So I decided that despite writer's block, I was gonna try working on [game which shall not be mentioned by name] anyway, and hope that I finally get some good ideas as I do so. That's how some of my better ideas came about anyway. To start, I decided to play through what I've got to give myself a nice refresher. But this is getting annoying. Twice now, I find big glitches leftover from certain changes from last time. First I couldn't get into the first enemy area because I changed the switch required to open it, and now I can't properly explore Rockford because I shifted the map and now all the events are sitting in the wrong place.
Inconvenience.

I totally understand, believe me. But don't look at it as inconvenience, look at it as an opportunity to fix something. I know it sounds wack, but it's way preferable to having things that need to be fixed and not knowing about them until you've already uploded your file.
But I know it's hard to get inspired to work on the story when you're constantly bombarded by ticky little technical things, but it will get better the more little things you find and fix. I generally work in 2 modes (actually more than that, but let's just stick to these 2): story mode, and tech mode. When I'm playtesting in story mode, I might make a note of any technical issues I encounter, but other than that I completely ignore them. If I'm playtesting in tech mode I might think of a great idea to use in the story. Again, I make a simple note of it and move on with my technical issues. If I don't stay focused like that, then I get swamped easily, but then...my multi-tasking chip is defective. :(
I'm just glad you're working on your game...that's the important thing.

Draygone,
I really like your honest post.
I totally understand where you're coming from. When I play through what I have, I start to get into it, just enjoying the story, then an unexpected glitch comes at a key moment, and I think, "Oh come on!! I don't feel like actually working on the game today!!" I like Obright's suggestions about keeping a little notebook nearby as you playtest.
Anyway, keep pressing on bro. (I'm preaching to myself here too, mind you.)
Having Slayer's Reign under your belt will be a great feeling, I'm sure.

Yeah, I decided to just skip the playthrough and started working on a cutscene. Nearly finished it. And figured out how to make Mick's explanation near the start of the game about how he thinks he got tricked by his co-workers into coming into a just-recently monster-infested area less intrusive. Figure I can cut it out and make it an optional mini-cutscene elsewhere.

Just a passing thought, not really an update. I'm just thinking how my progress with [game which shall not be mentioned by name] would go if I had the same motivational factor I did that enabled me to finish Jester's Hunt. And actually, a contest was responsible for my creation of EVIL: THE REDICULOUSLY LONG-NAMED GAME CREATED BY DRAYGONE OF GREAT DRAGON GAMING IN AN ATTEMPT TO WIN THE RPG MAKER PAVILION'S COMPLETE GARBAGE CONTEST, as well. But what contest could there possibly be that SR would fit in? Create the longest epic RPG? Nobody's gonna have the patience for that. Certainly won't be a regular "create the best game" contest, again.
So yeah, passing thought.
