it out yet?

Just some questions Im thinking about, after I get a few answers Ill start helping you.

Im going to bed for the night, Ill check back here in the morning. :)

PS:Its nice to see the RPGM community pitching in to help a new person out on their story, this is the first time Ive ever seen this happen. Im assuming Lausen helped you out with the intro? If so thank you Lausen(I dont know why Im thanking you, I just feel like I should) :lol

Sivart
02-01-2008, 01:12 AM
Yeah, Lausen's helped me out with my intro and various event issues. As for the gods... I'm thinking that Ra, one of the antagonists, started the corruption of the gods with a simple suggestion. He had already allowed his mind to lose itself in hate after his son Heru-Ur who was not yet strong enough to ascend (Become a God, and ultimately, immortal) had been killed by his own people. Ra was consumed with the desire for revenge on not only his son's murderers, but even his brethren gods. Ra simply asked the other gods Why be benevolent? Why share our land with the people of the world when we can so easily have it to ourselves?

Slowly it started to sink in. The gods could easily take away what they had so freely given. Life. However, to do an act as evil as this would strip them of their immortality. Just before they started their "Reign of terror" so to speak, they sealed away their lifeforce into different guardians. Doing so would easily allow them to avoid the loss of immortality, since they are invincible so long as their guardians remain. Ra had done what he wanted. He had the gods set up for their demise. After the guardians are placed, Ra uses a vassal of his, a human messenger, to hint at the weakness of the gods.

That actually sounds pretty good and pretty believeable, also makes for a very good storyteller, if you make one for this.

Seriously? In the beginning, the plot was VERY cliché, but when I started to write up the plot right here, inspiration struck. (What I had just typed was just thought of. At least the plot's down. I'm only worried about content. I need enough items for the demo. I have the monsters, and I used your stats calc, but I was wondering what some good initals class stat minimums and maximums would be. Like how low or high per stat bonus. Not to mention I need to conversations. I'm rarin' to go, though. :D

JPS
02-01-2008, 10:29 AM
depends on how high you want your stats to go, my game starts out fairly low(single digits) but everytime you level up you gain a huge amount of stats(because it is needed), but most games Ive seen only increase your stats by at most 10 each level, so I wouldnt exceed that.

Thanks for using my program by the way :) what do you think of it?

Sivart
02-01-2008, 10:32 AM
I thought it was good. I was a little... perturbed that it was telling me to give all my monsters INT, AGI, and Luck equal to what my main characters is. It saved me a world of trouble, though.

So let's see. I should start with stats from 1-9, and have the increases from 1-10?

There is no set number for the INT AGI and LUCK, INT is how well the monster sticks to its creator-determined battle type, AGI is how fast it attacks, and LUCK is how often it can land a hit/miss an oncoming hit, I just based them off the main character to make for an equal fight.

So let's see. I should start with stats from 1-9, and have the increases from 1-10?

I would, yes, but its just an opinion, except for Base HP and MP, you can set those higher if you wish

Sivart
02-01-2008, 10:41 AM
Yeah, the last thing I was is a battle-system so unbalanced that either A: It's way too easy, or B: It's way too hard. Alright so I have like.. 2 questions. I wanted to know if there were any Large sized towns, and how to make that after you talk with someone, an event causes them to join your party (Already have that part) and then makes them disappear from their house. Or should I just make it lock the house in question saying "No one's home" or something of the sort?

Also, wanna make a cameo in my game? o.O

Woo! Great news! I've been sick for awhile, and I had received some money for my A's, and sometime today my mom ought ta be picking me up a new copy of RPG Maker 3! Hooray for the extreme likeliness that it won't crash in the middle of me working!

One more thing... Tell me if this is a good stat set-up. All stats of my classes receive a rating of 1-10. For HP and MP that bonus goes up by 5 for each 1. For the normal stats, they'll increase by 1, and for the fixed values, they go by 10. As for HP base, it'll increase by 50s. Does that sound good?

Sorry for the numerous walls of text.

JPS
02-01-2008, 10:58 AM
Thats cool, yeah, Ill make a cameo in your game:lol

There are large sized towns(called Medium in this game:lol), and again, Ill point you to one of my posts

http://www.pavilionboards.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13813

You dont have to use the pre-made town, just take the town model and start a new one with that model.

To make a character disappear after he joined your party just use the "Display Off: [character]" after he joins.

HP Base doesnt go up, its the base HP you start the game with, if your HP Base is 50 and your HP^ is 50, then when you start the game on level one your HP will be 100, if you want to start the game with 50 HP then leave the HP Base at 0.

I think your fixed values should be lowered to 2 or 3, otherwise youll max those out on level 10, otherwise it sounds pretty good.(However I dont think LUCK increases per level, I may be wrong though)

If you want to make someones area of skill good, add 1 to the level up stat of the appropriate field. For example, an armored knight would be really good at swordsmanship, so increase his ATK and DEF by 1 from what the calc gives you, if you have a sorceress or a mage increase his MAG and MDEF by 1.

Sivart
02-01-2008, 11:03 AM
Alright, I'll work on that event. With a base HP at 0, when a character with 50 ^ gets to level 99, they'll have... 4500 for 90... 450 for 9... 4950 health. Yeah, a base would affect it by a maximum of 500.

02-01-2008, 11:08 AM
wow its me you me you me you, hope no one comes in here and tells us to talk on AIM, no point really, this is your game forum, and we're talking about your game.:lol

Sivart
02-01-2008, 11:17 AM
Heh, yeah. I guess no one's interested in my game but you and Lausen. ^^
I'm using that stat-system, it seems to work pretty well. Allow me to confirm that an event can change a character's class, right? I wanted 2-3 of my characters to sort of rank-up. The prince going from kind of weak Acolyte, to the more powerful Templar.

JPS
02-01-2008, 11:20 AM
I dont think theres an event for changing class(though I could be wrong), Ive never needed to change a class so I'm not sure.

The best people to ask would be Pagerron, Perversion or Obright, although Lausen or Wavelength might also know.

Make a topic in RM3 and ask

Sivart

I'm going to in a second. *switches over to laptop* I just saved myself a fifteen step, 3 second walk from my couch to my desktop. Kinda sad when you think about it...

Hi...

Sivart
02-01-2008, 08:15 PM
Did you read the plot summary on the front page?

Lord Cohliani
02-01-2008, 08:24 PM
Yea why?

Sivart
02-01-2008, 08:39 PM
Any suggestions? I'd rather not talk much more about the plot since it's going to be a surprise... But any random ideas for quests? (I can adapt them to the setting)

JPS
02-01-2008, 09:06 PM
Because you're randomly spamming... Since you read the front page, I'm assuming you understand this is for suggestions?

Hes not randomly spamming, hes just saying hi, he probably wants to talk about your game but waiting for you to tell him what youve done since then.

At least he hasnt spammed a New Topic (http://www.pavilionboards.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15957) yet.

if its only applicable for an hour or two and theres nothing to say to it then its spam to me.

You do have a sarcasm problem, as I noticed in your PMs on AIM, keep that up and no one will want to talk to you.

Sivart
02-01-2008, 09:07 PM
I'm not sarcastic, I'm grumpy. >.<

Actually, I try and avoid sarcasm. What you thought was sarcasm was a compliment. o.O (I was never sarcastic in my PMs)

Also, if any of you have taken oral steroids, you'd know how moody it can make you... =/

That was stupid, dude. :wink

Sivart
02-01-2008, 09:28 PM
Which part? The mean hypocritical part, or the apology part? I can't help it if I lash out. At least not until I'm done taking the moody pills. :spin

Prednisone! That's what it is! Euch.

Time to list the side-effects. (My various issues are starting to make sense now...)

# depression, mania, or other psychiatric symptoms
# unusual fatigue or weakness
# mental confusion / indecisiveness
# blurred vision
# insomnia
# nervousness

Fun, eh?

Change of subject... What do you think of my plot?

Duel
02-01-2008, 09:37 PM
It's ok.

Sivart
02-01-2008, 09:40 PM
It was supposed to be a game to familiarize myself, with a pretty cliché'd plot. But then I revised it. I have a couple of twists up my sleeve as well. o.O

Lausen
02-01-2008, 10:42 PM
Honestly most games nowdays are cliche. I must admit even my game is cliche, but I desguise it very well. It is kinda find the crystal type thing, but the story that goes along with it is what makes it good. Plot twist's are what make a game memrable. It sounds like you have that so it sounds decent to me. Also the way you present it plays the biggest factor.

Sivart
02-01-2008, 10:47 PM
Which means a beginner could easily mess up what woud have been a good game. :p

Lord Cohliani
02-01-2008, 11:01 PM
I don't think it's too bad... If those "twists" are as good as you say it should be a good game... So many good ideas have been used up that it's pretty hard to make your game not cliche...

Sivart
02-01-2008, 11:11 PM
Yeah, that and the good ideas are broad enough to seep into ideas that haven't been incorporated into a good story. No matter what, you're using part of someone else's idea... >.<

Thank you, JPS! It's thanks to him that I have worked out a decent ending. ^^
