Virginia Introduces $3550 Speeding Ticket

Check out this new law Virginia passed a few months ago, do you think this is fair? I dont think this has been posted yet.

damn, thats a money grab. thats why you drive illegally, the jail time is cheaper.

edit: wait, never mind you get beaned even more if you dont have a license. i guess its better to run from the cops now more then ever, or commit a bunch of other crimes to escape.


New York:
$100 x 3 years for 6 points (plus $75 for each point over 6)
$250 x 3 tears for DUI

i wonder who counts the tears?

Jesus that is crazy. I think it is ridiculous to make somebody pay 3000+ AND throw them in jail AND take away 6 license points.
It reminds me of those third world countries where people get their hands and feet cut off for stealing.

but are the roads safer because of it? a 100 buck ticket is nothing if i speed all the time to get to work in time. however a 3k ticket plus other special effects are going to make me pause. i guess the law is to remind motorists to acually obey the laws, which a lot still probably wont.

Well, I have 4 reckless driving tix and 5 speedings, though I got all of those over 5 years ago and has since changed my ways I'll still get sent to jail and have a buttload of taxes/fines to pay, so yeah, if I get pulled over for doing 15 over, Im going to get severely punished for things I did 5 years ago, so its discrimination in a sense because Im not the driver I once was, Ive paid my fines/did my time, and it can still come back to bite me even though the law wasnt in effect at the time.

Ive signed the petition, the law is just plain stupid, Im in favor of harsher punishment for speeders, but this is rediculous.

you dont even know how many stupid car jokes i get on my online name. i use to play an online game and thats all i got was knobs thinking they are the masters of comedy.

im not sure id like to be called karr chaos in rl, would just seam odd.

edit: ironic isnt it how karr seams to be a misspelling of car, and i am well noted for my lack of english skills.

Good thing I only go 10 over (well except on the interstate, though I try to keep it within 15). I personally think those laws are really harsh, but then again I like getting to where I'm going as effeciently as possible, so if the traffic allows me to go 10 over the speed limit safely, why shouldn't I be able to. Funny the only time I've gotten in an accident I was going the speed limit and still hit the car in front of me because she had better brakes than I did (ABS), and I couldn't see anyone else stop in front of her, and I wasn't following any closer than I normally do (which isn't too close, around 1-2 car lengths). So I don't think speed is the deciding factor in most accidents, it's typically not paying attention.

So I think they should go after the people going 20+ over the speed limit, those are the dangerous ones, since on most roads you can go 10 over and still make all the turns easy and doesn't make your driving any less safe. 3500 for a speeding ticket is robbery I say (unless maybe you're going 90-100 or so).

I can go the speed limit, thats not the problem, the problem is if someone runs out in front of me(Im sure everyone knows how stupid drivers can be) and I happen to still get the ticket, Ill have to pay taxes on my previous tickets(which will be $700/year) for 5 years, and that doesnt include the ticket cost, civil fees, and court fees.

Im all for $3500 a ticket, but I just dont like that they punish you AGAIN for tickets youve already paid/did your time for years ago.
