    The Death of Hip-Hop

    I found this interesting.

It pretty much sums up why I rarely listen to rap music; my primary reason being because of the rampant use of the n-word and the perpetuation of negative black stereotypes (but this is a whole other topic in itself). I sincerely hope that the music industry takes the criticism to heart and revamps this degraded genre of music, but I sincerely doubt much will change. Until people refuse to consume the crap that these "artists" are putting out, they'll continue to saturate the radio with their trash.

On a side note, Den and I were in the mall last weekend, and we passed in front of an urban clothing store, which was blaring a refrain of "I wanna f--- you, f--- you..." It was astonishing to see how families walked in and out of that store, shopped for clothes, and never once complained about the foul lyrics.
In the beginning the universe was created. This made a lot of people very angry and is widely considered as a bad move.

    Hahaha.

I have a hilarious true story regarding this, which my friend pat has put into comic form. I really did say that (well, it's slightly paraphrased, but almost as funny as the originial statement.) However, I was not really shot.

I appreciate the works of Dr. Dre, Cypress Hill, Snoop Dogg, Too Short, and others. I like the old school ganster rap.

        Not happening.

As long as there are idiots with too much money to spend crap culture will never disappear.

Apparently, you don't listen to stuff like Deltron 3030, Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy, Handsome Boy's Modeling School, Mr. Lif, Aesop Rock, and all the other indie/intelligent hip hop/rap.

Me? Yeah, but I could tell the person I was talking to didn't, either.

I liked Hip-Hop better when it was inspiring all the radio raheem's out there to destroy pizza places.

That's just incredible. You'd think the parents would have pulled their kids out of the store!

I hate rap, but I love Outkast. "Bombs Over Baghdad" is awesome.

I want Hip-Hop to die so badly.... maybe I should start doing the hip to the hop. That would kill it for sure.

Like I said, rarely listen to rap. I didn't mean to lump all rap in with this mainstream crud. True, there are some very talented artists with great lyrics-- I'm just sick of getting bombarded with the ****ty rap at every turn. Some of the groups you mentioned I'm not familiar with (and I'm definitely going to check out), but I have listened to some Aesop Rock, and I liked him.

Andre 3000. But I still have to get their censored CD. I feel so conflicted-- there are some artists that I really like, but some of their lyrics really turn me off to the rest of their works.

You've got to filter through all the **** to get to the good hip hop. The latest album I've been digging is The Craft by Blackalicious. Game Theory by The Roots is pretty solid, too.
