Oddworld say bye to games industry

Stranger's Wrath, which wasn't really applauded by the press, didn't get much respect from the public either and according to Lanning, this was partially because of a bad promotional campaign by Electronic Arts.

During the interview, Lanning gives a couple of other sharp blows towards EA and states he finally decided to quit making games.

Strangers Wrath kicked ass. EA is seriously a huge piece of ****. The quicker EA stops monopolizing the hell out of everything they can get their hands on the better for us.

Way to go, EA. Make sure you kill off every fun game. We all just want to play Madden NFL over and over and over.

Bah. Oddworld never had a problem until it went to XBox. Way to go XBox.

Oddworld had plenty of problems on the Playstation. Most of them involving a lack of fun.

On the PSX they were great games, and they sold well. On XBox the games didn't sell well at all. XBox lost its only saving grace. Oh well, pity for them.

Not a pity for them. Nobody bought it on Xbox. I'd say their saving grace is Halo, which still sells like 8 billion copies a week to drunken frat boys.

              I didn't like Oddworld's Flashback-esque gameplay. Neither did I like Munch's mascot-style gameplay.

Halo is their saving grace for sales, correct, it did sell alot. But that doesn't change the fact that Halo is crap, and is just another FPS game that we have a million of already.

I liked Munch's Oddysee, it was alot of fun for me. It was great to have one good game on the system.

Of course. That's what I mean.

Halo is a mediocre piece of hog anus that sold like hotcakes thanks to the gigantic hype machine it had. Xbox could be called Halo Player and just only play Halo games and it would still outsell Gamecube.

Yay, another "Everyone Join in on Blaming Microsoft and EA for All the Woes of the Gaming Industry and Halo Too Even Though It's a Good Game" topic.

And we're only on page one! Terrific!

The Oddworld game I played, the first one for PSone I think, was okay. I certainly appreciate the creativity involved but I never liked those kinds of games because they are great depressants. If I wanna be bored and play something more fun then yeah, I'll play Oddworld. Then turn it off and play something else.

The Oddworld XBox game was just bad though. That has no excuse other than that.

Still, terrible news a guy just plain gave up making videogames. Shouldn't another company snatch him right up though? Couldn't he apply somewhere else? Why just give up and blame "Big Business?"

And thus why microsoft should burn in hell along with EA!

                          LONG LIVE ODDWORLD!!

No, A) he owns the orginal IP and publishers want the IP and since he wont sell the IP they dont want anything to do with him and his company.

                            Couldn't he apply somewhere else?
B)He owns his IP, therefor see A.

Its the easiest way to quit. What Lanning did state is something all developers are starting to see more of. With the cost of games going up, publishers want a full proof plan and game that will sell well so they dont have to take a chance at loosing money. Becuase of this, orginal ideas like Lannings and other developers are shot down by publishers.

To add to this, American Mghee(sp?) left the US and went to japan to make a movie about the twisted land of oz. He is doing this because he couldnt find a publisher to bite on his twisted land of oz game and he thinks that if a movie is produced he will be able to get a publisher to bite on the game afterwards.

Thats just utterly pathetic and sad, especially if you look at American's track record in the industry.....tis a sad day.

Stanger's Wrath, the other Oddworld game fro the Xbox, was awsome and criticly aclamined by the industry. No one played it though. I tryed to convice all of you guys to give it a try.

                              But you wouldn't.

                              And now Lanning's quit.

                              Thanks a lot.
