    Folklore

I've been playing the demo but can't get the game until later, but did anyone pick this up amidst the Halo 3/Orange Box sandstorm?

I'm still debating on whether or not I should get it.

But so far, the gameplay's pretty neat though--based on my time with the demo. Not sure about the full game.

I haven't actually played it but the game itself looks awesome ..... i mean every single screenshot i have seen has so much detail, is the gameplay fluid?

      Re: Folklore

I got it. Forgot to make a topic about it.

I've finished the Prologue for both characters, and Chapter 1 for Ellen. It's a lot of fun, just as fun as the demo, but I have some gripes.

The first is that it appears you have to play both characters for every chapter. I don't mean switching up and playing the other for one of the chapters, but you have to play almost identical chapters with two characters to get through the story. Not a huge deal, because they do change up the system and the order in which you get Folks, but mostly I know I'm going to get aggravated with immediately replaying levels.

The second is that, while the plot development is told in a number of ways (the 3D manga way is awesome), it feels like there's been too much of it versus the gameplay for the first couple of hours. I'm hoping that the gameplay will factor in more heavily in a couple of hours.

The environments are just amazing. I have no other words to describe it, but they look stunning and beautfiul and colorful and artistic and I love just wandering around in a field or down a path, admiring the attention to detail. The environments are mostly static, in that there are not a lot of moving parts. No wind blowing around to shake the leaves. But the movement is artfully done and seems to only add to the scene with lazy motes of dust and capering butterflies. We'll see how they manage in the later realms.

The fighting is a lot like in the demo, but a bit more in-depth in that there are so many Folk to battle and often you have to experiment with your current Folk before you figure out how to capture its soul.

I'm having a blast with it so far. Way better than Lair.

      *runs off to play Folklore*

PS: Ellen is Scottish. I love her.

I love Folklore too! It's definitely like the best thing ever made in the last few years, that's for sure.

If you want to see more about it you can find some on my Folklore website:

          Re: Folklore

          Some updates:

Warcadia is confusing. Lots of places to go and a ton of items to collect to upgrade your Folks. And it looks like I'll be revisiting every Realm to collect items and fight Folks with newer Realm Folks in order to upgrade them fully.

In some cases areas are inaccessible until you have the right Folk. I'm lacking a Folk from Keats's Faery Realm because I don't have the right one to open up the area I need to get into.

Also, the Folks for each realm vary. There are some overlapping Folks, but there are just as many unique to each character's version of the Realm. It adds variety to replaying a Realm so shortly after having beat it with the other character, and now I don't know if I'm gonna get annoyed by it at all.

It's actually a lot like having two different versions of the game in one. Like two colors of Pokemon, but you don't have to buy them separate.

I love this game. I'm also only 5 hours into it, so we'll see how things develop.

I've been really interested in this one.
Just gotta wait for the PS3 to get cheaper (the BC ones).

BRC.....it seems you have faith in the PS3 again!

And maybe this will whet your appetite even further.....Ratchet and Clank Future is available for download at the PlayStation store.

It's good IMO, but not something I would consider picking up.

                    Re: Folklore

It's definitely not going to be a game for everyone. It's not fast-paced and hectic, and it's not "cool" or hip, but it is beautiful, paced well, crafted with love and win, and sounds excellent.

I've been saying for a while now that the only game I was really looking forward to was Folklore (at least in terms of what I have the systems to play them). I've been outside the realm of game-playing for a while, and it's kind of nice to be back into a game I'm really digging.

Edit: One thing that's really glaring for me is that this game lacks subtlety. The plot progression is so spoon-fed that you hardly even have to pay attention to the scenes of dialogue between characters, because by the time you're supposed to actually go do something, your character will kindly reiterate everything you just learned. Half the time it just puts you right where you're supposed to be. The plot feels like it's on rails. Not a terrible thing, but just kind of weird.

                      DOUBLE POST AMIGAD.

There's a queer sort of glitch that has become really noticeable with the deployment of your Folks. The lock-on option will often lock-on to your own Folks that you've sent out, and that have longer than momentary flashes on the screen. This disorients me and quite commonly is destructive to my health. I noticed it while trying to lock on to the third boss of the game.

                      Kind of annoying.

I never noticed that in the demo. Must be something that sprung up afterwards. I'm sure it can be fixed.

                          Re: Folklore

It's not a game-breaker, by any means. It just gets in the way sometimes, and for absolutely no reason except that they either didn't foresee it happening, or they didn't think it would be a problem. Sometimes your Folk is onscreen for several long moments while it does its thing, and if you're fighting the same Folk that you're deploying, it can be really confusing and annoying.

                              Re: Folklore

It seems it can only happen with Ellen, as her Folks act independently of her body and can sometimes go tearing across the room helter-skelter, whereas Keats' Folks are more intertwined with his body. This even has effects on the actions that individual Folks do between characters. Barrager, for instance, from Warcadia, only shoots in a straight line with Ellen, but you can have more than one on the screen at a time. With Keats, you get to control the flow of bullets and hold it for as long as you like.

It's all the little things that make a difference. But being able to target your Folks is annoying.
