Another 'I bought this new console' thread

I just bought a 60 gig PS3 on Amazon for $475 shipped with 3 free Blu Ray DVDs. After I ordered it, I realized that I don't really want a PS3 yet because there aren't many good games out. Is there any reason I shouldn't cancel my order?

Yeah, I didn't want to apply for one of those lame Sony credit cards though. I have enough. The real reason I want to cancel is so I can buy a 360 later this week, which I was going to do either way.

The only reason I can think of not to cancel it is if you want to play PS1/2 games on it. If you decided to get a PS3 later when more games arrive chances are you'll be stuck with the new Emotion-less model. But beside that you may as well cancel it.

Cancelled! Thanks for the help. Now it's time to look for a good deal on a 360.

all 80GB models and all future models of the PS3 will have the PS1/PS2 hardware removed, and rely on software emulation for older games. limited software emulation. They are terrible about releasing updates to the PAL consoles that have had software emulation since launch, and many very popular games are not on the list.

The features you get for an extra hundred bucks is totally worth it.
the 60GB model has all the features intact. you're thinking of the 20GB model?
because the 80GB model actually removes features, like full backward compatability mentioned above.

From what I understand, PS1 emulation on all PS3s is software based, and always has been.

If you care about PS2 emulation, though, you need to get the 60 GB one, because that did have a hardware component to it.

I'm lookin in pawn since my dad won't split the cost if it's $500.

Also I wanna know how diffiicult it is to switch out hard drives on the PS3, since it seems a tad small.

There's instructions in the manual. you unscrew one door, grab a handle, pull the hard drive out, take the harness off the hard drive, put a new hard drive in the harness, slide it in, close the door, put the screw back in, go to the XMB system menu, select format hard drive. I think it uses 2.5 SATA hard drives.

Considering I payed $25 less and didn't get anything free with it, it was actually a pretty good deal, and in the long run, it's a better deal than the 360 unless you are only interested in offline solo play and will never want to watch high-def movies.
