The God Gene (A more "Together" list of features)

The future that The God Gene paints, is not one torn by the tribulations of war. It is a peaceful time--on the surface. To the oblivious, life is perfect, clean, and devoid of catastrophic toils. But to Ivan, a young man bio-genetically created from the many genes of countless donors, the world has lost its collective mind.

Politicians fight day-by-day; arguing endlessly, doing nothing. The world of organized crime thrives--and with those same politicians being paid off by them to ensure it stays that way! The vast majority of Humanity remains oblivious. What's a bio-genetically engineered young man--code name "Salvator" (Savior)--to do?

Now, Ivan is on the trail of a murderer. The murderer wants Ivan to catch him, but why? The answer that Ivan will uncover, will shatter his perceptions of the world (and that of those arround him) and throw him and five others into a conflict that will draw the attention of beings on even the highest plane of existence.

"Human beings had lost touch with humanity when they decided they were gods."

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------
"The God Gene" is a Sci-Fi RPG experiment with RPGMaker 3. It is set in the year 2367. Human beings have created colonies in space--orbiting just above the earth--and on Mars. Part of the mystery of this game will be finding out just what happened that had ended years of war-torn strife in the eastern lands. The story of this game is as much a commentary on current affairs as it is futuristic ones.

*Over 30 hours of gameplay! Navagating the Web-Net and all of its functions adds hours of play!

*Here are a number of basic Q and A's, if you have any others, just ask me and I'll update this post to answer them:

Q: How is the level grind?
A: There is no particular "Level grind" in this game. You recieve skill points from battles that can be used to upgrade stats. You may upgrade stats to you liking, but remember that your arsenal of special skills is directly affected by your current statistics.

    Q: Eh, Skill Points?
A: The name is self explainitory. They are points that you use to upgrade your stats and learn skills. You get them from defeated enemies, completing special tasks, and through other methods I won't reveal here.

    Q: That's a pretty unimaginative name.
    A: That's not even a question!!

Q: What do you mean by "build adreneline"?
A: "Adreneline" refers to what your MP meter in this game is. As you strike your opponent in battle "adrenenline" builds. You can then spend it on special attacks like Ivan's "Mist" ability.

Q: A Science Fiction game with RPGMaker 3? Is you crazy!?
    A: Yes. Next question.

Q: Did you write all of these questions yourself?
    A: NEXT QUESTION!

Q: Am I going to be offended by the sophistical concepts of your game?
A: Possibly. I think I even offended myself sometimes in writing this game's story.

    Q: Uh, Web_Net?
A: Its a computer system. Most people get their basic Web_Net access from Net_Navs, but since virtual reality interaction has become the new "in" thing, many have gone back to usisng somewhat oversized computers that connect your mind directly to the world wide web. Home computers haven't been "in" since the 2100s of course, but they will continue to be used until someone develops a way to pocket-size the technology.

Q: Yeah, okay. But what does it do as far as gameplay is concerned.
A: Well, lots of things. E-mail, online training, online gaming, online shopping, and a certain link that holds some signifigance to an ongoing sidequest.

    Q: Online gaming?
A: I've taken a page from .Hack and created a few optional levels available only if another person online asks you to accompany them on a quest in the Virtual Reality Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game (VRMMORPG),
"(Un)Real Quest". You can obtain extra skill points, money, items, and other prizes.

Q: What's this "Ongoing sidequest" thing?
A: It involves the summoned creatures and "(Un)Real Quest". That's all I'm going to say.

Q: Yeah, about those summoned creatures. What do they do?
They are really powerful allies that take a bit of doing to obtain, but repay the effort ten fold. They're more powerful than your main characters, and they're Special Attacks don't cost any Adreneline. Instead, they have a "Spirit Meter" that they use. As they attack with physical hits (or even every other turn whether or not they do anything) they're Spirit Meter fills. When it reaches max, they can use their "Spirit Overflow" attacks. These attacks are the most powerful of any you'll find.

Q: How much time do you have on your hands to be doing all of this?
A: More than I should, less than you might think. I'll be busy with other things in the coming months, which is why I like RPGMaker 3: Because I don't have time to fool with RPGMaker 2 or 1.

Q: -Will the "(Un)Real Quest" (which I know you are purposely leaving a bit shrouded in secrecy) require a DSL connection to access?
-I'm still trying to figure out if it's an actual MMORPG or what (since you mentioned that it "simulates" an MMORPG.) That's probably exactly what I'm supposed to be doing, I know.

A: No. It will not require DSL acess. And it is an actual MMORPG in the sense that it is canon in the story. As far as gameplay goes, its just another function that simulates one, like .Hack. You will go on quests with a number of players (other characters) for extra loot and other prizes that can be obtained. Its a whole nother side game within "The God Gene". Since Ivan and the others care little for the in game loot that can be found, they let the REAL players keep the junk and they get all of the cash prizes and skill points (and sometimes, special skills) that can be obtained IRL through the game.

There will be tough optional bosses and challenges that will test your ability moreso than the main game. There is even a subplot that goes along with it, so I should say that is less of a sidequest and more of a sidestory.

First of all, Ivan Rosenguard, it's nice to see that you have your own forum for your game! Congrats on that.

    I have a quick question.

I put my answer to your question on the first post, Pagerron.

Re: The God Gene (A more "Together" list of features)

This is just info on enemy types. You've all probably seen it before. I just wanted to have it here in my game's forum.

        Specifics on enemies and attacks:

There are three enemy types in The God Gene:

        Biological (B-type)
        Mechanical (M-type)
        Spiritual (S-type)

How do you know which is which? Well, common sense for one. If an enemy looks mechanical and has the name "Security Droid ss7" then it must be a Keebler Elf!

        Dur dee dur! :P

But, for the slow kids in the back of the classroom, all enemies have a single letter beside their names that states what type they are. (B for Bio, M for Mech, and S for Spirit.)

"Woopdiedoo! what does it all mean, Basil?"

Well, for starters, whilst magic targets elemental weaknesses, many melee skills target enemy type for extra damage. But that's not all!

Biological enemies fight just like your party members. They have to attack and charge their MP gauge to attack with special skills. They're also pretty average in all status categories.

Mechanical enemies usually have an external power source, and thus, have unlimited energy. However, you might be able to cut them off from that never ending source somehow.

Mechanical enemies usually are built for either offensive or defensive aptitude. Truely dangerous are those that are built with both in mind.

Spirits are different from all other enemies in that they, unlike B and M types, are MADE of energy and not matter. Simply put, they use THEMSELVES to attack (they use up their HP). They'll continue to use up the energy that makes up their existence to the point which they are close to dissapearing. But even if you deliver a killing blow, be warned that spirits cannot die, they either are already dead, or were never tied to this physical realm to begin with. The energy that they are made up of will replenish itself shortly.

Also be warned that spirits are either manifested in the physical by their own will, manifested in the physical because they are tied to some kind of object or person, or completely non-physical in any sense. They are not there, but you can percieve them. Some are this way because they choose to be, others are this way because they are confused spirits and do not know how to manifest themselves in real space. Some spirits can fade in and out of real and imaginary space at will in the blink of an eye.

The significance of this is, that if a spirit is within real space, it can be attacked. If it exists only in imaginary space (that is, unkown space) it cannot be attacked. So, then, how does it still have the ability to beat you into a pulp, then? Simple. Whether it intentionally or not, when a spirit seeks to make contact with the real world, a small part of itself comes in contact with real space. This is known as the "Klein Point"--the point in space-time where the real and imaginary collide. You can hit this point, too, but it takes little more than luck to do it.

Not only was the post pretty funny, but I really REALLY like some of the stuff you've got going on here. No suggestions from me right now, but I just wanted to let you know that this sounds awesome and I'm really looking forward to seeing more. Congrats on a great start.

Re: The God Gene (A more "Together" list of features)

I thought I responded to this already, but there's no post from me here. Hmm...oh, I guess that was in the RPGM general thread? In any case, I'm glad you have a game forum! It sounds like it definitely will not be wasted on you. THE GOD GENE sounds completely awesome. I can't wait to see how you pulled this off! I'm not saying it's not possible...I have faith that you can do it, but all I am saying is that it will be interesting to see how you did it considering the fact that the software was not designed for Sci-Fi, as much as for fantasy.

Custom character stats, as well as the 'force-meter' sound cool as hell. Will characters learn skills this way, as well? If so, how many skills is the max a character can have in any 1 playthrough? Sigh...the max of 16 skills is fine, but it would have been nice to have been able to pull from a much larger pool for skill-learning. That way, a character can have say, 50 spells that they can learn, but can only learn 16 in any 1 playthrough, instead of having 16 skills total. Oh well. You can still do a lot as far as customizing skills, but it means that characters start having 3-4 skills total in any 1 playthrough.

But you know...there IS that whole 'forget skill' event code...so characters can exchange skills, and still keep just 4. Hmm...I keep forgetting about that code!

I think I know how you did the force meter thing...at least I know one way to do that. If you don't want to say how you did it, then I understand. I'll refrain from saying the way I was thinking, in case it was the same. LOL!! Now people are going to be like "Yeah...SURE you know a way to do that!" It may not work (that is to say I haven't tried it), but in theory what I'm thinking should work.

In any case, I'm intigued by this game! Keep up the good work!
