I second Shaun of the Dead, Land of the Dead and Dawn of the Dead. Didn't see any Saw movies or Hostel.
Allow me to add:
Dracula 1931
Frankenstein 1931
YOUNG Frankenstein \:3
Day of the Dead
Dawn of the Dead remake
Evil Dead 2/Army of Darkness
28 Days Later
Alien
Dog Soldiers
The Thing (original AND remake)
Pulse (Kairo)
The Ring 2002
The Hills Have Eyes (remake)
Rosemary's Baby
Cube
Inland Empire
Jaws
Arachnophobia
Psycho (original)
The Birds
Audition
The Shining (original)
Bubba Ho-tep
Funny Games (original though the upcoming remake looks just as delectable)
Audition is a definite. 28 Days Later and The Ring were both awesome. Shaun of the Dead and Young Frankenstein are both hilarious. I really liked the 1st SAW. (not so much the others)
Oh and I really liked Silent Hill although I HATE THE RESIDENT EVIL MOVIES!!!
Aliens (technically it is scifi-action, but whatever.)
Fright Night
Shaun of the Dead
Arachnophobia
Pet Cementary (still haven't seen the ending, though.)
My favorites would be Alien (at the top of the list) and Repulsion, followed by (and only remembered because of Magus posting them) Rosemary's Baby (aonther Polanski film), The Shining, Psycho (the original, not the Vince Vaughan beating off one), the original Nightmare on Elm Street, the Elm Street one (5 or 6...I forget) that was "meta" and self-referencing before Scream did the same thing, 28 Days Later, The Descent, Tetsuo The Iron Man (if you can consider that horror), probably others I'm forgetting.
I have not seen this movie, but you know the Hotel manager that was ripped apart? He's Canadian and Karr and I saw him perform recently.
I am not a fan of horror movies, but dating has caused my exposure level to increase. The movie that got me the most (laugh if you must) was Scream because I was so young when it was released, and it was my first REAL scary movie. I wouldn't go to bed before the sun rised that summer!
I like the Shining
There was the most annoying girl behind me in the theatre for The Grudge, so I focused more on that
I just saw Thit13en Ghosts the other night and thought it was stupid. Shannon Elizabeth can't act worth ****, and she was 26 in that film, playing a Young Adult!
The Shining is up there. Screw the fact that Stephen King didn't like the direction it went, it's still the best adaptation of any of his works so far.
The first time I saw Ringu, I had trouble sleeping for a week.
I like all of Romero's Dead movies, but his Dawn of the Dead is still the best, no matter how bright red and fake the blood is. I'm not partial to the remake in any way when compared to the original.
The Nightmare on Elm Street series. I usually lump them in together since they're all good fun, but the ones that had any sort of "scariness factor" to them were the first three and the last one, Wes Craven's New Nightmare.
I'll elaborate on why I like the second one. Most people canned it for some reason, but I rather think the premise is interesting. And the scene where Freddy emerges from the husk of the main character is the best scene in the movie. It's too bad the movie has such a weak third act.
It's interesting that I'm listening to "Get Out Alive" by Three Days Grace as I read this.
I tend to avoid horror movies, so I don't see many of them. The scariest movies I saw (not that that means much are The Brothers Grimm, and Anaconda: Hunt for the Blood Orchid. I also recorded Alone in the Dark once, though I think that got deleted off the DVR.
I personally don't find any horror movies to be scary anymore. All that they do is make you jump a bit and most of the time it's not the "killer" that does it. It's a stupid door or something. If I had to pick it would be Silance of the Lambs, just because thats creepy. I was more amazed how detailed they were on coming up with the devices in Saw. Not scared.
Oh, I forgot The Blair Witch Project. It wasn't scary or anything while watching it but after I was really jumpy. Although that might have more to do with the fact it was late at night and I was alone in a less than familiar house. I was house/dogsitting for a friend while her family was out of town.
